Hello, and thank you for downloading Episode Number 40 of the Nintendo Switch UK podcast. I'm Mike, Amal and Anton is not here this week, sadly, but he will be back next week. And in the meantime, we'll just be the two of us for our 40th episode, so we're no middle aged. Well, yeah, I mean, I guess so. Depends how long you tend to live. I was kind of waiting for 64 middle age.

Al Struthers 0:35

Really? Happy disappearing off 80 ish. Really?

Mike Macdermid 0:39

Well. That's morbid either way. I've been another week of Nintendo Switch playing for me. I've managed to play a bit much to play a bit of the Mario and Sonic at the Olympics demo. Who is it? Good. And yes, I really like it. I haven't played I've only played for about half an hour. There's about four or five events that you can play. I think we've got kind of a You've got stuff surfing, and they've got

Unknown Speaker 1:03

suiting and stuff. Yeah, they've got

Mike Macdermid 1:07

badminton, which I haven't played yet. That's hitting stuff again, but hitting stuff with some hurdles jumping over stuff. Yep. And something else, but actually I'm quite I'm quite enjoying it so far I've only played one player in handheld but I'm definitely intrigued to try it with with two players. So if the downloads available now you can download it for free and check out for yourself. So I know

Al Struthers 1:27

we're recording.

Mike Macdermid 1:29

Yeah, go and check it out. So

Unknown Speaker 1:31

let me try the 2d stuff yet.

Mike Macdermid 1:32

Wait, I don't haven't seen if it's in the demo. I'm going to that Leander think it is I don't think it's in the demos, but looking forward to the most Yeah, no, but even then I think there's a lot of fun to be had with it. So go and check out the demo the free download for yourself. I've also been playing bit more Steins gates, which is good. I'm getting through there. Although I am at the point. Now you know how it was some visual novels and anime you get you get to a point where there's some sort of slightly weird Japanese sexual content that you weren't expecting.

Al Struthers 2:02

I have heard that this occurs yes so he's evolving tentacles

Mike Macdermid 2:05

signs signs k no that was not the case no stains gates so far has been pretty much free of that. There's been a couple of kind of references here and there but you know, nothing that but there was one scene in the last last play threaded. I'm about hour 13 and I was like, oh, there we are. That's, that's the bit that people were talking about. But anyway, the storey is great. They're really great storey really enjoying it so I should hopefully finish that this week and then move on to some something else because I've too many games to play. What about you Alastair?

Al Struthers 2:34

I've done a bit of switch at home have pretty much just been doing more Pokemon because I'm determined to finish this and give it back. Give a cartridge back to the 11 year old girl.

Mike Macdermid 2:43

Start taking your lunch money

Al Struthers 2:44

off, you know, I've had this game for far too long. But actually Yes, there's a couple of friends houses and they have bought ring fit. Oh, yeah. So I give it a we bash and it's it's, it's good fun. It's pretty much exactly as I imagined it will be. That sounds like a stupid thing to say. But the feedback from the hoop The ring is just as as tense as you think it might be is adjustable. It's good workout.

Mike Macdermid 3:10

Well, there's context this conversation that's all I can say.

Al Struthers 3:13

No it's a it's a very good work at least three or four of us and we're also taking turns to do different little mini sub games. Yeah, and then the person who owned it was showing us that you're one player version which just looked like it would be exhausting

Mike Macdermid 3:23

but the whole point isn't it Yeah,

Al Struthers 3:24

it does. I mean, it looks really really good but actually having I originally want to go and buy it. Now have played it I'm thinking as much fun as that was I'm not gonna wingspan was 6070 quid on it because I just know it's going to gather dust in my eyes. I'm not going to use it.

Mike Macdermid 3:38

What if you see that they announced maybe something else for it because surely that's the next logical step at the announced Yeah, by the way, we're going to have this out and that will utilise the ring.

Al Struthers 3:50

Depends on the game. I think what the, what they need to do is find a way of doing it so as more competitive so what they should really do is release a pack which is a Slightly more buzz got two rings in it so you can play with multiple people because it before more fun competing directly with people and having that would be hilarious. Yeah, whereas just used to end up doing your bit whatever else watches it was a bit awkward and it wasn't it wasn't as much fun as it would be to player

Mike Macdermid 4:13

but interesting if you are buying it for a fitness tool that it seems like it does actually have that element to it.

Al Struthers 4:19

Yeah, good cardio workout. You can see how it would definitely help build up your thigh muscles and some of these things there's a lot there's a lot of movement involved and I can see that they've probably measured tapping really well to the mark the way you did sorry that we originally did. So things like overwhelmed I can see them getting it I can see schools getting them I can see recovery centres and visuals people that getting hold of these things because actually has quite a lot of potential for therapeutic uses

Mike Macdermid 4:47

were mentioned it already but they are kind of capturing the DS market with the likes of brain training which is on the way and then you've got the we fit element of this which is the ring fit so yeah, interesting. I'm going to have a myself at some point, I probably won't spend that kind of money yet either. But I wouldn't write it off or rule out. Before we do move on. Just a reminder, we are on Twitter at NS Uk podcast. So thank you to anyone who was in touch this week with us. It's been relatively quiet week, although I didn't notice that many people are listening and downloading. And that's fantastic. You can download the podcast from all the usual places, I think on Spotify and stuff as well as usual places as well. Yeah, we're pretty much everywhere. And we also got a website

Al Struthers 5:30

we do, which is NSUKP. Coat UK or you can email us which is just podcast at NSUKP. Dakota, UK because we'd like to keep it simple.

Mike Macdermid 5:38

also deals with the emails, Anton tends to do the kind of website stuff and Anton and I share the Twitter duties as well. So we do try and reply to everything. So I think what we should do though seeing is there's just the two of us. So that sort of chops a bit of the irrelevant chat out because it doesn't mean one less irrelevant chat person. be guilty. It doesn't mean we won't have the quiz today as well as looking forward to winning

Al Struthers 6:06

and losing and

Mike Macdermid 6:07

never have happened ever. But what we will do is move on to this week's news so few few game announcements fact there's actually far too many for us to go through the most of what we've done with picked a few of the announcements that we think you might be interested in before we get started you know, the the Oprah den game with the like the dot matrix look to it, and it's been getting rave reviews as almost a perfect 10 I've seen on two occasions people saying is genuinely a brilliant game.

Al Struthers 6:34

That is I mean, that's the one when you're on board the ship transphobia what happened right?

Mike Macdermid 6:38

Yes, so it but people are saying it's an actual investigation game where you actually have to use proper it. So it's not like a kind of Oh, there's the answer point and reveals that you are actually having to use proper investigation skills.

Al Struthers 6:50

Interesting. I would be terrible at it. I think

Mike Macdermid 6:52

if it comes out in price, I think it's 20 odd pounds at the moment in the stores. I think I see on sale,

Al Struthers 6:57

I would be even a 20th is that good again, that's inquiries. Yeah,

Mike Macdermid 7:00

absolutely I'm not saying it's only because I have so many games I think I've I wasn't playing anything right now than I would but yes, we getting rave reviews. So they were very good. So as a micro recommends No, because I haven't played it. But I recommend you go and check out some of the gameplay and some of the reviews on YouTube as well because there's a few on there. So first off this week we're going to talk about a game whether there are few of these type of games appearing on the switch and already on there and it's Monster Energy. You want Monster Energy Supercross, the official video game three is coming to the switch on the fourth of January. Now we have a look at this. How would you kind of sum this up with Alistair, what would you say about it?

Al Struthers 7:40

To be honest, it's not earth shattering in any way shape or form. It's probably quite good fun. I mean, it's it's Supercross it's motorbikes jumping in performing checksum racing rain very, very quickly. If you actually watch the trailer park, yeah, trailers latest clever advert is very, very good. I

Mike Macdermid 7:55

guess that's the power of having a big sponsor behind what you're doing as well. Quite

Al Struthers 7:58

a lot of money behind them. Yeah, I mean don't it's probably a very fun game. Am I going to get it? Probably not.

Mike Macdermid 8:05

Well, I think don't write off just because it's Monster Energy Drink because

Al Struthers 8:09

I know I'm reading off it's more other things to do. Yeah, I

Mike Macdermid 8:12

didn't I didn't I knew specifically but i think you know, I wouldn't mind I have very good memories of old consoles like PlayStation one and Mega Drive and playing sort of motocross type games and jumping about and motorbikes and things and crashing usually

Al Struthers 8:27

excited by it was all my favourite games like a

Mike Macdermid 8:29

great go even further back. Yeah, in fact, the spectrum I had a few as well. So actually, it has been a while since I've had one and I, I almost I think Is it is it what's the one that we have already? Is it we've already got one or two on the switch? Yeah, like jumpy bike games. So I call them jumpy by the internet. Well, there's there's an awful lot because mobile devices are just flooded with jumping. We are this is this an actual switch one there's an off road something Are there any way you can check for me but there was one that came out fairly early on and I was kind of tempted by it. I actually have trials rising. It's a kind of side, sort of, you know, it's not the same kind of feel to it, but it's it's cool.

Al Struthers 9:05

So we've got we've got motor racer for Supercross do

Mike Macdermid 9:08

it was moto racer for that I thought about and actually was kind of Yeah, it looks all right but yeah only forgot it in a sale. So there we are. It comes out in the fourth of January 2020 which scarily enough is about six weeks time. That is about a week so not that far away. nine weeks time, not Oliver. There's a

Al Struthers 9:26

far bigger release coming this week, which we just mentioned.

Mike Macdermid 9:29

Luigi, his manager this

Al Struthers 9:30

week I can't wait so it's the 27th of October right now as we record this so yes, it is Halloween week. Are you have you ordered it pre ordered it you buying it what you do? have not yet I think I probably will be pre ordering it before Halloween. I'll be I'll buy a physical copy. So it's not much but no pre order but I'll play soccer only but yes, I'm definitely getting that game because it looks so good. Good. Yeah,

Mike Macdermid 9:52

sure. Excellent. Well, that is out this week. Next up sunless skies sovereign edition has been announced. For switch now this is a horror space RPG is how they're describing it. And it's going to switch in the first half of 2020 we did take a look at this trailer kind of

Al Struthers 10:10

I mean that's a really interesting description holder space RP was not how I took it from the trailer though You and I both looked at it when How do you describe that game

Mike Macdermid 10:17

I thought it was more is the one that we thought was more management t kind of like

Al Struthers 10:20

sort of build up your crew manager crew, but also kind of fly your spaceship, but it's how you describe your spirit your spaceship, but it's

Mike Macdermid 10:29

maybe there's a management element to that maybe it's just that extra element, but the trailer doesn't really give very much away on the game. But to be honest, I'm quite intrigued by the management slash RPG elements that we saw. I saw one of them where it was like Oh, so and so's died or whatever. And I was kind of like, oh, that that could be quite interesting if you have got an element of control over your crew and things.

Al Struthers 10:50

Yeah, it looks like possibly decisions you make have repercussions. Yeah,

Mike Macdermid 10:54

yeah. Watch this space on that one. Next up is rush rally three. It's a racing game. In the style of the column McRae games and it is actually very much in the style of the column creaking so we had a look and you've got your your person next year going hard right? Whatever they say your

Al Struthers 11:10

co driver Yeah, who's navigating for your navigator I suppose? Yeah, it basically does just quickly. re a call karma crown. Oh, for goodness sake. My brain is not working today, Colin McCree game. And I really enjoyed those games back in the days of the original PlayStation. I used to play call and create constantly. I've never found early game of really late quite so much ever since they've got much much better. Yeah, I've never clicked with one with that one. feels right. Yeah. only concern is it's a mobile game that's coming to switch.

Mike Macdermid 11:39

Yeah, again, it depends a lot for me the mobile games can come to life with the you know, decent control system, which the switch has ready for. Yes. So 72 tracks got career mode, which is good as the live events. Your customization is online multiplayer. So certainly they're pulling out all the stops of the extra stuff. And

Al Struthers 11:56

they are I mean, there's plenty of content there. And if it handles well, it should be really good. fun game, but it does still look like

Mike Macdermid 12:02

it does a bit. It does look a little dated to me. But again, I'm not ruling out as being

Al Struthers 12:07

a bad thing. It's not then. I mean, it's not the end of the world, but we do already have quite a few quite good rally games on a couple of really good rally games. I've heard this wasn't WRC I'm gonna say eight. Yeah, it's on the switch. Yeah, and there's only four they are really, really good racing game. So this is already competing with some pretty big heavyweight titles out there. Yeah, it's gonna have to be pretty good. And I've not played on mobile. So I don't know if it's good or not.

Mike Macdermid 12:28

I it's funny, because the games that you get on mobile, I mean, you get things like stars, you Valley and you get fortnight and you know, so there's a lot of titles on mobile now that don't worry me coming to handheld. So it's just going to be a case of wait and see a guest on this one base. It's well, it's really well reviewed on mobile. Yeah, well, that's a good start. Next up, it's a first person hot our game inspired by the king in yellow. I don't know much about the king in yellow, but it's called underworld dreams and it's going to switch in the first quarter of 2020. Now, we had a look at this trailer you you manage Just survived the whole trailer because you are not the best when it comes to horror games

Al Struthers 13:04

I got bit freaked out here I'm here I'm not quaking my boots but it was scared

Mike Macdermid 13:09

it looked a look it reminded me of a cross you know walking simulator in a horror game because it seemed like I'm not 100% sure whether this is this is going to be fantastic or just a complete dud I don't know

Al Struthers 13:22

like the premise something to do is guy was locked up for murdering people went back to the house look like maybe the ghouls and ghosts or something trying to get him yeah some interesting premise from from what we gathered in the trailer. My My only concern is it did look quite dated as well and you play that game with me 1015 years ago

Mike Macdermid 13:41

and that might be a style thing and that's okay, but I'm not sure we'll have to wait and see with underworld dreams as well It reminded me actually something that you might pick up on mobile or iPad or something so we will see there's not an awful lot to to know about that yet. The king in yellow ago gonna cover quick look and fight with the king in yellow is because what they've said is that this game is inspired by the king and yellow and this is maybe where Anton would go oh yes the king in yellow was this but he's no movie is a game what is the king in yellow?

Al Struthers 14:11

Apparently it's a play oh wow right let's go play the game yo

Mike Macdermid 14:16

excellent well I think I like this game at least 2% more because of that next up if you're learning to drive and good news on the switch we're getting a tribal yet while you try mom is here because animal interactive have announced code della route

Unknown Speaker 14:35

to well done Bravo Bravo. Good job my really I

Mike Macdermid 14:39

don't know I did hire French but

Al Struthers 14:41

so did I don't quite know how I managed to get through.

Mike Macdermid 14:43

No, I need to do it. Anyway. It's coming on the 24th of October so it's actually I don't know 2699 I haven't spotted this in the store actually, but I just have a look but I wasn't really looking

Al Struthers 14:52

for driving test

Mike Macdermid 14:54

simulator pass my driving test nearly 20 years ago. I don't really need to. Well, I don't know arguably, I do The point being that this is a simulation of actually the all the stuff around the driving test. I think from what I've seen, I think it has all the kind of like, which one would you pick here? And what would you know,

Al Struthers 15:11

it's a good thing, you these, these things would be no, I'm gonna call it a game. It's not really a game, the programmes have been on PCs for years and years and years. And it's nothing new. But I love the fact they brought this to the switch, either. It's a genius move, because you got a hold of people in friends who they may be ditch their old laptops, they may still have a switch and on the go, and you can probably do it much better on the switch than you can say, a tablet or something because you know, syntax stuff. Yeah, so they could sit on the bus, doing their bonus stuff. It's, it's, it may be a really clever idea.

Mike Macdermid 15:41

I mentioned this in about Episode 10. Where I think one of the great things about the switches the potential as a learning tool, because if you go back to the eight bit era of the spectrum 64 and all the rest of it back in in that either. We had lots and lots of educational games, you know when the Apple was out and all that good at the BBC. Peter saw he was out in the micro and all that. And this reminds me of that kind of thing. And then later on PCs in the 90s, but also there's like a coding game on the switch, which we totally passes by. And I meant to mention this was six months ago. And it's some sort so you can actually learn to code. I'm sorry, I don't know what the what what it is, because I don't know the first thing of recording. But it's, you know, it's an actual educational kind of, sort of premise. And I think the more of that on the switch, the better because it's something that you don't really hear a lot of with consoles. And the switch seems to be doing that it seems to be given us opportunities to kind of actually go and learn things. I've seen the the math stuff, they have a little vampire on it, and different you know, add subtraction and multiplication and all that you're getting our brain training. So yeah, I'm all for that.

Al Struthers 16:49

There's a nice myriad of stuff. I was having a very quick look to see if it would be level compatible, because that could have been quite cool, but it doesn't seem to be compatible. I really can buy it for 2699 if you're in UK, right

Mike Macdermid 17:01

is in English because the French I record isn't it?

Al Struthers 17:03

I'm guessing is not in English but you can still buy it. Right? Okay, so the 24th so like two days ago

Mike Macdermid 17:09

there you are put that on your birthday list of your Christmas list. Next up we have been talking about this rumour for ages as in the last three four weeks I would say and it's no confirmed colour white as gunslinger or call of war as they call it in the trailer the American guy. It's coming to the switch on the 10th of December no UK details yet but in the US is getting a physical version.

Al Struthers 17:31

Yeah, so let me just go ahead and shoot some cables in the face with a shotgun

Mike Macdermid 17:34

and also only 1999 but it will be a quote in a box type situation but either way, I'm really up for this one because it's a good title well reviewed your solid eight or nine out of 10 we don't have Red Dead Redemption. This is more traditional wild west gunslingers person gun slinging gum,

Al Struthers 17:51

I'm all on board for that, you know, you know, you know we're not the biggest first person shooting game kind of guys. It's not our

Unknown Speaker 17:59

senior I enjoy it. I enjoy them. I'm just not very good. Yeah,

Al Struthers 18:02

I'm terrible and which is why I don't generally enjoy them because I'm so bad. Yeah, but actually this one, I just want to go play it because it looks cool.

Mike Macdermid 18:08

Yeah, it does look good. So this is coming out in 10th of December. So that's a little bit of good news. And because I think, though I did see a few people complain, see, Oh, here we go, you know, the switches the best 10 year old gaming console. And so

Al Struthers 18:21

your point

Mike Macdermid 18:21

being and actually, the thing is, if you want it to be that it is that but if you want to only buy exclusives, Luigi mentioned three Yeah, there are plenty of new games and exclusives and you know things like Animal Crossing that are on the way and all these games and Zelda and whatever. So it's really up to you how you want to how you want to deal with it. The more games that for me that come the better as long as they're reasonable quality and well reviewed and find give people options. To

Al Struthers 18:45

be fair, that is a stupidest argument I've ever heard because the Xbox we got plenty of old games or places got plenty more games in the PC World with a bit of tinkering, play games and 20 years ago or more. Yeah, a stupid thing to say.

Unknown Speaker 18:57

Yeah, but that's that's people for you

Al Struthers 18:58

next time to say it. Give them a slap

Mike Macdermid 19:00

a virtual slap Next up, asphalt nine legends. I did say I had a shot of this.

Unknown Speaker 19:06

You did and you were enjoying it.

Mike Macdermid 19:07

Yeah, it was alright. It's alright. It's not bad at all. It's quite fun, very quick races, which I like, I'm not sure about the monetization cuz I never really got I got to a point where I was struggling to get through something and I wondered if that was just because I need to upgrade my car and pay for it. But I don't quote me on that because I didn't play enough

Al Struthers 19:24

to really tell you what does that mean you give up and stop playing.

Mike Macdermid 19:27

And I didn't give up or stop playing. It's just I'm playing so many other games that I put to the side for that day. I thought I'll come back to it but haven't done that yet. But it's had a million downloads in its first week.

Al Struthers 19:36

That is a not inconsequential number of downloads, Mike,

Mike Macdermid 19:39

but I think the game itself is actually pretty good. And I think that's the thing about it, because you've now got actual physical controls on a game that was pretty good on mobile, actually. And it looks great. It looks really good. So they've done a good job on it. But yeah, the monetization thing stay away from for me anyway, micro transactions, no new boo as there's one to listen to this statement Nintendo when you're doing Mario Kart just let us buy the game for mobiles please stop trying to charge five pounds a month for one thing that my other half said to me says she's obviously played Mario Kart in the switch and we you and unlocked everything and she said the one thing that she wishes Nintendo would do is put as much effort into that as they have with the mobile game because we're getting lots of new tracks we're getting New Seasons new ears and you all are and the thing with the switches that we've been nothing new since we had the additional content way back at the start or which I think was on the way you as well. So you know, I personally I know why because they can monetize it and and all the rest of it and then people might pay more for it because you know, you can unlock more stuff but it is a bit and I

Al Struthers 20:46

have been thinking about this over last week. And it occurred to me that this might be just a very good marketing ploy, or marketing campaign ready to announce Mario Kart nine as a surprise, missy. Not really going to be a Christmas launch, but it could be a surprise release and we are expecting Gonna direct at some point before Christmas. They've got a lot of people talking about America at the moment, maybe no looping to drop the bomb America partner,

Mike Macdermid 21:08

four days away from November and I think we'll have a November direct I think I give you exact time wasn't November 20 at 5pm. I said, I

Al Struthers 21:14

remember you're right. But how did you remember that?

Mike Macdermid 21:16

I did? Because I know. No, I don't I don't know. Don't quote me on that. I don't know

Al Struthers 21:19

exactly when you said but you said half past five. And now I said five. Would be nice. Yeah, I will be great. I feel enough time is now past that. I think we can get sorry I lost my laptop. I think we can no get away with a numeric card if it had been two or three months ago doing grumpy but I'm now at the stage because I've been playing Meadow Carter,

Mike Macdermid 21:39

grumpy about two or three weeks, two months ago. Well, because

Al Struthers 21:42

I felt America it was still too good. And there's nothing he didn't need one. But because been playing Mario Kart tour. I'm old jazz of America. I'm enjoying playing all these old tracks and we're enjoying some new tracks. I'm just saying to America and actually if they came along with my record nine, I'd be really happy but

Mike Macdermid 21:56

I don't actually Mind if I said it before, but I don't mind if they say we'll go We'll go brand new, huge DLC for Mario Kart eight or Mario Kart. I don't think we'll do the DLC notes I think it's times past but I think nine I think we will get nine in the next 18 months. I think it'll be an announcement soon. Hopefully a quick fire one like you said that would be nice but we will see Bubble Bubble for friends is getting a physical and Collector's Edition release thanks to strictly limited games so these are the the people a bit like limited run and there's another one as well bought for where they make physical additions of games that don't have physical versions. So which is always good for people like me that like to buy the physical copies at Bubble Bubble for is a classic kind of, you know, puzzler type drop drunk stuff Yeah,

Al Struthers 22:43

yeah, they were Griff actually was a drop was it? I think it was Bob ball of fire and you fight it. Oh, yeah. Yeah, same idea.

Mike Macdermid 22:50

Yeah, either way, but it's good fun today. good fun. Not easy for us colour blind people, but

Al Struthers 22:57

some do these days. A lot of these games have got much better. Yeah,

Mike Macdermid 23:00

that's true. And next up will a wonderful world which has been out for a good while now. It's a storey driven puzzle game is pretty much everything in this game. And it's got a lot of narrative, you got choices to make as a bit of kind of anime in there as well. It's getting a shocking limited release of just 450 copies. So,

Al Struthers 23:20

Collector's Edition instantly. So yeah, so

Mike Macdermid 23:22

the these games, the ones from these limited run company, tech companies, they tend to keep their value or increase in value, to be perfectly honest that our games on the switch and switch is becoming like that, because you don't if you go into a big store that sells video games, you don't see that many switch games. No you don't, which is kind of annoying for someone who likes to buy the physical games, very annoying,

Al Struthers 23:42

but then we just buying them from the internet. So it's not that

Mike Macdermid 23:46

it's not but at the same time, you know, sometimes when you're in a shop, it's nice to see these things. You don't

Al Struthers 23:52

have the visibility there. So people remember there's a console called the switch, because actually a large part of having physical games is just the marketing of it. Yeah making sure that some people's consciousness you walk around as there are some big supermarket this massive sections of PlayStation master sections for x box and you got maybe one two ways if you're lucky on switch and you do kind of forget is there if you're not embedded in the switch world like we are

Mike Macdermid 24:15

Yeah, absolutely well the more shops that start stocking switch schemes the better but of course I guess it's all supply and demand and things

Unknown Speaker 24:23

make the cases bigger

Mike Macdermid 24:25

don't make a case of the cases as they are. Okay, next up dark ciders Genesis is coming to the switch and it's coming on February the 14th 2020 so three know Valentine's Day can go hack and slash Yeah. Reminds me of for those that haven't played it before seen dark ciders games it's like a gauntlet old school kind of thing meets Diablo that

Al Struthers 24:49

it's hot don't run around destroy everything that's basically arranging Yeah,

Mike Macdermid 24:52

yeah, it looks pretty good though this one and it is coming out on the switch. So will we will wait for reviews. Next up battle princess. modelling is getting a limited run games release. And it's actually I don't know, I don't know. We'll have to check it was sold out. Sometimes the limited run games go within a day so maybe check that but I'm on it. You've never seen bottle princess modelling. It's like any bit 16 bit kind of cutesy version of a Castlevania movie meets Wonder Boy, that kind of vibe. I really like the art style of actually, it rhymes with Aguilar, which I've been playing, which I've got a physical copy of it's another game on the switch which has that kind of old school Wonderboy type vibe to it. Every time you say wonder why I just think Tenacious D every single day Really? Yeah. Monster biassing monster by instead. So you're just checking to see this limited run

Al Struthers 25:43

release I can find this plenty of them on eBay. Yeah, it's funny that I don't know enough to double the price straightaway. Yeah, I'm I think you might be right.

Mike Macdermid 25:51

You may be gone already. Because the thing is about these games with limited run, if you really are limited run I mean, you're probably getting you perfect, probably making you know two to 300 copies. So days is up to 1000 but people know that if you get a copy of this you're probably going to retain the value of it you know in most cases

Al Struthers 26:09

why reading this right is this thing they're literally making 50 copies of it or maybe

Mike Macdermid 26:13

because limited run our small company 34 $99 which is about right for a limited run because we are just pre orders closing November the eighth you know, I have a funny feeling might be gone already. Yeah. That the pre orders often will sell out because there aren't that many to go around.

Al Struthers 26:29

If I've got that wrong, someone let us know. Yeah, it doesn't look like might be sold out already. Okay, next

Mike Macdermid 26:33

up, we got to find a hospital. Now I'm quite psyched about this game, but I'm really annoyed about this because it's been delayed till q1 2020. And the reason for that? Well, the reason for that is because I've just are not that long ago, pre ordered it for my other half for a birthday, which is in a few days time and it was due out in the second of November. So I thought that'd be slightly late, but that's fine. Because you know, she's smarter but for the most part all this is perfect, and it's been delayed, which is really flippin annoying.

Al Struthers 26:59

You're going to give her an IOU well one game old still

Mike Macdermid 27:05

you know I'm not gonna get rid of the order because I got some pricing and all this but if you haven't checked out the trailer for this basically think Theme Hospital done for now

Al Struthers 27:13

it's the same guy the same team effectively Liberty boss they just left us a blue frog doesn't exist anymore unless you make team hospital so they've got to meet this new version and it looks just as adorable and funny and just awesome as the original was yeah looks really good

Mike Macdermid 27:27

and lots of bloody head related type into the way to play

Unknown Speaker 27:32

it though they've

Mike Macdermid 27:32

had to change all that but you know

Al Struthers 27:34

that's the kind of I'm gonna have to play that game when it comes over and you have to wait to February

Mike Macdermid 27:38

Yeah, I was worth it because the switch will be the best place to play it. I think

Al Struthers 27:42

I you know, I am I have mixed feelings on that. Okay, as much as I love the switch the PC Yeah, and I can't get past playing this kind of game or PC because it's kind of thing but certainly historically. It always working the max console didn't work. Switch does have a touchscreen. I've never really tried playing games. This will touch screen but my brain just goes. You want.

Mike Macdermid 28:03

You want to play some pc? Well, let me rephrase that. It'll be the best console to play on.

Unknown Speaker 28:07

I can get behind that. Yeah,

Mike Macdermid 28:08

yeah. Cool. Okay, so Reggie has done his first lecture at Cornell University. Oh, good

Al Struthers 28:15

old Reggie. So

Mike Macdermid 28:17

it's kind of weird though because he was talking about we sports and the we and he described we you in a really weird way. He said it's a failure forward, because it led to the switch. So that's a really unusual way to describe it. He then said and discuss Nintendo's diversity programmes. He commented on the benefits of meme culture and marketing. So he's done his first lecture. I mean, it sounds like a tale all it does. It sounds like a q&a with Reggie rather than the lecture. But

Al Struthers 28:41

I mean, that is an interesting description of failure forward. Because I mean, I don't think anybody would ever say that we you was a success. But I guess it was he spinning it. I mean, he doesn't work for Nintendo anymore. She doesn't need

Mike Macdermid 28:53

to spin it. Well, he is teaching marketing. So suppose if you're going to spend something, rather than calling a failure when everyone else is what about failure forward

Al Struthers 29:01

to and I guess a lot of the learning that they generated through the way you had gone in development of the switch and how you how it gets played hope you will use it I can see where it's coming from I do think it's a bit of a stretch but I do think what's more interesting is actually what I said about not wanting to bundle we sports with you because really we sports is what sold we you initially that everybody wants to go and play bowling you want to play tennis? Yeah, we fit but we sports was really what sold that console,

Mike Macdermid 29:25

and it had a long lasting appeal as well. It still was a game that a lot of people even late in the cycle would still go bowling on

Al Struthers 29:32

doesn't make you wonder the whole want to switch that came out that should have been bundled of the switch and they didn't wonder if it was if that decision was made in the back of funnelling eSports I would have thought leader learned lesson when we sport so yes, you should be the game but the console massive successful.

Mike Macdermid 29:51

Yeah, I mean, we you definitely didn't have that same sort of impact in its initial phase in any phase but Certainly not when I was first launched having kind of we sporadically had to eSports you are we

Al Struthers 30:05

clearly wasn't bundled with it wasn't No, no, wasn't a big selling point, whereas we sports really was.

Mike Macdermid 30:11

Yeah. So there we are. He's had his first lecture. So that's probably the first of May. I wonder if every single time he does a lecture, we're going to get more press conference.

Al Struthers 30:20

data, how much of his audience was press who were just actually students was to be there.

Mike Macdermid 30:24

I know how bizarre why their slice is so busy, most used to watch the lectures. Next up, Narcos rise, the cartels is coming to switch on the 19th of November. We've seen this trailer and a few different result and one of the reveals one of the directors

Al Struthers 30:37

was going direct. That's when I first got excited about it.

Mike Macdermid 30:39

Yeah. Looks good. It still looks great. I've had a we've had a look at the kind of latest and offices. I think it's the same trailer. I think it's another one, but it looks good.

Al Struthers 30:46

It does. I mean, it's a cool premise. It's a very cool premise. And who doesn't like being a 1930s? Guy? Yeah,

Mike Macdermid 30:53

yeah. I waiting to see what the game plays like. But I think there'll be an appeal for this. Yeah, it's coming to the switch on the 19th of November next up persona five scramble is coming to the switch on the 20th of February. It's like the Hyrule Warriors version of Zelda when they did the Hydra warriors it's like that with persona so it's a kind of

Al Struthers 31:16

a weird idea I don't get it but then I've never played a persona and I never played Hyrule Warriors neither one particular appeals to me why it's like what's the other Hydra warriors game that it's based off of?

Mike Macdermid 31:26

Yes the type of style of game where you just got about a million bad guys on

Al Struthers 31:29

the screen yeah

Mike Macdermid 31:31

yeah i mean that's the same as this is not the same but but it's good because it's got the characters from persona I think people are quite excited about it anyway even though it's not persona five or four get personify hadn't been happy with for as I said before, I'm amazed that still hasn't either management.

Al Struthers 31:45

Why is that nowhere? I mean, it seems like such an

Mike Macdermid 31:48

easy thing to pull over, given the success of it on the Vita know that I don't understand the persona for gold and not been under the switch but Okay, next up this game. I am very excited. It's the outer worlds is coming to the switch in 2020 I think it's been released on other consoles now or certainly it's not far off of each other for me but if you haven't seen this think Mass Effect meets bio shock kind of vibe I would say or meets Fallout Fallout actually I would say more fully but it's um it's even got in the Union got the kind of like the onboard computer that talks you like the didn't Mass Effect and I'm really keen for this I know that it's you know, the reviews have been pretty good. They haven't been amazing but I think people are saying yeah, this is something a bit different. It's got RPG elements It feels like it's something a little bit different a bit new. And if you like sort of space exploration and all that kind of thing as well an RPG elements then yeah,

Al Struthers 32:42

just sorry, I'm laughing. I was looking that up I had to look on Amazon and see if it was already out. Under the PlayStation was thing they sort of described the games as a player different storey and then see you can be floor to comment in a good way. Like amazing description.

Unknown Speaker 32:57

This is life love it.

Mike Macdermid 32:58

Yeah, it is and I'm I'm definitely excited for this in the switch and just just a shame, it's not a little quicker. But a nice release would have been nice. To be honest though, if it takes a bit longer you we complain when people rush things out just for the sake of getting that out. And I think if the switch has to go through optimization to make it the best experience possible, then we might end up with the benefit of this as well. Because you know, there are going to be reviews, and there are going to be patches. And by the time it comes to the switch, hopefully they've kind of integrated anything, they've changed on ps4. And actually, we might get the benefit of it by the time we get to play it. So

Al Struthers 33:31

yeah, that's very true. I always find it really interesting when you get these games that released across platform that there's no release at the same time. There's not normally a switch tax attached to it. I mean, the other ones may come down in price quicker, but it'll launch that all the same price. Yeah. Which I wish you would apply to other games. Thank you very much. Yeah. Instead of charging it just for having a

Mike Macdermid 33:50

cool little console. I know. Well, it's our own fault for being the trendsetters. Right let's move on to this week's rumours. Normally So not a huge amount in the rumour section this week but we will go through a couple that I've got people talking this week first of all there's been leaked patents for a switch style sharp handheld console now and I think a sharp I think old high fives from the 80s and the 90s have old TVs or microwaves

Al Struthers 34:19

yeah microwave so they have in the past sharp has been a really interesting company they have been very innovative in the past

Mike Macdermid 34:24

i'm not i'm not ruling this out or writing this off let's have a look. So you know you've got the

Al Struthers 34:30

it's a weird looking thing. It kind of looks like a tablet and edge to edge tablet with the controls or down one side

Mike Macdermid 34:37

It looks very slick. I'm not sure what the controls I won't say thing. They've got crushed him racing as they're kind of flagship kind of logo on their magnetically connected controller. It comes with so interesting. It looks like just

Al Struthers 34:53

a patent at the end of the day. They might do literally nothing with it. Yeah, companies launch patents old time, but so it's an interesting idea. I wouldn't I don't quite get why sharp would be wanting to try and get into the video game console market because it's a shrinking market. I mean, let's face it, we know it's going to be shrinking in the future there

Mike Macdermid 35:11

is only reminds me of like the Panasonic when they decided to do the 3d or there's another one around that time, and all these sort of random companies. So

Unknown Speaker 35:19

yeah, let's let's make

Mike Macdermid 35:20

video game. Let's make actual consoles. It just was a bizarre time.

Al Struthers 35:23

So maybe what you're thinking is it will run iOS because they have an iOS or Android because they have sharp have produced a few Android devices in the past. Right. So they could just be thinking let's do a specific gaming tablet knowing arcade is coming. But why would you bother doing that? Because she really enjoys playing things in Arcadia. Google state stadium stadium. sure they've already got some sort of Android device and they've probably got a place here in Monroe or they've got something they can pick up some kind of cheap controller. Why would anybody buy a sharp gaming tablet. I don't quite understand why they think this is a good idea.

Unknown Speaker 35:53

I will say if it does look quite slick.

Al Struthers 35:56

So these are just renderings. I know idea.

Mike Macdermid 36:00

But you know, as an idea, I think it's cool. We will see. I mean, we don't know if it's gonna call it as you said it is a pattern. Next up 10 cent the team behind the Chinese release of the switch, they began setting up a porting team. Interesting with Tencent because as you know, I write music in Asia, or a lot of K pop and G pop and you see pop, which is random, but there we are. I've actually dealt with 10 cent for royalties in China because 10 cent distribute royalties in China because they own some of the big streaming companies that are like QQ. So they're very much like an apple, but for China, so they're like they're so they

Al Struthers 36:35

have to do literally everyone. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So they want a tonne of Game Studios. Yeah, we've got Australia, all of you and you've got the fingers in a few more

Mike Macdermid 36:42

games do they also own and, and have teamed up with a lot of the big k pop industry leaders for music artists as well. So there's a whole kind of they're very much like a, an apple kind of approach to just everything. So anyway, they they are the team behind the Chinese release of the switch and the Welcome to the supporting team. So I don't know how that would affect us. But also it's worth noting the also part own Riot Games. So they fully own Riot Games, but they also part with Epic Games, Activision Blizzard, and Ubisoft and Tencent. The thing about China right now is that they're trying to become much more integrated with the rest of the world in terms of technology and music and things of that while still being standoffish at the same time, which is a very difficult position to be in. I know, there's a lot of controversy about that. But the interesting thing about this is where it might lead if they have got a porting team does that mean? We might start to see a development team over there porting old titles that might then come to the west

Al Struthers 37:38

or possibly putting some new ones you never know and particularly if they're putting their own game some studios they already own, you may get a better porting experience. Yeah, I suspect to be optimised because they will know the switch inside out. And if you've got a team who is dedicated to it, who's actually a sort of source almost first party it's not it's almost first party if they are the teams in charge of these eSports you might get less glitchy ports you go Charles nice thing

Mike Macdermid 38:04

panic button one of the best porting games and the wonder

Al Struthers 38:09

if we're thinking Ubisoft here they will partner on Ubisoft if they can put things that are slightly glitchy than

Mike Macdermid 38:14

I mean they could do a better job of porting and pretty much every Ubisoft port so far. I mean, I love the games you know the fact that we've got Assassin's Creed is great, but you know there are glitches in that an accessory three and I just think you know come on that's we know that that's not and we don't need to have those glitches and they're just spend a bit more time our patch it you know, that's another thing that Ubisoft are bad for is release the game and and don't give us a patch when it doesn't work properly. You know,

Al Struthers 38:37

when you hear the losing in your voice? No.

Mike Macdermid 38:40

It's not. It's just frustrating because you put your time and effort into it and then and money, frankly and money. Yeah, exactly. And then they do a great job of something else randomly and it's just bizarre. But anyway. Yeah, so those are the kind of big rumours this week. I mean, not not a huge amount. In terms of games, though. There are a lot of games coming out and especially we're just talking about it briefly and just sort of finish This week with games coming out I just find it astonishing every week when I see another 40 games being revealed and a lot of games we don't we don't ever mention because there are games that maybe there's already 20 of them out there like that are that are mobile port that you know we kind of miss but there are so many games and there was one game and I know you're going to talk about it because we looked at the trailer and it is coming out in 2020 q2 we think and it's a Ubisoft game as well.

Al Struthers 39:29

It is Gods and Gods and Monsters Yeah, that looks happy. I mean it was in one of the directs a while ago yeah, I'd actually forgotten all about it and it just popped back up again this week because I think they brought the

Mike Macdermid 39:39

what they said it's coming out and switch so it's

Al Struthers 39:41

gonna switch and they said it's gonna be wasn't cute to

Mike Macdermid 39:43

shoot so we got a bit more bit closer to know and when and where and walk but epic

Al Struthers 39:48

Yeah, it's really records from I think is the same development team was as the lead designer

Mike Macdermid 39:54

of the business development team from modesty Odyssey. Yeah, yeah,

Al Struthers 39:56

yeah. And it's it's kind of moving over. Assassin's Creed so we're all very historical are tied past this is going completely Another way is going to start with origins oh

Mike Macdermid 40:06

yeah and it's the RSI has gone away from being that we're sort of trying to get to the realism of Assassin's Creed and it's more of a kind of cartoon bought slicks at somewhere between it's like a it's like a really classy animation. Yeah, rather than all let's try make it as real to life as

Unknown Speaker 40:21

possible kinda cutesy kinda cool kind of just

Unknown Speaker 40:24

kinda cartoony but

Al Struthers 40:25

yeah, not I mean, as an example Okay, so you've got a cartoon demon you got cartoon ish kind of main protagonist fatal type looking character, but like the armour the wearing armour looks almost real. It's got proper Sheen, textures, it just looks interesting and cool.

Mike Macdermid 40:41

Yeah. And it's got that element of Breath of the Wild in the background, but in a more cartoony way as well. So different different type of animation. But I have to say I've I've got a high hopes for this game because it looks like something we don't have in that style. I mean, I know we've got Delta obviously, but it's not it doesn't feel like that. Look like that. From what I've seen it. It's different enough that you're like all this could be new. So, yeah, watch this space Gods and Monsters. It's cold.

Al Struthers 41:07

Yep. Well, that's the watch list. And as you say, there's a lot of other releases that we kind of just gloss over skipped over because they don't really stand out and it will be far too much to talk about otherwise, we're literally recording a podcast for four hours every week. Every single release that came out.

Mike Macdermid 41:20

Yeah, but if you have a game that you played and you think we need to check out, do tell us you can tell us on Twitter, it's NSUK podcast on Twitter. You can email us

Al Struthers 41:29

Al Struthers 41:56

we're sorry is no quiz but you know such as like

Unknown Speaker 41:59

your quiz. Yeah. We need him. He's our quizmaster. It doesn't really work with two. It's not the same. It's not the same. You mean that

Al Struthers 42:04

we'd come up with a format where we can substitute in some sort of quit?

Mike Macdermid 42:07

Yeah, well, we'll figure it out and season two, which by the way, season one ends and the end of the year so not far away. It is not far away. On that note, have a fantastic week. We will see you next week. Goodbye. And on behalf of Anton RY
