Mike Macdermid 0:13

Hello, and welcome to episode number 41 of the Nintendo Switch UK podcast. Thank you very much for listening to our latest episode. Remember that you can get us on all the social media places like Twitter and Facebook and everywhere else a firefight will probably run through exactly where you can get them in just a minute. For the moment though. I Mike,

Anton Winters 0:32

I know. I'm Anton. And it's so good to be back and we've missing out on Halloween. And you know, we might have some fireworks going off because that's time of the year.

Mike Macdermid 0:44

Yeah, the display where we are is well, it's about no actually so you probably will hear in fact, if we'd been recording an hour ago, you would have definitely been hearing fireworks.

Al Struthers 0:52

So it was quite funny. There were some fireworks going off behind our house two nights ago. And I could see my neighbours will go very, very small children like BB eight Going to go show to the kids are sit on the fireworks and they went down the road and end up having very polite conversation with a group of 50 year olds having parties at your fireworks tell us me usually that's

Mike Macdermid 1:11

why it's this time of year brings now that Halloween is it the way I did go and see Dr sleep for the new movie in the cinema yesterday which is the sequel to The Shining based on the Stephen King novel and and thoroughly enjoyed it also watched about Halloween on on the Movie Channel last night and it was Wayne and Brian hotel so yeah,

Al Struthers 1:29

very nice. Very nice. I was meaning to watch Ghostbusters and haven't done it. Have you

Mike Macdermid 1:34

know I was on telly last night.

Al Struthers 1:35

I know it's always on this time of year I've got on DVD and blu ray somewhere it's just so good. But I haven't had a chance I've been so busy with Halloween events, Halloween itself and trick or treating and parties and just too much for

Mike Macdermid 1:45

Halloween events. I don't think I've ever been invited to one Halloween event in my life form. It's not really a thing here.

Unknown Speaker 1:51

Fotolia is,

Mike Macdermid 1:52

well maybe is where you live, so I know where I live.

Al Struthers 1:55

You need my street my Hill Street with decorators like America. There's decorations.

Mike Macdermid 2:00

The thing isn't it you're trying to eat Yeah, you see you living in Americanized area I live in good old Scotland where Halloween is all about neeps and people sit and lonely in the dark with a neat and one candle

Al Struthers 2:10

well that's what it was a You and I were young but it's not like that anymore dude

Mike Macdermid 2:12

well it's normally the world got older well you you got Americanized as you anyway Tom What about you yet a nice quiet weekend and you

Anton Winters 2:21

yeah literally just been working away I haven't been playing too much switch this week. My joy cones are slowly drifting which has been forcing me to play games that use the toy cons as little as possible. So I played a little bit of build a bridge which I can play completely on the touchscreen, staring pinball because I can rely on the trackers and then a brief the world but I can only walk forward and I can't turn around. It's been

Mike Macdermid 2:45

good. It's not good. Are you going to send them back? Are you going to try and see if any way of getting them fixed?

Anton Winters 2:51

Is I'm still on the fence because it's it's kind of sad just going in there and having to buy another product that is just going to break again. But I guess I guess I'm gonna have to sad paying off at all. Maybe see if I can get a nice limited edition I'm here the hoary toy cons are quite good one with the D pads. None of them are

Mike Macdermid 3:12

annoying though annoying. Before we get started, I've got some bits and pieces from people to chat about. But before we do that, just very quickly, what have you been playing on the switch this week? Allaster

Al Struthers 3:23

I have been quite social. So I've been doing a lot of games like jack box again. Good old favourite. We were playing Astro bears. I've now got a copy of have not opened yet as elder link awakening. Thank you very much to my neighbour for lending that to me. So yeah, I'm pretty much looking forward to playing it. I just need to get through Pokemon once I finished Pokemon. Let's go. I will then start on, link. Yeah, very good. How about you my good man.

Mike Macdermid 3:47

Yeah, well, Anton, what about you use the other podcast?

Anton Winters 3:51

As mentioned just the boulder bit built over the bridge

Mike Macdermid 3:57

could be a concept. Imagine that selling quite well. Actually

Unknown Speaker 4:00

a moment of

Mike Macdermid 4:02

sharp and holds, you know, Surely there's going to be a game somewhere for build a brand like PC or something or Mac. Anyway, so build a bridge. So I'm assuming that the object of that game is to build a bridge

Anton Winters 4:11

yet. Essentially, the premise is you have your palette of resources, you get to build a bridge, I pull up for only two points on the shop at quite cheap sale, if you're interested. And the idea is you just want to have it as cheap as possible. So you end up with bridges that are like literally just falling apart as you're travelling across this you try and save every penny penny from the budget. Say it's a simple game. You could play on mobile app but it's fun to have a game like this where it just count the fuel game you're not having to watch any adverts and it doesn't use the joy cons which I'm happy about.

Mike Macdermid 4:46

Yeah, yeah.

Anton Winters 4:48

yourself, Mike.

Mike Macdermid 4:49

And it was a bit more Steins Gate, which I've got to see the storyline is actually longer than I thought it was going to be. Well, it's not longer than I thought it was going to be. But there are more potential for early endings than I thought. I'm, I'm sort of I'm still in it, I'm still playing the game. It's really it's really a brilliant storey I have to say that the storey itself is fantastic. I don't know what people are talking about when they see, you'll get to a certain point where you won't want to put down the switch because it's such a good storey. So I'm really enjoying that storey. Apart from that I played a bit more of the Mario Sonic at the Olympics devil and there are eight bits there that you can do diving in eight bit mode, which is really good fun. And there's another one as well want to say. I want to say it's a long jump that you can do in a bit more. And the a bit was great. It's got that kind of distorted commentator going Mario next week they'll handle like, like kind of, you know, the old school kind of eight bit kind of voices. Great. So how's that and I really like Mario and Sonic at the Olympics as a as a you know, the first impression I have to say that I think it could be a lot of fun. So this is plenty of content there. But yes, you can do the 1964 version if you want to do a bit of the eight bit Goodness as well. So go and get that. And that's about it for me this week.

Al Struthers 6:03

Awesome. Doesn't look like the demos going anywhere anytime soon, either. There's no time limit on it. I can see. So I can actually go and play

Mike Macdermid 6:09

it. Yeah, yeah, she's gonna check out I think you'll enjoy it. And we had another review this week. So thank you very much to JTLA 90 who said really enjoying today's headlines is enjoyable and informative podcasts. really enjoying your podcast guys. I bought a switch about a month ago and I'm hooked. Almost finished playing through links awakening, which has been a nostalgia trip back to playing as a kid as on the Game Boy colour. Glad to discover this podcast. Great format. I'm looking forward to hitting season two, keep up the good work. So thank you very much indeed.

Al Struthers 6:39

So when I get stuck, I know who to call and ask.

Mike Macdermid 6:41

Yes, we're ready to start. See I almost bought I don't know if you saw the test score doing a deal at the moment at two games for 60 pounds. But in the in the list of games are some really good titles like mario maker, Luigi mansion. Link links awakening, there is Mario Kart. It's a really you know, it's a topic. Your titles, so you're essentially at 430 pounds each. So I went into Tesco in Dundee today, and I picked up Louise's mansion and linked awakening. And they said, I'm really sorry. They're all they're all sold out. So what? But if you can, if you've got a Tesco nearby, it's well worth checking out if you're, if you're looking at one of those games, get the two for 60 to be honest, that they're not the kind of games that drop in value very quickly.

Al Struthers 7:24

bargain. first real bottom line, magical.

Mike Macdermid 7:27

The only ones available Mario Kart and there's another one you can get to go online, or both. So the coolest you gotta go in store, but well worth checking out as well. If you are near at Tesco. We also had one question on Twitter, which cuz you'd posted earlier today, Anton asking what people would like us to discuss for Episode 41. And Bevin says Are there any classic spectrum titles or CDs that you'd like to see and switch for me it would have to be the dizzy games, and probably Renegade and target renegades. So I think I'm Probably the most qualified on this one given that I'm the only one that had a

Al Struthers 8:04

spectrum yeah I'm gonna bow to your knowledge here. I mean

Mike Macdermid 8:06

I wouldn't say bow to my knowledge so much but I agree with dizzy the dizzy series is great the the team behind are actually making a new dizzy game for the new spectrum. So just in case Bev and you don't know about the spectrum next which I think you probably will cuz I'll have mentioned it they're making a brand new spectrum with a lot the same team that were around making the games and the hardware in the 80s and and at the what was a Kickstarter so I put money in for for one it's taken a long time to be fair, but I think it'll be worth it because it's basically what it would have been like if if the bright another spectrum afterwards so it looks really great. And there's a lot the original game makers are making new games for the spectrum so so the guys that made dizzy are making a new dizzy for the spectrum and it's really cool. There's loads of new games happening, which is unbelievable for a game a gaming platform that's 40 odd years old, no so so well worth checking out. But for me, I have I have to say I would like to see some of the weirder titles like Rockstar ate my hamster. Or

Al Struthers 9:05

I wonder who that was written about.

Mike Macdermid 9:09

Or possibly, I would think some like jack the Ripper, the jack the Ripper games were great. They were really good fun. We were a baby and yet to kind of you need a big tooth. And,

Al Struthers 9:19

you know, there's some wonderful creative game ideas.

Mike Macdermid 9:22

Just some really odd titles, I'd like to see some of the really weird ones and then there's a lot of the kind of the kind of Batman ones that use this the isometric view the sort of, you know, for the site there, they were really cool, quite ahead of their time as well. So let's see some of those Football Manager, but it's not it's called the fruit. The one I love was the footballer, there's loads of these titles, the footballer where you are a manager, it's all tax base, but it run really well. Some of the texts adventures, I think some of those could be really good to be revived. You don't want to bring back if you're going to do it. You gotta you gotta do sensibly. I think we've got to either be like, okay, here, here's 100 spectrum games for Fiverr or, or do do it so it's not you know, you're not paying, you know, 699 For arcade archives a game because it's it's you know let's be honest you can get them online now for

Al Struthers 10:06

them okay so here's a question for you going to get this little spectrum

Mike Macdermid 10:09

so if they were a little spectrum it's a full size

Al Struthers 10:11

unit the new spectrum so they can release games a spectrum whatever they want and by the way we're going to learn from the switch which do you buy them

Mike Macdermid 10:18

we don't have to buy them in the spectrum ascend to the other are some games that I bought so I can in my hand here like you'll see I have to show Alistair these now just for proof of concept here

Al Struthers 10:27

Mike is rummaging weirdly beside him

Mike Macdermid 10:29

yeah whatever let's so like so here you can see this. So this is delta star which is for the spectrum next as you can see there Anton dungeon so I love the yet dungeon and then we've got we've drops which is a little colour kind of sweet dreams was the king with sweet the dream sweets he said so this is this is the D drops there. So it looks a bit like Bubble Bubble or something of that. And then bubble gum bros, which is another platformer title, which is coming and then finally, Montana Mike, which is a Kind of adventure Indiana Jones style game. I remember you one day when I turn it to record the podcast, you just got that adventure Missouri, Montana, Mike and you post and you were credibly excited about it. Well, I've had them now for about a year and this is still excited because all the computers now they were all made by actually a guy who's based up north in Scotland, actually who's making games for the spectrum. So they were

Anton Winters 11:21

when I when I heard of a new spectrum coming around that all that bundled together tonnes of games and all that I was like, Okay, okay, now that we've got physical titles involved, I'm like, all in on I love this. It's really

Mike Macdermid 11:31

cool. And it's Sam and there's more to come and they're depending on what you've got. Em which sort of you know, package you've bought that you can actually get online with a new spectrum. And what's cool about being online with the new spectrum is you can then download the games that people are creating so you can actually just go straight on through the browser and download and a lot of them are free. In fact, most of them are free to I'm really disappointed Mike, I've just open your box and inside is an SD card.

Unknown Speaker 11:56

Yeah, which has the game really hoping it was going to be a floppy disc.

Mike Macdermid 12:00

That would have been the spectrum plus three, because this the only one that had a floppy disc was the plus three. The rest were cassettes. So if you wanted to be authentic, it would have been a cassette.

Al Struthers 12:08

Yeah, they've missed a nostalgia trick there.

Mike Macdermid 12:10

But the spectrum will be compatible with cassette players you can you can plug them in and do your old school way and everything. So anyway, that's my answer for you is I want to see some of the random games would I buy on the switch? Probably only the ones that I really was interested in the rest I would keep for the spectrum next to play about on and you know, do it in a kind of nostalgia evening, or something.

Al Struthers 12:30

Very good. Very good. I

Mike Macdermid 12:32

hope that answers your question. Probably not disease. A great show, though. Right. Let's move on then. And get on with the podcast. The podcast today is quite cool. new name for the podcast, actually, the podcast, the podcast proper, and let's start with this week's news. So first off, we have an announcement of a new adventure game. It's a cel shaded adventure game like that already. It's called incredible Monday and it's coming to the switch on the seventh of November. It's got really good using steam 96% I saw this title I'm seeing much of the game but Anton tell us about incredible Monday

Anton Winters 13:07

yeah a few of us can remember that old game called right rim at very much Mr art sale to that it it's a very seems somewhat abstract and what the gameplay actually is but overall graphically account you know a blob of RAM Alleluia when way here it looks gorgeous musics kept stunning confirming to me a lunar self our storey in terms of music. And this one's coming out very shortly so hoping to see some reviews on this one soon, but personally, me just something about it just was like, oh, they're going for something. I don't know what they're going for. But there seems to be some real passion behind it.

Mike Macdermid 13:47

Yeah, it does look good. I mean, we had a look at the trailer as well. I'm not seen it on. I think it might have been in the upcoming game section of the store. Or perhaps I was watching something about coming games, but Anyway so and yeah I think you're right I think with those references you're you're spot on with those and the question for me is will I have enough to stand out against the many other titles that are like this And will it be different enough Alistair

Al Struthers 14:14

yeah I mean it's you're from what I've seen it just looks like a standard platforms who is one more tourist centre platform you got nice big bosses you've got an energy sword and you hacking away at them but at the same time it seems to have quite a calming feel about it. Certainly same track seems very common it doesn't look like it's particularly frantic to know everything looks like it's quite nicely paced. So yeah, it might be quite nice experience and if it's getting good reviews and steam then it's a good start.

Mike Macdermid 14:38

Yeah, I mean, I might check this out just from the point of view that I do actually like the adventure games where it is a bit more calm and not as frantic as others just you know, because I'm not very good at them. So it gives me a bit more time to think about what I'm

Al Struthers 14:48

doing previously. It's a bit freaky Look, the main character does not appear to have a

Mike Macdermid 14:51

face or really

Al Struthers 14:52

new face. All right, no face

Anton Winters 14:56

to face when you have minimalist graphics There you are.

Mike Macdermid 15:00

That's it. And the good thing about cell shape is it will still look all right and another 15 years and will also go on that stage quite well. Well, at least that's the theory. Next up we've got fishing simulator fishing, balance, see the complete edition it's coming to the switch on the 10th of December we're going to get like the Dreamcast thing where we get the little real accessory and time.

Anton Winters 15:20

Sadly not but there is actually a game coming to switch that has like a fish enrols attachment for the joy cons. And the name escapes me at the moment. But yeah, this one literally looks to be the whole shebang of running your bowl and like making sure you have enough stuff it seems to be it's interesting, because when we've had fishing games in the past, it's very much you've got the road and you need to make sure you get and perfectly. This seems to be LHS boring. It's a proper simulate,

Al Struthers 15:52

like roller fishing rather than sitting with your line of sight, isn't it? It does. Yeah, it does look a bit like it might be Euro Truck Simulator. Just recently. Really good.

Mike Macdermid 16:02

I mean it's probably not going to be on my particular radar personally but i mean you know if it's something that that you want to you want to do in a virtual world then then go for it. Why not

Al Struthers 16:12

go These are big button Bob around.

Mike Macdermid 16:14

Yeah, why not? 10th of December? What about you, Anton? You're going to be buying this they want saddling?

Anton Winters 16:19

Sadly, I don't think so. But I never thought I'd be playing five hours at a time of Euro Truck and American Truck Simulator. So you never know. It might have some secrets lying with me fist decks or whatever.

Mike Macdermid 16:32

I'm sure yet line beneath the decks love it. Okay, next up, is it similar similar across I will pronounce this one.

Anton Winters 16:39

Your guests as good as me. I think

Mike Macdermid 16:42

I'm going to go with simulacra. I've seen a couple of these kind of games on mobile. I'm not sure if this one is on mobile already, or it's coming to mobile as well, but certainly coming to switch to the third of December. And it's a fun based horror game on.

Anton Winters 16:57

Yeah, it's interesting. I believe this one started off as a phone only title and now it's finally coming to all of the big free consoles. I just can't I don't know if you've seen gameplay of essentially it's literally like like 16 by nine vertical square rectangle with no of your screen that has a basically a mock iOS on it. I don't know if this is the case of total use with want to play on switch, you know?

Mike Macdermid 17:24

Yeah, I had one This one was a couple on the switch already which are kind of and you have to figure out by looking in the form for the the answer to the you know, what's happened to the character this last and that it's like the last foreign saga. I don't know what the name of it is. A couple of pounds, usually in the sale. And I picked one up and it was already it was only about two hour long game. And I think it was enough for me. I was like, Okay, cool. Yeah, this is kind of interesting. But you're right, Anton that anytime I've played a game like this, it's been a mobile game and I'm not sure if I would spend my time on the switchboard. Although we'll see that the the actual kind of footage that they've got, we know they've got actors in there and it actually looks reasonably well done this one and sound a lot better than the one that I played in terms of the quality and the amount of people you know, the amount of effort they put into it. But I think there's a point isn't it? Is it really a switch title? I don't know.

Al Struthers 18:18

I mean, you and I were talking about this before we started recording we both looked into it and it's kind of interesting, but it does interesting it mean good and it doesn't feel good right things being your switch I can understand somebody's doing on a phone you're sitting flicking around your phone and you're killing a couple of minutes here and there anything yeah, just do this. But the switch is more of a his he has to use an event but it is a bit more event. And it just feels a bit

Mike Macdermid 18:40

of a weird thing to be doing having said that and you said it's coming to the three big consoles I can imagine doing it much more switch than a kind of ps4 because I who could you know play it on a big screen to me seems like a really odd concept. Surely the you know, the best way to play this would be on a phone where it feels really authentic because that would feel that would feel like you're actually you know us if

Al Struthers 19:00

maybe you can turn your switch into portrait mode and its really big for

Mike Macdermid 19:04

take off the icons movie I don't know

Al Struthers 19:06

maybe it's all touchscreen and it was designed for for my God. Yeah.

Mike Macdermid 19:11

Interesting one but I'm not sure if it's going to be a top seller on the switch Anton.

Anton Winters 19:17

Yeah, sadly it so one case even like we've obviously got asphalt asphalt nine and people are complaining about this but whether you love our here I think sadly This is a no the game for I will have for switching to be honest. I think half the reason for them bringing this would be it's just Amscot drones in the App Store. And yeah, if it wasn't for it coming to an actual game console, actual gamers probably would have never even give it a look.

Mike Macdermid 19:45

Yeah, yeah. We've got another one coming out in the Japanese e shop. It's Battle Royale shooter knives out. It's been announced and released already actually on the Japanese he shot. What do we know about knives out

Anton Winters 20:00

Yeah it's a few Samantha it's very similar to pump g at your end a helicopter you're flying over a big massive map drop down you find all your bits and bobs you equip them you try survive. And last month same thing wins the game at

Mike Macdermid 20:16

this I'm gonna be like we've heard that concept before but yes,

Anton Winters 20:20

yes. Sadly this one looks more on the the more of a cologne than anything sadly and they're a very shameless one that I don't think this one is worth a lot of people giving a look and so on mobile as we're hearing a lot of these things so you can always give it a go in their phone and see if it's something you like. And as it's a free to play game on the Japanese e shop you can sell download it and even if you've got a European switch, so doesn't hurt to give a goal but I just temper your expectation as I would say. Yeah, I'm

Mike Macdermid 20:59

also any thoughts Particularly No,

Al Struthers 21:01

let's not waste any more breath on it. Yeah, Frank?

Mike Macdermid 21:03

Well, what I was gonna say just very briefly was that, you know, obviously, we talked about how you can go you can actually use any sharp Japanese or American or whatever. And the switches region free in that sense of there's a game on the American store right now, which is one pens, no

Al Struthers 21:20

one pencil one cent

Mike Macdermid 21:21

no equivalent of one. pence. So what No, I can't make one sense, whatever. It's not very much money, right?

Al Struthers 21:29

numbers in math, Mike numbers and math. I don't do a penny.

Mike Macdermid 21:32

Right. I sent whatever is not much. But my question was, I saw I've seen a lot of people talking to this. Do you think there should be a minimum price that developers can put their game on? Is there a detrimental effect to doing that because obviously the reason they do it is to then get the attention bump up on the charts and then they put off and then you know, which I get, which I think is quite clever marketing personally, but is there a problem with doing that is that then taken away from the quality

Al Struthers 22:00

I have a funny feeling it might be to do with the way the commercial rights are running the background because there's no longer free to play game, which is probably dealt with in a different way. Yeah, yeah probably why they do it so they don't they basically want to give away but they don't want to be tied into whatever the contractual terms are.

Mike Macdermid 22:16

Yes, that's probably why so yeah, so that Yeah,

Al Struthers 22:18

so that would be a minimum. Um, I don't feel strongly about it. To be honest. I think you won't charge a penny charge a penny. Yeah, I mean it from Oculus and actually the processing fee of from Nintendo to processing that sale. It's gonna cost them more. Yeah, yeah. by charging a penny. Linda, do free to play. What about you, Anton?

Anton Winters 22:34

Yeah, I just for me, it's, it's interesting where so hard to visualise. I feel like it should be just as least as cheap. It can should not be any cheaper than something you could buy for short, which it's like, it's hard to find much under fair PV states. Yeah, yeah. I think anything below there, it just becomes almost like fairy dust. It's hard to visualise even as a sailor putting out in the world like that. Well as it almost seems set the set of and hold Jeepers

Mike Macdermid 23:04

well i mean if you find the titles preventative strike which isn't terribly reviewed, but as one pants is what they're seeing in the US store now I'm not sure if that means that to censor what I'm not really sure but it works at one point. There's also mad age and this guy which is actually reasonably well reviewed that's three pants on the store and saboteur to which is I'm assuming that the sequel to saboteur the spectrum game is six pence. So there are obvious examples of developers doing this to basically give away their game. So those ones I don't get.

Al Struthers 23:38

I understand one p because it gets you into free to play. Yep.

Mike Macdermid 23:41

But isn't it just an arbitrary amount that they've gone? That sounds kind of fun. Six p no one's gonna care about six pants.

Al Struthers 23:47

I don't understand. No,

Mike Macdermid 23:48

I don't understand. Or maybe it cost them four pounds per game to process it and they've gone we'll go for six.

Al Struthers 23:53

Well, maybe, you know,

Mike Macdermid 23:55

maybe Yeah. Anyway, it's it was just a thought. And yeah, I don't think You are too worried about it. But if you do remember that you can go into other shops, of course, which I haven't done. Have you? Have you tried to tell us? You know how to do it? No, I don't know. It's hard to do. But I'm talking Have you done it? Yeah, of course you did. Yeah, you did. Yes.

Anton Winters 24:17

It's fairly simple. It say, basically, you make an extra count on your console. I've just named it like Anton Japan or something. Yeah. And you call sell you when you set up, you set up as your assets and you set your region to Japan, all that you can set your language separately. And then there you go. Then let's say you go in there, egg like sign up for Nintendo account as if you're doing it normally, but you lived in Japan. And there you go. That's fair enough. There's no hoops you need go for. I believe it's a little bit complicated if you want to start buying stuff on there, and here's the best way is to just go online and buy a Japanese eSports Sure, okay. And yeah, that was you're buying stuff. But for actually just making the account, it's as simple as just changing your region when you're setting the Ko.

Mike Macdermid 25:08

And then can you hear? Can you play if you're logged into your your normal account? Can you play those Japanese titles? Or do you have to log into Japan account to play them

Anton Winters 25:16

that you can use your normal Council for instance, you could even go into something where you download an exclusive game that requires Nintendo Switch online, then play that with your UK account online. So then you could download the the family calm entertainment system, get the one or two exclusive games and play it on your main account, which is quite handy.

Mike Macdermid 25:38

Oh, that's good. That's good. That was the question I had

Al Struthers 25:41

was cool. Very cool.

Mike Macdermid 25:42

Well, that's good to know. So we do see an exclusive from another store elsewhere, then we'll definitely bring up and talk about it because now that we know that you can play on your own account because that was my biggest thing was half you have to go and login every time to your other account and you could not do your normal stuff in there. That would be a pain but No, thank you. Anton moving on then we have a game which we think looks kind of interesting. It's called House of golf. It's from atomic calm. And it's a mini golf game and it comes out in the ether November also, you've been having a look at this. I've been

Al Struthers 26:13

Have a look, I kind of like this. It sort of looks like a cross between mini golf and Micro Machines. It's basically playing mini golf and set up this in your house. It's kind of cute. It's just It's adorable.

Mike Macdermid 26:24

Yeah. I don't know how it plays. I don't know what the physics are like. And that's probably quite important for a game like mini golf. But yeah, I think it's got potential. I don't know. I've got it's good to go one or two ways. It's either gonna be absolutely terrible. And I'll hate it. Like there was a racing game. Was it tabletop racing? I think it was bad. Yeah, I didn't really enjoy tabletop racing at all. But I love the concept and I liked the look of it. But soon as I played, I was like, No, and I'll worry that this will be with this but it does look kind of slick. Anton, what do you think?

Anton Winters 26:55

Yeah, I hold my judgement, but I'm kept looking at it. sold in graphically as as you mentioned, I'm kind of hoping and I'm given the benefit the doubt here where I don't feel like there's too much you can screw up a golf game say that it's literally like you don't have to do handling physics it's literally you just need to figure a whole graphic it works yeah hopefully they don't screw it up and I feel like a good price maybe eight

Al Struthers 27:24

pounds Yeah, I was gonna say does not look like an expensive title.

Anton Winters 27:27

No,

Mike Macdermid 27:28

that's the key if they start trying to sell this at 20 quid then nobody's gonna buy it but I think it's under a tenner then they've got a chance I think because it does. It does the kind of kind of like watching it right now we're both kind of like almost drawn to it, which is a good thing

Al Struthers 27:42

honestly. It's of course cage court one to six player apparently

Mike Macdermid 27:45

which is key for game of this that that's how you're going to sell it. It's like the it's like the Astro beers effect. You know, you wouldn't you know, Astro beers and one player you probably wouldn't bother but play caught up and suddenly you've got game you know, so look out for that one. It comes out in the eighth of November there's a trailer Oh no, no, this is one that I think Anton is going to be able to tell us more about just because of his love of all things Sonic. One of the key teams behind Sonic media, Sonic Mania head cannon have announced vertebrate Kerr which is a 16 bit Mega Drive style platform interested and they're asking for 212,502 pounds and the switch goal is 255,026 so the original platformer and that must be like a stretch goal or something is it Yeah,

Anton Winters 28:29

they're currently aiming for a PC release but say if they get a little bit more sweat from would be come along which you know, I personally feel like looking at hope, hope hope or Sonic Mania as on switch that that would be the target but nonetheless, at same cap company is called very similar Mega Drive borderline ferry to bet siren sale graphic style. It's kind of a momentum based platformer. Kevin the vein if you've ever played knuckles kill tix on the Megatron on the Take a ferry to x yeah Calif where you're like spreading yourself forward as you've got essentially the the mystical long vertebrae thing that you can almost like a hook hitting the ground pull yourself along and catapult yourself across the label and so account very much plot like physics physics based platform or in the camp way that Sonic is there seemingly so far in their Kickstarter I think they're they're not over 10,000 as of the last time I checked our Kickstarter and they're asking for 200 thousands and personally me i don't know i i don't think they're going to make it they still got a month left on it. A lot of money.

Mike Macdermid 29:39

It's a lot of money to ask for but I guess they've got you know they've got the reasons for asking for that amount but what I would say in there in if you are thinking of it back in this is that Sonic Mania, the team that did that did such a fantastic job. And having watched the trailer on this It feels it feels like a Sonic game Thunder Definitely you know just the way the movement is not a good thing because my instinct is that I've already got too many 16 bit Mega Drive style platforms but actually when you combine the idea of having something that is going to fit the physics are going to be as good as they will be I think it could be a really good title but it's a lot of money to ask for.

Al Struthers 30:18

It is a lot of money I mean, if you're interested you can go to the Kickstarter and there's a she got access to a PC or a Mac wherever there is such a downloadable demo to go and you can go play it see how it feels and if you like it, you can always go and back it.

Anton Winters 30:29

Yes, I think I think personally I'm going to get that week or this week I'll report back on there next week podcast but yeah, a lot a lot of money and especially considering looking at how much they were asking for tie ties meaning Tiger a couple months back that was just over 100 grand for a full 3d platformer Yeah, but I hope the base because it does look assault game.

Mike Macdermid 30:51

Yeah, absolutely. Okay, next up, we've got an announcement of Overwatch to from Blizzard which will have a new hero storey mode as well also have a foot four player Co Op, which sounds fantastic is going to have up the graphics new hot new refinements. But you can go back to the old graphics. What does this mean for us though Anton what's what's the storey behind this?

Anton Winters 31:13

This is looks to be a completely new way of doing multiplayer. So I think considering the success of Overwatch, they're not wanting to split the players apart or not want to kill Overwatch one buying gold for everybody who's bought

Mike Macdermid 31:26

it just came a month ago.

Anton Winters 31:29

And so it's so compatible with Overwatch. The original the multiplayer is the same. But similar to you buying a brand new game in a franchise it's going to have new graphics, new refinements the hots been redone. So that's that but you can switch back to the old graphics and play it as if it looked like Overwatch one because I know some people are not fan of some of the new designs. But the main thing here as the new storey mode, which Calif as count player versus environment, you're going to be able to Do four player Co Op, and it's going to be lore heavy. But it's fascinating to see the new new take on multiplayer. So doesn't matter what version of the game you have, you'll be able to play Overwatch. But you would have to buy Overwatch to to get the better graphics improvements, etc.

Mike Macdermid 32:19

Right? So it's over. So watch two is going to be a completely new game. But and it will be it will be coming to the switch as well.

Anton Winters 32:30

Indeed, yes, it will become so it's going to be the same platforms,

Mike Macdermid 32:34

right? So but if you have Overwatch one, you can still play with the people playing Overwatch to

Anton Winters 32:43

Yes, you can create everything except the storey mode,

Mike Macdermid 32:47

except the storey what the storey would say it's kind of fun though I'm and I must admit

Anton Winters 32:50

that. I'm

Mike Macdermid 32:52

definitely looking for a new Co Op experience or something that I can play where I'm online and I can say to all I'm going online tonight for an hour Do you want to play such and such a game Anton I'm going on. And I don't feel like at the moment, right this moment time. It's been a long time since I've had that regularly. And I would like to find something that I can go on and play online with some friends. The storey mode kind of appeals to me in the sense that, you know, one of the things I used to love about a lot of the kind of games like Time Splitters, our Gears of War, was that you could be in a team of four, and it was all your friends and you went on, you did your thing. And you know, and I guess the storey element of this is like that, you could do that. But with a storey behind it.

Anton Winters 33:36

Yeah, I'm personally similar, similar to yourself, where I enjoy first person shooters, but I'm not the greatest at the same. I think it would be nice to have a game where I'm not getting killed from like 50 metres away by somebody that's been playing for 50 hours that they

Mike Macdermid 33:53

usually get killed by melon team because I'm actually making it worse for them so they just kill me off early on.

Anton Winters 34:00

Similar to this I looking at the gameplay unlike a lot of shooters were like how you playing the single player and the multiplayer is completely different There seems to be a level of power here so who knows that I'm curious in it in a sense of one being able to actually play it and to have my actually make me competent enough to be able to play the main game. Yeah,

Al Struthers 34:19

yeah. Right. So is that as well as improving and playing? What about you Alice there What's your thoughts? Exactly? We're on the same page. I mean, I'm I've been knows I'm terrible multiplayer. first person shooters, but I enjoy them. I think they are good fun. I had great fun as a kid playing GoldenEye and playing 10 splitters, but it was just with a storey mode. When it came to all there was our first part,

Unknown Speaker 34:37

right? Yeah.

Al Struthers 34:38

Yeah, when it when it came to the multiplayer, player versus player. I just, I'm usually rubbish. Yeah. So this this is a far more compelling proposition.

Mike Macdermid 34:46

Yeah. And I think coming to switch is great. So I am I'm definitely intrigued by this. And, you know, I think it's something the storey missions thing for me is the thing you know, it's like getting on there with friends and playing something. That's really appealing? Do we have a date for Overwatch to then? No, not yet but probably a good thing.

Anton Winters 35:06

I was just waiting 20 release so we just need to find a fourth person and we are all that said well i'm sure James RR Emily might be be keen to to play so I'm sure we'll find that fourth fourth player. Do you know if it's likely be released cross platform at the same time?

Mike Macdermid 35:24

We're going to be waiting to come on to something about that in just a moment. But yeah, I don't know. I would. I have a horrible feeling it's not going to agree with you. So anyway, what do you think Anton?

Anton Winters 35:35

I'm optimistic. I'm thinking considering it's so close to Overwatch one, whereas you can literally just play as if it was the same game. I'm hoping that it's literally just a bolt on almost like a DLC rather than them releasing a whole new game, but we've been wrong in the past.

Mike Macdermid 35:56

Well, exactly, exactly. I mean, I'm hoping that's all reflected in the way they do it, but it Watch this space but certainly that might be something in fact something I think we should discuss we definitely need to find something we can all play together online and even it was once a week we play for an hour Hello that was

Al Struthers 36:10

that was a very loud one it was even a flash Your face looks

Mike Macdermid 36:14

really cool so yeah so we'll watch out for that Overwatch to yet that's been announced this week. Now this next game is out now on every platform except switch and I tell you what it's getting really good reviews of what a few trailers of the outer worlds and I really excited to play this on the switch. Basically, they're kind of saying it's a bit of a combination between Mass Effect and you to fall out and you did something kind of in the middle of the two, maybe not as as intense as either in terms of you know, they were obviously classic titles and maybe this isn't quite there, but it's very, very good and is getting sold eights and nines have even seen as well. The outer worlds not on switch yet though but it is on every other platform. Anyone else excited for that? Oh,

Anton Winters 37:02

jumping the gun here but absolutely it's looking really good. And the thing has been really remarkable this as what I've been hearing at from avid follow fans is that it's putting the face to shame. Right from the sounds of it close you know home when we pick up a new sky room or fall out and half broken and falling apart and it doesn't really work very nice to use the guns and we're like, oh, that's the price we paid to have a big massive open world game with those choices. Yeah, it looks like Obsidian Entertainment smash to kill off this game with all of the big scale choices, moral choices, without making nearly as many compromises as previous competitors. And

Mike Macdermid 37:45

without spoiling anything apartment in the game, you can pretty much decide the fate excuse me of any character bar. I think there's one that you can't I don't know who that is because obviously I haven't spoil anything for myself either. And that's not a spoiler. That's just the way the game plays. You can use the whole point of the game Is that you can decide if someone is worthy of you know, it's it's there's moral choices throughout it which I think is great and I'm gonna have a look at the trailer if I go and have a look at a couple of in depth reviews from other platforms like ps4 and things if we get anything close to that I think this could be another switcher or another skydio on switch you know it could be that level

Al Struthers 38:19

I mean certainly Pete all of our interests and it's not often games actually speak to all three of us Normally I'm the one who addressed it yeah actually I'm interested in this one too.

Mike Macdermid 38:27

Yeah and Mass Effect is one game that I vote you know, you know, I love Mass Effect. I would love it to be on the switch because I would go back into the universe but this might just be what what I'm looking for in the switch so yeah, I think we could all we could all jump on this one I think quite early on very excited about the outer worlds but just maybe after Christmas is fine. plenty other things to play right now. enchanted portals that's the kind of knockoff of cup head isn't it? Sorry. We see an octopus is I'm sorry. The Kickstarter is on pause because they're looking for publisher slash trying to fight off legal battles. And I don't. I'm not saying that that's true. I just think that they are actually looking for a publisher, but they're probably also trying to find someone that can deal with all that I imagine no publisher going to touch it for

Al Struthers 39:11

very obvious reasons.

Mike Macdermid 39:12

I think. I think there's interest in it. From what I've heard there's a lot of interest because it does look amazing. But I wonder if what they need know is someone that was maybe involved with I've not involved with cup had this big enough that can kind of almost say, look, you Okay, we know it's a little bit similar, just in case there is any because surely there's going to be a complaint coming their way?

Anton Winters 39:34

Yes. It's weird because we've never seen like a lawsuit with an of the NBC and yet, I don't think should you, Mr. 12. I believe they're called would be the cap company do that. But I imagine this game wouldn't trickle too much to find an investor. I think, looking at the success of compared there would be a lot of even if there were millions. Formed in the game field, a plenty of companies that would be willing to take the gamble and think it's a safe investment and looking at the success of cockpit. That same shame if this game came out to be the best thing ever and for the entire existence of it, we're all like to cut back on.

Mike Macdermid 40:16

Yeah, I mean, I think it looks good. I think the game looks great. And I'm not knocking the game but I in there's no doubt about if that was

Al Struthers 40:23

was an easy way to render Christmas to do MDHR to come along and be the publisher of a game.

Mike Macdermid 40:28

Yeah, well, I was thinking it was so complex because maybe that's where this has all come from is that maybe there is some tie in there where somebody that's involved that was my thoughts was someone involved with cup head that we solve that issue, but hey, look, watch this space. It does look good. But no Kickstarter at the moment, they're trying to find a publisher. We're going to move through the next few quite quickly because we've still got some rumours and the quiz to get through as well. So next up, at no support for cloud saves for Pokemon sword and shield and this has been talks about for so my response to that is what what what what what what I don't really understand that Point and not so this means that you can't have a Cloud Save Is this what this yeah

Al Struthers 41:04

at the moment you're saying there's no cloud safe

Mike Macdermid 41:06

I mean this ridiculous I know it's all for handheld I know it's all about you know you take it with you on the go but that there are people out there that will have the light for playing this game but then might have when the Pro comes along, which will do at some point probably next year will want to have it

Al Struthers 41:24

and back on there if you switch breaks or gets nicked smaller Yeah.

Unknown Speaker 41:29

Oh, well, they're doing there

Mike Macdermid 41:32

any reason, Anton? Oh, no,

Anton Winters 41:34

it's a mystery to me too. I feel like there I would pursue it something to maybe keep the Academy of like make sure people don't find exploits to to clone Pokemon or stuff like that. But it's a real shame because that it seems like every big game where you would put in hundreds of hours into whether it be animal cross saying it be this. There. Those are the game shoot one cloud safe For the most because those are your most valuable saves. I could replay like a 10 hour game, I can redo that and get the storey back again. But losing progress for big tails like this this is where where you want your saves and that's shame that we haven't got this system for every game. Yeah, it's in little town hero they can do in there.

Unknown Speaker 42:18

Yeah, first up game me Yeah,

Mike Macdermid 42:21

that's bizarre. That's really bizarre that it's in there and not Pokemon sword and shield. But anyway, frustration. And next up steam world quest handle gimmick is getting a super rare games. You can pre order that from the seventh of November. Be quick if you're going to preorder that as a physical superior. These, this team have talked about a few times that make physical copies of games that don't have physical releases. There's a limited run for Stranger Things three actually, which comes with lots of lovely extras. It's got the soundtrack and all sorts it looks really good. But I think is probably the pre orders probably sold out because it was loud the other day and I I looked at it and thought I really want that. And I think it's maybe cheaper on the switch. Actually, believe it or not. Yeah, I'm not sure About don't quote me on that but good jacket limited run as well as super rare if that's one that piques your interest next up blood stained ritual of the night has a graphical and performance update that's good news because there weren't complaints on that it wasn't running the way that they wanted it to and people were pretty upset about it.

Anton Winters 43:19

Yeah I feel sorry for the programmers that close essentially when the game came along everybody was like get make the graphics better and give a double the frame rate and some holy figured out how to do it and we'll good long while but I'm wondering what the prices are what the prices are like when this game posts at dead gay pan pray hard on switch but from the looks of it seemingly not entirely flex the graphics. The graphics are subjective. It's also not on par with the other consoles, but frame rate looks to be doing better now.

Mike Macdermid 43:48

Well, it's supposed to be a good game. I think that's the thing is if you like Castlevania, then I think you're going to like this game. But you obviously with the switch. We don't want to always have the inferior version and I think this is the kind of game that we should really had the inferior version. I can understand that with Witcher and things like that I can that's that's fine. To an extent, but I don't think this needed. You know, I don't see why this wasn't possible beforehand. But hey, fair play to the developers for coming out and making those changes and listening to what people want because really, you can't really complain if they do that, I guess.

Al Struthers 44:21

Yeah, yeah, I completely agree. And just record a photo Nice job as an American 140 dollars. It's probably 40 quid here. Okay.

Mike Macdermid 44:30

That is a lot of money. Diablo four is not coming to the switch, which is kind of disappointing because you know, if you are a fan of that type of game, that kind of gauntlet style thing then was that the one we're talking about the Apple is that one?

Unknown Speaker 44:46

Yeah, yeah.

Mike Macdermid 44:47

Yeah. So it's a shame that we're not getting the new one because I feel again like that could find a home but maybe it's to do with sales.

Anton Winters 44:57

Yeah, it's a real shame, especially considering The work Blizzard has done on the Overwatch site and but let's let's just hope that they have the game to put it behind that obviously I think a lot of people look at this as that kind of top down game like of course it could run on anything but

Mike Macdermid 45:16

it's probably not to do that because the last Diablo is on the switch isn't it three indeed yeah so you know so so I wonder if this is more of a reaction to the sales of Diablo three and they've gone you know what it's not worth their time right now because Diablo three didn't sell that well so we don't envisage for selling and that was funnily enough I'm actually getting this my brother my my brothers for years we said we'll play through Diablo three so he's getting he's going to get a copy and we're going to come to a local Co Op of Diablo three on the switch which will be good fun so but not for

Al Struthers 45:49

evidently not.

Mike Macdermid 45:51

Right I tell you what we're going to do the next few items we have our own from this financial meeting the Nintendo financial meetings are going to go I'm going to read through them I'm gonna I'm gonna let our kind of run this up in a kind of minute and give us a bit of a detail on what each one is and we'll have a quick chat about it and then we'll move on so do you want to you want to lead the lead away with it all means

Unknown Speaker 46:11

Yeah. Without I like to business the stuff I

Unknown Speaker 46:14

don't know why.

Al Struthers 46:16

So yeah, Nintendo had their annual shareholder meeting, and they were big a few headlines. So there were some interesting numbers in here. Interestingly, Mario Kart Wii has sold an extra 40,000 units recently in the last year. Wow, weird. I can only presume people went off and played the Mario Kart on the full No, no, that's fun. I still gotta we you kick it over a weekend. I know them by that. Yeah. That was nice. And the interestingly said that the switch late sales have not been taken away from switch sales are either adding to them, so I'm guessing that means it has not seen a slowdown in sales normal console boost with a little late.

Mike Macdermid 46:50

I had a question from a mom of two young children saying what do I do? I've got two kids they want to play they both want to play the switch. They do play caught up together which was the reason that I said to shy away from the light in this occasion but had it been one child I was going to suggest the light because you know that would have made probably more sense but yes it's I said there's an example of it not taking away from because they do slightly different things

Al Struthers 47:17

same device as you another point that I mentioned was that half of switch light users are buying as a second console and they already own the switch Really? And you know, you can actually hook up the switch light to the screen although it's a bit fluffy and probably not worthwhile. Can you didn't know it? Yes.

Mike Macdermid 47:33

I forget how but but can you help me out here Anton?

Anton Winters 47:37

Thank you. You've seen the same video that I have where somebody literally points a camera at their sweat slight them plugged in to the TV.

Mike Macdermid 47:45

Yeah, yeah, yeah, but it was maybe I've just been duped. I don't know. But anyway, that was the reason I went for the the because I think there is another way to do it though. I think there's a way with a cable.

Al Struthers 47:56

I'll take you where I thought it was no,

Unknown Speaker 47:58

it was no single IP. Hang on, I'll look

Al Struthers 48:00

up. All right. Okay, so the next one is forwarding to interesting to me. And that was actual switch unit sales. Right? So we quite often try to compare how well the switch is doing to PlayStation four and the Xbox One. And I've now got up to date PlayStation and Xbox fingers. The most recent I can find was March. So as of March, xbox one knows I started PlayStation, PlayStation and sold 94.7 million units, which is a lot 94.7 million. Yes. Which isn't going anywhere close to that. That's right. Xbox One in March, it's all 42.2 million units. That's well, less than half of the switch. This will be the number. The switch was, you know, for far less time than the Xbox One has sold 41.67 million units. That's pretty much the same as Xbox One, and it's been around for half the length of time. I mean, go switch. That is awesome. I'm so happy with that number. Now obviously the Xbox it caught up a little bit because that's what six months out of date that number, but it's not going to cut that much

Anton Winters 49:00

yet so it's a miracle seeing those numbers and yet we still have developers not wanting to develop for switch or similarly we have retailers where you can't find a single switch game but you'll think playing the other two, it's there.

Al Struthers 49:14

But you need to do better with a marketing I think living there's whoever in there, Nintendo seals where we need to be more bullish. We're going to sell to stores frankly,

Mike Macdermid 49:22

just an update Nintendo Switch like 100% you can't In fact, so much so that one youtuber actually took apart the insights to sort of see whether it even had the components to allow you to do it and apparently it doesn't even have the components

Al Struthers 49:36

Yeah, I didn't think it did. I mean, doing them in colour displaced flattering.

Mike Macdermid 49:39

Yeah, I don't know maybe maybe someone links that pic that video that you've been

Unknown Speaker 49:44

had brother.

Mike Macdermid 49:44

Yeah, well, I mean, it makes no difference to me. Yeah, comment? Yeah, sure. I'm got like,

Al Struthers 49:52

right. Well, the last the last number I read from the fancy meeting was to do with Mario Kart Tour, which otherwise NV and I'm still playing Playing my other half is Yeah, yeah, I'm sure you try that and you're done.

Anton Winters 50:05

I still haven't tried that. I've been abstaining from the Free to Play model I have not yet.

Al Struthers 50:12

I mean, I'm still playing free. I've not paid a penny for this game button and it's doing quite well is kind of what I took away from this. So apparently it's 123.9 million downloads. Quite a lot of downloads make a lot a lot of Anton Anton as well downloads. Yes, yeah. Yeah, it's by far the most successful mobile game Nintendo's ever launched the Super Mario Run I think at 21.8 million

Mike Macdermid 50:39

Yeah, it's middle a lot of a lot

Al Struthers 50:40

of demos I saw me quite low cash so far. It's I think they said it made 37.4 million so that's a lot of people actually paying for a free to

Mike Macdermid 50:48

play. Yeah, I'm assuming that song because you're young Peter Penny, so you've not contributed to that. So I'm trying to think that you know, there's no other way they wouldn't be paid. No. There's nothing that so yeah. So must just be from people. paying a strong little bits here this crazy it is crazy crazy

Al Struthers 51:04

I think I can have I don't don't want it to work I don't like free to play models I don't want I just want to pay for a game that I wouldn't

Mike Macdermid 51:11

I wouldn't have minded that figure if when I paid 20 quits play the game Gentlemen, I would have been fine as well i'm not i'm just not. I don't like it. I don't like it. Right?

Anton Winters 51:22

Yeah, well I find a remarkable about these numbers I say. I believe Fire Emblem was saying around like the Count 15 to 20 million in its first month. But compared to my Super Mario Mario Kart tour IK made a million dollars in its first month and considered that's our most profitable game. It makes me wonder how much more aggressively monetize fire emblems on the on mobile must be compared to Mario Kart. Yes. Yeah. It's It's remarkable. And there we see is kept covered as close friend and handle.

Mike Macdermid 51:57

Yeah. And close. I mean, it's a lot of money. It has a lot of money they've made from, you know, from add ons and from in app purchases and things. So concerning from that point of view, great that there's so many people playing it and it is you know, it's it's a great mobile game. There's no doubt there's no getting away from it is actually very well done. I think that's probably why people are actually paying for the add ons and things so

Al Struthers 52:20

far. Yeah, I just went to Google tomatoes, curiosity while we're talking. I want to see what the highest or what is the fastest growing No, that's wrong word. The game that had the most downloads at launch. That's what I want to do for Yeah, so back in October, the single biggest mobile game launch ever was called GT and it had 100 million downloads. Wow, that means Mario Kart tour is the single fastest downloading game ever on mobile. Yeah, yeah. I mean, well done Nintendo, but I just don't like more. Yeah.

Mike Macdermid 52:49

grudgingly well done at retro studios have hired 343 Industries character, modeller, what

Anton Winters 52:58

they've hired

Mike Macdermid 53:00

For three industries,

Anton Winters 53:01

yes.

Mike Macdermid 53:03

I was thinking what they've, they've had 343 character modellers. What does that even mean? As a new leader, so so they've basically hired someone from three for three to be their new lead artists for Metroid Prime for that's what we're saying.

Anton Winters 53:15

Indeed. So I, that set the gentleman of Halo fame, so he has a lot of experience making random people in suits. I wonder I when I saw this, I was like, hmm, is this the best career move? But who knows?

Mike Macdermid 53:31

Ah, well, I mean, it's certainly quite different take on it on the have a great healer memories. But I mean, you know, the one where they want to translate for this necessarily, but

Al Struthers 53:41

when there's established IP there, there's not it, most of it probably won't be created from scratch. I mean, so Sammis and the Metroid world has been around for quite a long time. So working within constraints. be really cool. See what comes out of it?

Mike Macdermid 53:53

Yeah, I think that's I think it's quite cool to bring in new ideas and he'll that person will bring in different ideas for sure. Given where they've come from So yeah, that's kind of cool. All right, let's move on very, very briefly to this week's was gonna say rumours, but we'll call it this week's rumour.

Anton Winters 54:10

So

Mike Macdermid 54:11

the rumour this week is that Nintendo we're playing well there's a couple of bits to this so Nintendo, we're going to be planning more remakes for the 3ds I remember they did all the the remake series as well on the on the 3ds. And they've actually talked about how they're gonna be doing another Fire Emblem title. But due to the slow sales of Mario and Luigi Bowsers inside storey and Bowser Junior's journey all further 3ds production was scrapped. Very briefly, James has been playing fire emblem on the switch and absolutely loving it. And he said he's on his third play through actually Wow, because you can go with different houses and things. So he's going for different routes. But yeah, he's really, really enjoyed so we need to

Al Struthers 54:49

get him home to do his little review. Because yes, we were basically upset that we weren't really talking about Yeah, so

Mike Macdermid 54:54

we'll get we'll get James on many days and get him to give us our thoughts because he's, he's going to lend it to me as well because he's got me kind of interesting. And anyway,

Al Struthers 55:01

I have to say Ruby on Bowsers Maria which is Bowsers inside storey it sounds like a like a Mario Surgeon Simulator

Mike Macdermid 55:07

does a bit yeah, I mean the inside storey of Bowsers intestines. Yeah, I

Al Struthers 55:12

mean that sounds creepy and weird. No one at Ansel,

Anton Winters 55:14

but the thing you need to see the Japanese adverts for the game there allegedly that's the storey Bowsers feeling LE goes to the doctor and Mario Luigi our insight Bowser. It's terrifying and kind of hilarious.

Mike Macdermid 55:25

Oh, wow, you were actually right

Unknown Speaker 55:30

now, I

Unknown Speaker 55:31

wasn't expecting that work in a gaming podcast

Mike Macdermid 55:33

with that kind of guessing. Well done well. Yeah, I mean, the thing is there's some great 3ds titles and and you know, I love the 3ds and I love some of these. You know, I think that it's a solid solid handheld platform. But I think the problem is now that the switch has just instantly made it feel like the last generation and I know that it is but you know, you see with some changes and consoles yet you still go back to the old one. But because the switch has had handheld because the switch does handheld so well, for me, I'm not really that surprised. I think that there, it's great. And I absolutely suggest if you've not got a 3ds and you know, there's titles in there you want to play, it's a great platform to get. But the switch is kind of just, it's just a whole next as a whole new level. Well, I mean,

Al Struthers 56:22

in that financial meeting, they did say over the last 12 months, they've sold 370,000 I think it was 3ds. So they're still selling, but we compare it to 70,000. With the millions of switches are being sold, you can see why they're kind of thinking this is

Mike Macdermid 56:35

move on, if you're only selling 370,000 3ds is then you know potential a lot of the people that before have already moved on to switch so you're basing or light or lights you're basing on that. So if you're making a game and maybe you based on 10% of those people buying your game 30,000 it starts to get lower numbers, it's probably not worthwhile.

Anton Winters 56:54

Yes, it's interesting where there was a phase there where it seemed like Nintendo was confident but uncertain of how successful the switches switch was going to be. And I think the fact that it's kind of captured count both that the home and handheld market hasn't just captured the handheld market, which some beard, it's really squeezed out the 3ds much quicker than $10. spiking. And yeah, so say, Bowser and Luigi and Luigi sponsors and say sorry, that would have been when they plan to make that game that would have been based on very early speculation of where they felt that the 3ds would have been and clearly at the switches have surpassed expectations, which is good because it reminds me,

Mike Macdermid 57:40

yeah, it reminds sorry, Anton, it reminds me very much of Xbox to Xbox 360, but it reminds me of that cycle where the 360 just too cold so quickly, and everybody suddenly went on all the 360 s it's a different world. And it feels a bit like that with the switch from the 3ds. It's that kind of Quick, you know, that didn't take long for the 360 to become, you know, the console that everybody was playing and I think that this is a bit like that with the switch.

Anton Winters 58:10

Yeah, I think the fact that there wasn't a jump from the eighth Gen handheld to a next gen handheld It was a jump from a HJN handheld to, like next gen home console basically, yet made the contrast so much Starker comparing the two where it just killed the 3ds so much quicker.

Mike Macdermid 58:32

Yeah, no, I agree. So sad for the 3ds. But you know what will happen in 10 years time we'll get all the limited run and super rare games new 3ds versions of games, no doubt. So it will come back and we will all be happy you particularly because you can buy physical copies and then I'll go back and buy it and collect and go I love this console. It's the best ever apart from the switch. So that was a rumour. Let's move on to this week's quiz.

Anton Winters 59:00

If you are not familiar of how the quiz works, I'm sure you'll pick up very quickly. This week. We have a little bit of post Halloween goodness because I was not on last week. Are you ready for your?

Al Struthers 59:13

Yeah, yes.

Anton Winters 59:16

Bring it on more. Hahaha. This first title is a survival horror game for the original Nintendo Entertainment System.

Mike Macdermid 59:28

survival horror game. Is it the original ninja which which systems a

Unknown Speaker 59:33

Nintendo Entertainment System? Okay, okay. survival horror.

Al Struthers 59:38

I don't think I had any. I was probably too young. scared. I'm I would still be scared.

Mike Macdermid 59:42

But yeah, I don't know.

Anton Winters 59:45

I'm not sure. The game was released in 1989. And it's a pretty typical summer camp camp Crystal Lake.

Mike Macdermid 59:56

Freddy vs. Jason.

Anton Winters 59:58

Close but no cigar. Are ya? Halloween the game? Sadly, no cigar. Okay. This game get not being relate to the modern entry on the modern console has had a spiritual successor as a game on Nintendo Switch recently, and it's based on a popular film franchise.

Al Struthers 1:00:24

I will guess Friday the 13th the game you

Anton Winters 1:00:27

you've got it. I'll

Al Struthers 1:00:30

just go through Halloween movies No Go on.

Anton Winters 1:00:33

Delightful. Alrighty. For your second title. We have a puzzle platformer released and developed by Chloe pleaded and released in 2010

Mike Macdermid 1:00:48

puzzle platformer play did

Unknown Speaker 1:00:52

a

Mike Macdermid 1:00:56

mumble bobble

Anton Winters 1:00:59

sadly Not the case.

Al Struthers 1:01:03

I don't know what to think of a single game that might have a skeleton or a ghost or something in it and I'm drawing a blank here I know past

Anton Winters 1:01:10

this this game had site scroll platforming craft gameplay. Or you traverse through some woods with black and white art sale shrouded in darkness

Unknown Speaker 1:01:25

right inside you've got it make

Al Struthers 1:01:27

Yes Very nice. And let's go Google it now

Mike Macdermid 1:01:31

Yeah, it's a I've only played a little bit of it but it's a brilliantly beautiful beautiful game the artworks amazing in it but and yeah, it's it's one that is well recommended.

Anton Winters 1:01:47

For your final when it or lose it title. I'm going to give you a choice, which is like a game from the fifth generation or sixth generation of consoles.

Mike Macdermid 1:01:57

Okay, fifth is

Anton Winters 1:02:00

Not sure I PlayStation era and then sex is

Mike Macdermid 1:02:05

ok ok ok so one for the Xbox era What do you reckon Lucy go for sex?

Anton Winters 1:02:13

Alrighty, this game is a psychological horror game that failed by Silicon Knights and publish officially by Nintendo. Whoo

Al Struthers 1:02:27

Oh, zombies we zombie zombie you? Yeah

Anton Winters 1:02:33

sadly no cigar no

Mike Macdermid 1:02:35

no that's why I was thinking earlier on as well for the first one anyway no carry on.

Unknown Speaker 1:02:40

Alrighty,

Anton Winters 1:02:42

this game was originally planned for the Nintendo 64 but was switched to the Game Cube. One of the key aspects of the tale is how you have to maintain your sanity within of the game. I'm Resident Evil for Sadly not the game.

Al Struthers 1:03:03

I was gonna be guest Resident Evil five

Anton Winters 1:03:07

sadly, not quite Slayer. No. Okay, Alrighty, within this tale you fight monsters and so puzzles and explore Location One of the most notable aspects of this game and how it works to build horror as how it works in a manner. So for instance that may have a spider crawl across your screen and make let show and tell you to turn off the call and make try and trick you to turn off the console or even make scarce based on whether or not whether or not your memory card has saved.

Al Struthers 1:03:45

I have no idea what this is. It's not I generally don't know what the game is, but it sounds amazing.

Mike Macdermid 1:03:51

Deadly Premonition.

Anton Winters 1:03:53

Sadly, no,

Mike Macdermid 1:03:54

no, I this is sounding very familiar now.

Anton Winters 1:04:00

Sadly running out of clothes I think we're gonna have to shovel

Al Struthers 1:04:04

my inside the coldest I'm a draw. I think it

Mike Macdermid 1:04:06

was that what's the what's that? What's that game?

Anton Winters 1:04:08

It is a total darkness sanity Rick real.

Mike Macdermid 1:04:11

Okay, okay, is that one that I think that is one that sells really well secondhand isn't it?

Anton Winters 1:04:18

Yeah, it's fair. It's got very much cult following as being a very intimate game and how it builds hora

Mike Macdermid 1:04:24

I tell you what do the fifth generation one first quickly then since this one Oh, we'll see if we can win on that one.

Al Struthers 1:04:28

Yeah, why not? Go for it?

Anton Winters 1:04:30

Alrighty, this is an action adventure game two failed by claim studios.

Unknown Speaker 1:04:35

Claim lane Welcome back. So yeah,

Mike Macdermid 1:04:38

action adventure. What is this PlayStation one? Yeah.

Al Struthers 1:04:43

It's to Vegas. Oh, nice to go fast.

Mike Macdermid 1:04:45

Yeah, pass that next week.

Anton Winters 1:04:46

Alright, this game was developed for the Kendall 64, Windows, PlayStation, Dreamcast, and Mac OSO.

Mike Macdermid 1:04:54

Lots of things. Duke Nukem

Anton Winters 1:04:57

sadly not quite it now. claim

Mike Macdermid 1:05:03

they wouldn't do Wolfenstein clean I think what clean would have been did loads of things.

Al Struthers 1:05:07

tonnes? Yeah, although we'd like I'm thinking of sports games for some weird reason.

Anton Winters 1:05:12

Pass no pass. Alrighty, this game is based on a comic book off the same name published and developed by right family into comments, comics. Superman 64 know you play as jack the Ripper laminating The fact is realistic marketers have unlocked a power beyond belief. Oh, that sounds vaguely familiar.

Mike Macdermid 1:05:40

He's a great title. There's a great games you've come up with but I'm really struggling Jackson.

Al Struthers 1:05:44

I'm just gonna guess I was gonna go Ripper, but I have no clue. I just there's something in the back of my head. That sounds familiar. But no, I don't know. It's called guessing river guessing.

Anton Winters 1:05:54

The game game had a sequel on the PlayStation two titled Second Coming. Hey, this is actually a two

Al Struthers 1:06:03

all right okay, nice.

Mike Macdermid 1:06:06

I don't know I really don't know. But it sounds great

Anton Winters 1:06:12

so weird one because it has such iconic box art. It has a man on the cover holding a flaming skull towards the ball towards you.

Unknown Speaker 1:06:23

Oh this is gonna people are screaming it was going to

Unknown Speaker 1:06:27

idiot

Al Struthers 1:06:29

I don't know john they have no idea.

Anton Winters 1:06:32

Sadly no this title is Shadow Man. I think we have a proper troll and I need a shadow man.

Al Struthers 1:06:40

Yes Actually that name isn't ringing a bell i don't know

Mike Macdermid 1:06:45

i don't i don't know this game at all. This is like he's actually

Al Struthers 1:06:49

I remember the books are getting that yeah that books there Yeah, okay, okay.

Mike Macdermid 1:06:54

Yeah, you look at the books are I'm like, Oh yeah, that I would never I never played that game ever

Anton Winters 1:06:59

yet. So apologise. It's one of those games where I've seen it thousands of times for all of that Bry of concerts. I'm like, I'm sure somebody played it.

Al Struthers 1:07:07

Yeah, well, the books are I know exactly what you mean know the description of the man who this girl was ringing new bells. That's exactly

Mike Macdermid 1:07:14

what it is. It literally is. And it's that clean logo. So of that time. Yeah. But yeah, well, great games, by the way, and I actually quite like it. Sometimes when we get games that we don't know. It's only just frustrating. If we don't get it and then it's something really obvious like Sonic or is really frustrating. One of us doesn't know what another one really does.

Al Struthers 1:07:32

Yes. really annoying.

Anton Winters 1:07:33

Oh, that's all right. So maybe we can both we both last

Mike Macdermid 1:07:36
