Hello and welcome to episode number 44 of the Nintendo Switch UK podcast. I'm Mike

Unknown Speaker 0:18

IML,

Anton Winters 0:20

Anton and another week and other podcasts

Mike Macdermid 0:24

and other podcasts and dates. So I think first of all, we have another review which I'm going to read so i'll come on to that in a minute before we talk about that and then we'll talk about what we've been playing this week. Just a quick reminder Nintendo Switch UK podcast on Twitter it's ns UK podcast I think is what you look for. What else we got Anton.

Anton Winters 0:43

Yes, we're on YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, we have as you mentioned, I believe you mentioned the Nintendo Switch UK podcasts, websites and educate people co. uk and a lovely email to controls and manned by Mr. Allister.

Unknown Speaker 0:58

Yes, by the beautiful me Yes, and his podcast at NSU kp.co.uk. So drop us a line.

Mike Macdermid 1:03

So let me read this week's review. So on Apple podcasts, there's a bit where you can put reviews and we've got another couple of five stars. So up to 35 five stars. So thank you very much to the people who did that. And the latest review says this it's the title is confusing accent and it's five stars. I'm so happy to have a Scottish podcast about the switch but where's the Aberdeen accent? I'm from Fife and stay in the dean and you sir are a fraud found a boots is the funny we accent anyways love the show and look forward to every week john and there's a five star so first of all from jumbo john, whom assuming is a heartfelt thank you very much john. Much appreciated for the review. In answer to your where's the Aberdeen accent? It's it is in here somewhere. It's just hidden Alister, you you've never really had a I've never

Al Struthers 1:47

i mean i've i've got a mother from the north and a father from the south and so I just have a weird No, never do any accent but I've lived here my entire life.

Mike Macdermid 1:55

I might well my dad's Glaswegian, and my mom is kind of a hybrid of different places.

Al Struthers 2:00

And you go there you find radio voice Mike I just because

Mike Macdermid 2:02

I work in radio. I mean,

Al Struthers 2:04

I can fit you're speaking of movement. I'm not gonna try and do because I sound stupid. Let's try and speak like a

Mike Macdermid 2:10

bully. Anyway, that's not Yeah, that's probably very good Everdeen accent but I am from everything. And so as I'll start, Antonio, not from Aberdeen, you're from Adam. No,

Anton Winters 2:17

yes, yeah, I'm from way slowly and slowly see count everybody there just close. It was like, essentially, most of the talents there were sale after the war. So half the people who went there are just people who would, we're living in Edinburgh and Glasgow, and we're like, oh, everything's blowing up. So they went to Wesleyan. So it's like a weird hybrid. And I'll have any accent.

Mike Macdermid 2:35

No. Well, it's that's it. I think we've all ended up with quite neutral accents. For one reason or another.

Al Struthers 2:41

We have although we need to find a few sort of English people to be on the show. Because we're not a Scottish podcast. We are we were supposed to be a UK podcast. It just so happens that we live in Scotland.

Mike Macdermid 2:49

Yeah, absolutely. I'm technically not really, I suppose my mom was born in England. So that's, that gives you you know, a bit of credibility was a good footballer. I could have played for England because you know, if I'd wanted to score But as it happened, I was nowhere near good enough for either of those things. Thanks for the review. We appreciate it. Yes, very much. appreciated five stars is great and do keep them coming. The best place for the reviews is Apple podcast. We do really appreciate it because it does help bump us up a little bit in terms of the well in terms of our egos, but also in terms of the of the ratings it does help us out. So thank you. So before we move on, I want to just find out what you've both been playing in the last week. First of all, I'm torn. What have you been playing? Oh, as

Anton Winters 3:31

as per usual continuing on with like sales agilis. But as for new games, I've been mainly playing a decent chunk of rock legacy, if you're familiar flat. Yes, actually

Mike Macdermid 3:40

is one that I was considering. And I saw it's on sale at

Anton Winters 3:43

the moment, I think and the it's so I believe it's free. 29 runs about that region. And it's a delightful little game for anybody who hasn't gone into roke roguelikes before, as a very good entry level one socially, the whole premise of The game and kill the whole cycle of as you have this randomly generated castle and very simple

Mike Macdermid 4:05

just which by the way is essentially what roguelikes are, it's the randomly generated date.

Anton Winters 4:11

Yeah, so you've got this randomly generated castle and you go in you try and slaughter as many people as possible, you die, you respond and then you become the next heir of the family. And the unique aspect to this game as you get to choose your your unique trait. And some are disabilities Some are just general traits so you could choose to be colorblind you could choose to be dyslexic, you choose to be blind, you could be gay, you could be you could have checked cancer, some you choose a trait, and that affects gameplay in some way. So if you're like a dyslexic, and all the dialogues jumbled up if you're colorblind, you can't play calculus, some of the colours like messing saying that you know, you know, yeah. But what's really the thing I really liked about is when you when you respond as air you sell have all the money from your previous generation. get to spend that money on upgrades count new arms or spend on kept blueprint blueprints that you find within the castle. And then you go back in and but the thing is to go back into the castle you have to give up all your money that equal. So it's count for that cycle of you go you get more money you spend it, and then you're slightly stronger for the next time and it's always about carrying that teensy bit further than you've had before. And you know, teensy little wee bit extra makes it really satisfying to come by so yeah, for a new title. So I think it's free pound so good place.

Mike Macdermid 5:32

Well, just gone rogue legacy is interesting, because it's a game that did interest me. I'm not I can't say I've really managed to quite get my head into wanting to play roguelikes yet, but this one was one of the few that I thought yeah, I think I'd probably quite like this one. I noticed very well reviewed so you would say that if you're someone like me, Anton that hasn't played many, then this would be a good starting point.

Anton Winters 5:53

Definitely in Guelph signing off, and like I only end up playing it because I think it's all PS Plus a couple years back for the Wii. But what really makes that council nice to begin with is you're only playing for like maybe a couple minutes at best when you first start out because you're you have nothing so yeah, it's not like a massive commitment unlike other roguelikes where you have to invest 30 minutes and you die and then you start over. So it's a very entry level.

Mike Macdermid 6:17

That's good because that's the bit that I haven't start over Alto, what about you? What have you been playing this week?

Al Struthers 6:22

I still bit a little bit more Mario Kart tour on the mobile phone which is it's actually it's not really enjoying that game. Yeah, I don't know why I'm really enjoying it. But this week, I have been mostly playing Pokemon. And still the old I'm not even know I got quite frustrated yesterday. I'm newly in the game. Got to the last gym door to open. And I spent about half an hour trying to figure out what happened and there was i'd skipped an entire city in gym in the middle of the game. I don't know how I managed to skip it. All right, let's give it a while. So I had to go back find my way to the middle of the game to try and find the symbols on

Mike Macdermid 6:55

the plus side. At least it was new content, the ethical baktun you won't go back to old

Al Struthers 6:58

This is true and quite satisfying. I'm just blasting my way through guys are book owner we have a clear I was lower

Unknown Speaker 7:02

than the course because you're much stronger than me. Yeah.

Mike Macdermid 7:06

I have been I've had quite an interesting week I finished football games, which is the one we talked about

Unknown Speaker 7:11

when you click

Mike Macdermid 7:12

Yeah, so it's quite short, if you like, like David Lynch and that sort of weird kind of vibe from the last row, because that's how it was described as a Lynch esque. Yeah. litchi. And I think when God Linda, they've given that name. Yeah, so he's like the Twin Peaks creator. And it's very, it's very much like that, without giving away anything. The ending is one of those that is, there's an interpretation in there. And it's really open to how you want to take it, but I did force me to go online and look at threads and see what people were saying about the ending. So it definitely got me thinking and it's not a game that I'll forget quickly there because it was it had quite a kind of powerful premise, albeit quite short. So

Al Struthers 7:52

so the mic critic score would be and let's not make it a 10 because as to normal, your, your, your great characters. Let's be Nine

Mike Macdermid 8:00

out of nine we are KFC six and a half at nine six and halfway and and the other one I finished this week finally was Steins Gate? No, Steins Gate elite yesterday? Yes, I finished it. So the interesting thing as anyone that's played visual novels will know that often there's different endings with stains gate there's chances to finish up early and I actually played deliberately saved and played four different endings before I got to my end. And I remember you saying last week you're really disappointed in the early endings. Well, I wasn't disappointed. I was just I would have been disappointed if that had been where my journey it ended. I love the story arc, but only because I knew I could go back in and keep going. Because it was a separate save. I would have been disappointed had the credits rolled at that point because it wasn't I wasn't fulfilled however.

Al Struthers 8:44

So can I ask before you go on Okay. Did you do you looked up online when these different things word to when to save and average receives.

Mike Macdermid 8:51

So to fit into two parts as you go along? The only real interaction you have as with most visual novels, it's mostly reading and the story The first interactive interaction you have is you've got mobile phone text to reply to, when I start playing, I didn't realise how much of an effect that has on your ending, but that's for the final ending, which I'll come to in a minute. Then there's another point in the game, which doesn't happen to be about chapter six or chapter five, I think at the end of that chapter, where you have to make a decision as to whether or not to do something or not do something and you get that same decision from chapter five to chapter nine. And doing one thing will create the ending and doing the other thing will let you continue. So it was at that point that I looked it up because I thought this has got to be significant. This feels like a really big moment because it was like drama almost, you know. So I played the, the early endings, knowing that that was what I was doing deliberately. But then why I hadn't done was managed to achieve the true ending. So I got to chapter 10 ended the game credits rolled and I was left slightly unfulfilled, although more fulfilled than I would have been previously it was it was an okay ending. And then I went on YouTube and watch the two and a half hour chapter 11 true, ending Wow, that's how invested I got in a storyline. It is a genuinely brilliant story is fantastic. And I found out since then they're in Japan, they've got three further Steins Gate games on the switch as a triple pack, so you get the zero. And then there's two other stories off of that as well, which have slightly different mechanics. And I checked online and watch the first five minutes on YouTube. It's unfortunate, there's no English subtitles. But the Australian board have just rated one of those titles for the switch just given a classification just the other day. So I have a theory that in 2020, we'll get that triple pack in the west or the US or Australia and we'll be able to buy it and it'll be the one purchase for me because it's one it's a story I'll never I'm actually we know I never really got people who would dress up as characters for cosplay and for things like Steins Gate because I never watched it. But now I'm like

Al Struthers 10:58

basically what you're saying is I'm in here. I was gonna say next week I'm not here next week, I'll make them in two weeks time you're going to get dressed up from cosplay because you're just getting into

Mike Macdermid 11:05

if I could, if I could find the right stuff to be one of the main characters, the science geek perhaps but it is a great story. It's a genuinely great story and I won't forget it.

Al Struthers 11:13

trails are the slightly it's a bit of a divergence, but you mentioned your theories

Mike Macdermid 11:16

divergence that's that's literally the whole point of the game diverge. So honestly, Anton that is like one of the main thing divergences the whole point let me carry on

Al Struthers 11:28

what I was gonna say was, you mentioned your theories, and we've so far much improved your CD ROM. Which theory you had a theory about the next Nintendo Direct?

Mike Macdermid 11:36

Oh, yeah. So I said ages ago, unprompted, because I'm wild and reckless that the 20th of November at 5pm we'd have unintended right now unless they've done it in secret and not shown anyone I can't say no means because subsequently we decided we'd all have a vote and decide Anton said last week I said this week the only one left is you Alastair. So phase on Wednesday, then

Unknown Speaker 11:55

then apparently with genius, savant. Yeah

Anton Winters 12:00

This one, two if it happens after that.

Mike Macdermid 12:03

There we go. Either way, but yes, no. So Nintendo Direct, we do have a special we will have a special one that happens. But just to conclude on Steins Gate, even if you're not a visual novel fun, I think because I never played a visual novel properly. And this was the first one that I had to play to the end. And I've put in about 3030 hours probably now into it. And I would absolutely do that again for each the fallen stories really good.

Al Struthers 12:25

And so, Mike, verdict on that one would

Mike Macdermid 12:29

be I'd be an eight and a half and a half. Wow, that's that's crazy.

Yeah. And a bit in the context of a visual novel. If you want an action game. It isn't an action game, but the story is, is as good as any story I've played or seen on anything. It's really good. Really good.

Al Struthers 12:44

And you've been playing with Ghostbusters today.

Mike Macdermid 12:47

Yeah, so just to finish off the Rocket League this week back on Rocket League, which is the first time in a while I'm enjoying it again. And then Ghostbusters, where I started again because I hadn't got that far and I thought to start again, and I'm really enjoying Ghostbusters at the moment. actually enjoying Boston ghosts. I've just got a bit where I've got to fight and Stay Puft doesn't make you feel good. Oh, it's fun. Fantastic if you're a Ghostbusters fan you'll love it anyway anti on stains get there you go. Good. Yeah, you

Anton Winters 13:15

know, I'm loving it this this week or two reviews to to new reviews are if you don't like visual levels, please same gate and if you hate robot legs roguelikes play roguelike say it's true.

Mike Macdermid 13:28

And I think that's the thing. I mean, I've noticed since got a couple of other visual novels, I mean, a lot of people who watch and play a lot of visual novels will know the kind of stereotypes that are in a lot of visual novels. There is a bit of that in this, but it's done in a way that it doesn't ever make you feel like it's gone too far away from the actual story. And I think that's really important in this story. It's a very good story, I can understand why there's such an obsession with the characters because they're strong characters really good characters. And at first I was worried that would be lost with the storyline and be a bit like all can be bothered but get through the first six hours of Steins Gate and you'll have enough absolute blast with this really good

Unknown Speaker 14:01

downloaded or hard copy.

Al Struthers 14:02

I bought a hard copy. I might be borrowing it.

Mike Macdermid 14:05

Yeah. Just gonna get parcels for six hours you're welcome to borrow. Anyway, let's move on because we've talked for a while now but let's move on to this week's news so first of all we've got some releases to tell you about and quite a few actually this week so we'll fire through these will have a chat. First of all Studio fizzbin have a note cinema which is a game about an intern that finally says no coming out in summer 2020 I only seen a very quick bit of the of this I think you're going to sort of show me some of the trailer in the background while we're talking here. Alastair, but Anton tell us a bit about this.

Anton Winters 14:38

Yeah, so it's really bizarre like that. It's got like this health kubis account similar to the tourist art sale almost. And literally, it just seems like people get in your way and ask you to do stuff and your two moves, which are just count variations will say no to count progress. For the label slash office before going to your, your quite literal boss at to see no one can do the SmackDown na, you know, I feel like in our modern society and you know, art is about kind of affecting your audience and relating to your audience and conveying emotion. And you know what? This game definitely does that too many of us living today. Have you seen them

Mike Macdermid 15:24

on time? Have you seen grits, grits? cicle, the cartoon with the cat.

Anton Winters 15:29

I've seen more of existence by having watch the cartoon itself.

Mike Macdermid 15:34

It was similar in that the main character gets really frustrated but doesn't say no to everything just says yes. And then let's off steam by going to karaoke bar and singing death metal.

Al Struthers 15:43

That is the best cartoon ever. Yeah, I'll send you got almost as good as cemetery tickets.

Mike Macdermid 15:47

So yeah, I think you'll really like this. It's very good. But watching that, and you mentioned the tourists as well, which has been getting pretty good reviews. I think Anton hersa Oh, yeah, yeah, I'm not watching it look cool.

Unknown Speaker 16:00

I'm not bothered by cool

Mike Macdermid 16:02

well this has this era has got a similar kind of boxy kind of almost Minecraft II kind of look to it but in a slightly more arty kind of way, I guess. And also what do you think?

Al Struthers 16:12

Yeah, I've no idea how deep this game is going to be misled. It's a one button game. That's what kind of does one button apparently is really funny. I like this it is really funny but

Unknown Speaker 16:21

we watch the clip there and the trailer doesn't really draw me

Al Struthers 16:25

in and going why would Why would I want to play that? So

Mike Macdermid 16:27

give me context is the trailer there one of the characters says can you get my coffee with milk two sugars and you literally go

Al Struthers 16:32

No, unless you bust them away by saying we were no. charge up your nose into a big new Yeah, I don't I don't know. Sure. I remain to be convinced because if it's is really too funny and enjoy it then sure. If they're asking to buy it,

Mike Macdermid 16:47

yeah, it's probably comes back to price. price point again. I think if it's under five pounds, then people will probably buy it if it's going to be any more than that which I don't know if it will be but we shall see.

Anton Winters 16:58

Yeah, I think ideally, this seems like tampon tail that you buy for five pounds I sale I think yeah I'm scared to a charge 24 though

Al Struthers 17:07

speaking of a while away so

Mike Macdermid 17:08

yeah, Summer 2020 speaking of sales I wish they would stop with so many games and see I just saw a New York cabs on sale again I'm like, and the headliner which is the one where you you have the headlines of the news and things change depend depending on what the headlines I These are two games that I absolutely want to play, but I have such a backlog of games. I've stopped myself from doing it but I wish I had stopped putting them on sale.

Al Struthers 17:31

Oh, it's a terrible problem to have so many games.

Mike Macdermid 17:36

Stop complaining never in the space of three games. Next up, ports up play has a nose broken lines which is a new narrative driven tactical RPG about an alternate world war two come in at 2020 off to see I weird thing to say but I actually quite like games in the setting of world war two generally, or if they've got some sort Historical element I like the idea there's a TV show is that the castle, high castle, the man and the man which I think is a similar premise. Although I've only seen episode number one, Anton what's what's the story but

Anton Winters 18:12

yeah, this one's a little bit less radical in its alternative ness I think they've they've made it a turn in the way that you can't just predict to know what exactly to do. And but yeah, it's very much a classic tactical RPG you know your Final Fantasy Tactics at counter top down. I believe it's turned base in that regard. And I'm not too sure I've you know, we've played a lot of games and World War Two and this one I couldn't quite see anything extra to draw me in but

Al Struthers 18:45

I don't know this one. This one did look kind of interesting because I don't normally pay attention to more sort of top down shooters, but because this one's got such an element of decision making strategy and what watch the lines where you cross which lines want your cross to bring your team home and how many can you save? It looks is a lot more emotional driven and narrative driven than a lot of these games tend to be.

Mike Macdermid 19:05

Yeah, I think that element is going to be important if it's going to be successful. Because I think as you said, there are a lot of games set in that kind of era. And you do need something different. I think the fact that there is an alternate, you know, version of World War Two is something and looking at it, it looks pretty, pretty well done, I guess, it's going to depend on the people that really are into this kind of game, whether they buy into it so they can get a core audience for it, then maybe it will grow. You know, it's one of those where we could end up never seeing it again after summer 2020. Or, or we might end up with people playing it for a long time going forward, I guess. But anyway, it is coming out on I won't have a date, but 2020 we know it's coming out next year.

Al Struthers 19:47

And it's cross platform when I say cross platform is being used in multiple platforms all at the same time. Yeah, it's just nice to know we're getting stuff at the same time.

Mike Macdermid 19:53

Yeah, that's definitely good.

Anton Winters 19:55

We don't speak off the other platforms. platforms, curse play. For

Mike Macdermid 20:00

there is only one speaking of only one Nintendo have released lunar exploration which the free level VR mini games is this is if I'm right, Anton you can go and explore the moon.

Anton Winters 20:10

Yeah, it's currently only out and then the Japanese e shop at the moment and there yeah just looks like a lowly simple game. There's It's nothing to write home about. But it's interesting the M, Nintendo are just kept throwing out these lovely games, it's almost it's borderline tech demo. But, you know, looking back at the Wii, the Wii U, we have so many tech demos like we have to remember that the Wii U game I was like project robot and the show that every couple years, they will always have on the list self, it's coming soon we're working on it just never materialised and, you know, like had enough content for five minutes. And I would have if it was free to download it and play for five minutes. So I'm glad we're getting stuff like this. And again, more level VR support so

Mike Macdermid 20:55

no harm and getting it for free. And I think it's good that they are going to support level VR. Perhaps we'll get them more developed level VR at some point as well.

Al Struthers 21:02

Well, you know what you need to do because I'm not here next week so you can get James on and then he can play it and

Unknown Speaker 21:06

tell us all about it. Well, he's got mobile VR. Yeah, we can try

Mike Macdermid 21:09

that. Next up is Tom games have announced neon cat lost in space, which is a side scrolling happy game. I've I've seen a bit of neon cat before and this looks kind of fun. It reminds me of a few of the mobile games from a few years ago. I think there's one was the unicorn whatever it's called. I can't remember now robot unicorn. And that kind of wackiness, you know slightly there's a there's a TV company that make cartoons that are like that as well. I can't think of their name now. I'm tone is this one on your

Anton Winters 21:42

you know, it's it looks like a free for Pong game. It's unoffensive you know, a little bit 2011 but I think they just have to be sensible in their pricing. You know, I'm trying to think account for reminds me of that like game where you had that rocket check pack or something where

Mike Macdermid 22:00

Right.

Unknown Speaker 22:01

Yeah, I completed that actually. Which is there's an ending to that. Well,

Mike Macdermid 22:07

yeah, I think so. I think I think I got to the final. I'm pretty sure there was an ending to it. I didn't get to it if it was. I know I definitely did. Because I'm seeing that now unless my memories just made me turn my head. I've decided I'm an absolute genius at Jetpack Joyride, when actually there was no ending. No, I think there is. I'm pretty sure that anyway, I did play that a lot. It does remind me a bit of that, but slow.

Al Struthers 22:28

Yes, little and it's got 10 million downloads and mobile was being played a lot. But at the end of the day, it's all pretty much a mobile game. It's

Mike Macdermid 22:35

a mobile game, and there's no

Unknown Speaker 22:37

I wasn't aware of the mobile port. And you can also buy it on steam for 399.

Mike Macdermid 22:42

Yeah, I like the rainbow. Sort of like stream coming from his bum.

Al Struthers 22:47

I mean, it's a very happy looking game. Very cheeky and

Mike Macdermid 22:49

yeah, I wish my cat had a rainbow sort of flavour farts like this cat does

Unknown Speaker 22:55

because my cats

Mike Macdermid 22:58

would smell

Al Struthers 22:59

you running on It's like a block kiddie jumping from platform to platform to platform to platform collecting donuts and milk bottles and coins and I'm sure there's there's something to them I don't know what it is,

Mike Macdermid 23:10

it would be good. I think again if it's a couple of quid or you can buy on sale for 99 pence you might buy it but

Anton Winters 23:15

I don't think I'm going to make Yeah,

Unknown Speaker 23:17

not day one purchase on now

Anton Winters 23:19

you know if it's the same price as the steam port, you know, on a sale, two pounds good see it and the worst case scenario I can always go back and re complete Pac Man and Space Invaders You know, there's plenty of games out there to complete Absolutely.

Mike Macdermid 23:34

Next up a purple tree studio have announced pompeu which is a modern hundred style ballroom and game ballroom and type game as a borderline game because I mean, essentially it's barama it's coming on coming out called q2 2020. So expect that probably spring ish kind of time summer ish maybe it's

Anton Winters 23:54

Yeah, and jitsu saved by this one is it

Mike Macdermid 23:57

is Bomberman but like hand drawn, yeah.

Al Struthers 24:00

He's got the same music the same sound effects the same field it's just boring but doesn't look quite as good

Anton Winters 24:06

to me But then again,

Mike Macdermid 24:07

gameplay is dependent we've got boring

Al Struthers 24:10

is boring if you look at the trailer for the game, but it is just Bama

Mike Macdermid 24:13

Bama Bama on the switch had a rocky start because

Al Struthers 24:17

yeah but they made it a lot better but they've

Mike Macdermid 24:18

added a lot to it and fact is one that I think I need to go back and play

Al Struthers 24:22

is one that if people have only just joined the podcast, sort of after the first two or three episodes we raved about it the beginning if you've not listened to us raving about it go by bellomont It's a great game yet for multiplayer and

Mike Macdermid 24:32

they've added more the angele a lot more because it was a bit bare bones and stuff. Anyway Anton Have you any interest in See

Anton Winters 24:39

I will lay considering Bomber Man Bomber Man hours like us for a maybe as low as 25 pound game? Yeah, I think this game just can't afford the rest of us who aren't willing to spend that much on the bomber man like a bomber man. It's like you plant maybe once every couple months out party and I think if they just if this is like a decent price it just ain't nothing lower than ballroom and are on sale at the club it doesn't stop I don't think it needs to do too much and who knows maybe breaking away from ballroom and they might be able to do some stuff next It looks like a banker like world like

Mike Macdermid 25:19

well I will say that was one of the criticisms of ballroom on our on the switch was that the world the world there wasn't enough there wasn't enough of it but I think you were just looking at prices there for boring man if you did want to go into the ballroom and are now

Al Struthers 25:29

Bowman 17 good these days. Really.

Mike Macdermid 25:35

which is which is not bad, but this could be an attack because again, I don't think this will be priced more than 15 pounds. I don't think I would be surprised.

Al Struthers 25:43

Well, why don't you guys go buy it. Okay, and then all the side of the lake or not. Or,

Mike Macdermid 25:48

alternatively purple tree studio. If you're listening send us a quote and we'll we'll review it for you on the podcast. Next up squatch games great name is bringing trover leaves the universe to the switch. Now this is just to clarify, this is Rick and Morty right?

Anton Winters 26:07

Indeed Sinclair and Justin roiland I believe, and very much similar sort of humour. So, if you're into Cal Cal sense of just impromptu, very just empro Emperor off sale humour. It seems to be very much in the same vein, and I believe it's like you're playing as trover playing as somebody else trying to go for the world. It's really bizarre.

Mike Macdermid 26:32

It's an old title. I mean, the thing is, I love Rick and Marty so

Al Struthers 26:37

it is so good to comedy and it's brilliant.

Mike Macdermid 26:39

I'm quite happy if we're getting anything like that. We watched a bit the trailer and and I was instantly like, yeah, I'm gonna like this. Yeah,

Al Struthers 26:46

yeah, same it is, like you said like, it is just brick and mortar in a video game, but with it being Rick and Morty, it just looks hilarious.

Mike Macdermid 26:52

It's actually a this week is actually at the 28th of November and it's 2249 but you get 20% launched a discount. The only thing is launched the discount is great except for the fight. We haven't had anyone really review I don't think it's I

Al Struthers 27:06

think certainly the platforms always enter Oh,

Mike Macdermid 27:08

yeah, okay, well in that case, yes, double check that

Anton Winters 27:11

it's been on a PC on ps4. And it's really interesting where those original versions were VR culture playing a video game inside of a video game. The real version was actually a full motion head. So be curious to see if they do any level VR support. And always seen all that so far has been on screen where they've just made made it just static where you can see that the fake controller on screen Yeah, and but this game where you're sitting in one place or sitting, looking at a fake TV would actually be a really perfect fit for level VR and you're a few people who have been packing now.

Mike Macdermid 27:49

Also check out some of the reviews on other

Al Struthers 27:52

platforms and nines or 10s and 96%. And yeah, looks looks very, very well received completely unaware of until the announcement on Twitter

Mike Macdermid 28:01

yes funny, I guess that was exactly the same, didn't know anything about it and had I know when it was anything to do with Rick and Marty, although it's not but seeing creator, I'd have probably

Al Struthers 28:11

seen voices seamless literally everything was saying it's Ricky.

Mike Macdermid 28:16

Next up fan game, an anonymous game developer has created a snez fans game borrowing the elements from the New Super Mario Brothers game and bringing it to the snares and the game is called new, new Super Mario Land. And it's available for free now at how long before they get sued by Nintendo or will that not happen with this on?

Anton Winters 28:37

See, it's really sad that we've ended up in this situation where it's clear that he's been very vocal about not like being kept anonymous because he handed a beggar like fine Rome, a Twitter account to share around so yeah, it's so close. Obviously Nintendo will just slam the BAM hammer on him and there's obviously he's done it A finished game it's right to equal just take it distributed among yourselves. And it's not able to take credit for it and yeah, so I'm hoping this just gets on a boat and it's just kind of bizarre that we don't care about the stuff anymore like as work in progress

Mike Macdermid 29:14

I think you've done a great job with the game Alastair? I'm sorry.

Unknown Speaker 29:18

I wish I could you

Mike Macdermid 29:21

know, it looks it looks really cool. I mean, I must admit it's it's pretty well done. A little bit different you know, looking at say the sizing of Mario is is a little unusual. He's a little elongated to where I remember him, but it doesn't

Al Struthers 29:36

really it doesn't quite Luke snares. It looks like it's trying to access but doesn't quite look. I don't know something about it. It's just oddly. It just totally snazzy.

Anton Winters 29:49

See, for me, I kind of saw it as a snares game trying to look like a DS game. Like Super Mario Bros. I would agree with that and, but I felt like a loser. snakeskin fairly impressive.

Mike Macdermid 30:01

Oh definitely. Yeah.

Anton Winters 30:05

Yeah, I'd love to see some like random company and golf like black market just make a cartridge version of this so you can play in your original consuls I like that would be kill. You see all these fans like unreleased games getting their mega drag ports. It'd be nice to have something like this on just for the bizarre and I saw playing a New Super Mario Bros game. It's quite a year old console.

Mike Macdermid 30:32

Absolutely. I'm all into games that revisit old consoles give a bit more life. And next up Nintendo Switch lights. We've got flip cover cover coming to the UK for 2999. So if you need your switch lights cover then you get in one fairly soon. I think this is an official one on time. And

Anton Winters 30:50

indeed Yeah, let's say it was originally released in Japan only and everybody's been important. Amen. Cause it's count one of the most Lucas and Waste account have the switch and a case that over and cumbersome so lovely piece of Canada woman is one of those ones where I'm like Hmm, let's switch seem more appealing where I can fit in my pocket without a massive like styrofoam case.

Mike Macdermid 31:13

Yeah, absolutely. I'm with you on that I just I just can't justify it the moment Aster can't justify it well you don't know late so you don't need to worry about it. I mean, it can't justify a limited run games are doing a physical release of mortal Chronicle hyper which the dungeon crawling RPG I must have. I don't know anything about this game Anton.

Anton Winters 31:33

Yeah, I looked up and I watch Game film and I've completely forgotten know fully looks like well, raving review from me.

Mike Macdermid 31:40

Yeah, I mean is there as dungeon crawler so that's kind of cool. I RPG elements. limited run usually do a pretty good job of these things as well. To be honest, I think you've just pulled up a quick gameplay trailer. So we'll just have a very quick look and see if there's anything there that we can kind of give you. More info on it looks kind of anime cutscenes I would say kind of looking at the rest of it. It's difficult to sort of tell from what we've seen is a lot going on there but I guess it's one of these games again, it's actually it reminds me like a visual novel elements in there randomly so I'm not 100% Sure. Not sure about what's going on in that picture Alster, is that the same game or have you just got bored and gone

Al Struthers 32:21

some some guys

Mike Macdermid 32:25

are rated well it's not quite not quite

Al Struthers 32:26

but it's definitely somewhat sexualized slightly Yeah, well,

Mike Macdermid 32:30

Japanese is probably because there are a lot of many that do tend to come from the Japanese market when we see you know these things so

Al Struthers 32:38

I'm not gonna get into it. Anyway I don't know how old are in says we should behave.

Mike Macdermid 32:42

Lateral Chronicle hyper a dungeon crawling RPG, limited run games in a physical release of that next up snack world the dungeon crawl gold is coming to the west on the 14th of February. This is a cute dungeon crawling RPG from level five. So Anton Will you be buying this evening? Oh sad.

Anton Winters 33:00

I don't think so too many games coming out next next year yeah very much it's called like this cute farm a ska Santa Cal similar to the lake or Harvest Moon sale games. Oh yeah and they say tech and very cute squatchy their health charge quest boulder under character designs I know hundred percent sure and what you do I don't know if you're looking for food or what the story is but you know it's done well in Japan as seems to be fairly popular. And it's coming over here I believe that might began a physical release considering this level five. So another tale coming our way. There's so many I know I know.

Al Struthers 33:44

Yeah, I mean, this one. This one seems at least it sounds quirky. This one. Yeah, it's the little tiny goes with it. Say it's become a heroic adventure and this roguelike RPG crawling through dungeons and search for your rare treasure on a mission to seek revenge against the villainous salt and vinegar

Anton Winters 33:56

that violated your vouch

Mike Macdermid 34:00

Salt and Vinegar Moscow well if you are interested then you'd off that long to wait February so not too far to go and of course they are bringing to the west so you can go and check out I'm sure they'll be plenty online level five with the team that are bringing that next up Smash Brothers ultimate is now the best selling fighting game of all time so on didn't I can never remember you don't have it

Anton Winters 34:24

I I did pick up but yes to get into and I've always I've always struggled with Smash Bros games that I really wanted to get into this one but just never worked till its interest I am my head I never see Smash Bros as a Fein game I can't see his own unique blend of game. I guess I'm so used to the street fighters and stuff like that what chump surprise of all of the street fighters more helmets. And this is the one that's taking it close like Street Fighter two was a phenomenon when it first came out there

Mike Macdermid 34:56

as well. I mean Mortal Kombat massive around

Al Struthers 34:59

me Street Fighter to say The title for a long time is the best selling fighting game ever. 15.5 million units, as you may already know, so if you if you do notice, if you don't know me doing a guess how many?

Unknown Speaker 35:11

How many Smash Brothers actually

Mike Macdermid 35:14

I reckon it's a win rate for 26 million.

Unknown Speaker 35:16

Anton Do you know the number?

Anton Winters 35:18

I do know I'm gonna be 2021

Al Struthers 35:24

you both over 15.7 so it makes it 200 days. Still 15.7 million is a lot in this short time whereas Street Fighter two so 15.5 million full stop. Yeah,

Mike Macdermid 35:36

that's amazing. It is the question I think Anton's got a point you know, it's funny that's for the fighting games Smash Brothers because it's

Al Struthers 35:43

just the most appealing

Mike Macdermid 35:45

Yeah, maybe it's just because it's got a bit for something for everyone I guess. Yeah. No, but well done to ultimate is

Anton Winters 35:52

officially more Smash Bros. than they are we use Wow.

Mike Macdermid 35:58

Rip that we you Next up the In a black friday cyber sale until the first that this December with big triple A titles about 70% of Black Friday on Friday and I think Nintendo got in their bed early. There's some pretty big titles online The only downside being Of course, they are online titles they're not physical but if you are an online player then this is the time to go and buy some games Alastair?

Al Struthers 36:20

It is although I'm wondering who's got the money to buy them anymore because surely everybody's waiting for getting their Christmas money and all that good stuff. It's a bad time of year to be doing things like that. digitally No, you can't buy stuff to give us a gift. Yeah.

Mike Macdermid 36:34

I think it's a tempting time of year I think all they're doing is just making people go Oh, I can get presents later. I can I can buy him from me. Until interview Have you been tempted you've obviously been tempted with Rogue Legacy. But

Anton Winters 36:45

yeah, I picked up roguelikes a which was actually on slightly before but I was having a look. So there's a lot of great titles in there. But a lot of them were games that we've seen on sale before with not any know any more of a discount which is a shameless I never get there's I think there's like 150 titles. Yeah, it's a lot of that stuff that we see on sale all the time. Like the Mega Man legacy games, there was a German Skyrim in there for 25 pounds,

Mike Macdermid 37:12

which you can still pick up physical for last, you know, and it's one of those. I did pick up kid blue, which was the new release we talked about last week, because they had an early sale was about 30 pounds or something. And I have to say that there was a major bug with kid blue when I played it. Really? Yeah, I tried to start the game. And it got stuck on the interest screen. Just that not even the interesting the developer logo. Oh, dear. So then I thought, well, maybe there's something's going wrong. So I reinstalled it. And same thing happened again, I thought I was. So I was searching and searching and eventually I found on Twitter. Some people had tweeted them with the same problem and they said, Oh, yeah, patch coming soon. What it is you need to actually restart your whole switch. And when you turn it back on, it'll work. And sure enough, did that and it did work randomly. So really odd as a product glitch I think they released the patches I did see a very quick very small game so the patch was so quick that I don't but I'm pretty sure the patches out now so hopefully that will be a problem but if you are having that problem if you picked up kid blue for a bit of old school of Alex kids type jumping about monster Wonder Boy all that kind of stuff then that's the problem and you have to restart your swing so

Anton Winters 38:25

on the talking point of super weird glitchy some health did this halted people Brink correlate and figure this out. There's a new weird one where if you have a micro SD card that you also use with your Roku, if you put a Pokemon savefile on it for swords and shields, it breaks the rocket. And it's the only game on the switch that does this. I think it's so bizarre that people think like people figured this out that this was even a problem.

Mike Macdermid 38:54

Like it's such a weird circumstances.

Anton Winters 38:56

Yeah, like it's just weird that there was enough people To connect the dots that also put their use the same SD card for their switch games and their Roku. That figured this out. It's so bizarre. Whoever takes us SD card out of the switch.

Mike Macdermid 39:11

I'm actually yeah, I haven't.

Al Struthers 39:13

I haven't looked at wouldn't replace it because it broke. Yeah. Yeah,

Anton Winters 39:17

but we all have Yeah, I'd be terrified like to one lose it but also to lose like my saves. Like, that seems baffling. I know like, uh, cuz I don't even know how much like how much space with a Roku even take out. Like there's not many apps for those. Nevertheless,

Mike Macdermid 39:34

I can think of his route from America. I know Yeah. Roku, Roku. And Okay, next up. Best Selling game released by Xbox in Japan is no the switch version of Minecraft, which has hit 1 million sales. That's incredible. Although I know my Xbox in Japan has never necessarily been the top seller. But still, that's a huge achievement Anton. I,

Anton Winters 40:03

you know, I don't know what to be proud of that the fat or like what to think of this because on one end I'm like, wow, that's minecrafting really well in Japan and then the other side I'm like, Oh my god, Xbox has been doing that better than Japan like we've all known like the last all free of the Xbox has been discontinued in Japan. Yeah, prematurely. So it's like it's been pulmonology done bad. But the fact that none of the titles could hit a million sales it's like, oh dear, and no, I'm also curious if that's just maybe has Minecraft been popular and other platforms in Japan? Or is this like an introduction to Minecraft for the first time? It's very curious.

Mike Macdermid 40:41

Yeah, meets is actually some more research. I don't know what kind of influence Minecraft has in Japan. But 1 million doesn't seem like that much for the best selling game on console. But that just shows you again, as Anton was saying Xbox, perhaps not quite the powerhouse. It is in other countries.

Anton Winters 40:55

But hey, we are

Mike Macdermid 40:59

wanting to coming out on the 10th of March 2020. A lot of people be really chuffed about that and buying that and picking up early I would imagine on

Anton Winters 41:07

yeah I believe it's based on an old Super Nintendo game which had graphics from the Master System arrow Yeah, I think it was very neglected during its time however, as built up a bit of a cult following and you know if we've got brand new console a plan on and it's a faint of passing when you look at all of swells that's got redone graphics, it looks fairly swift and modern. Yeah, although too much to the dismay of the developers who put time into this I do love the original Master System graphics. Something about it's not quite Nintendo, and like any as graphics, but not quite Megadrive classics. There's a sweet spot in there where I just minus Soulja bleeds

Mike Macdermid 41:47

well, like the Sonic the Master System, Sonic version.

Anton Winters 41:49

Oh, yeah, with the awful gelf You're bleeding music in this to zoom then? Yes, I love it. Yeah,

Al Struthers 41:56

yeah, I'm just looking blank right now because I didn't want a the secret console's yeah there. The enemy console Nintendo all the way yeah I

Mike Macdermid 42:03

say that no but back then I mean I would have disowned myself If I'd known that I'd be doing that Nintendo podcast years later I've been looking over to the like what are you doing? Well, so did Sega to be fair next up they realised you're rubbish and give up they weren't wrong it definitely rubbish. Oh my goodness the Dreamcast was an absolutely phenomenal machine it was just wrong time wrong moment wrong sales pitch everything was wrong about it but it was a brilliant brilliant machine

Anton Winters 42:32

believing that that the Dreamcast sold well it was that yeah, it was just you could burn them all the computer right so I had everything going for it

Mike Macdermid 42:44

is a great console stream Castillo really definitely. Next up we have the official Animal Crossing Isabel Twitter. It's no longer going to tweet about pocket camp. That's going to get closer so No, just I'm not going to see much more without Other than just if you're a fan No, you know and you don't have to listen to the pocket camp tweets, which is probably I think a lot of people quite happy about that and I think a decision that's been made to stop people morning about getting pocket camp content on their Twitter feed I would have thought on

Anton Winters 43:15

Yeah, as far as I feel like that the bulk people are hoping with Wes this news that they're going to start talking more about newly surely horizon surely. And Fingers crossed the month of May? Yeah, a couple months away. Historic the first ever game Pacific Nintendo's right was that one for new leaf. So I'm Fingers crossed, we get an Animal Crossing New Horizon direct coming soon because there's a lot of that we nuance details that and not everybody would care about but the Animal Crossing fans will go crazy about like even from the original trailers, people are just losing their minds at the smallest details. So yeah, hopefully we get more info.

Mike Macdermid 43:52

right we're going to find you some more news items and then move on to the rumours. So next up aliens isolations release date has been confirmed for the fifth of December. 2019 not a lot more to really say on that other than it's coming out soon. So if you are a fan of that game and you want to check it out, then it's not that long ago. Yeah. 2019 Yeah, I'm looking at thinking this is 2020 but it's not. It's strictly limited games they're bringing the data is cosmic collection console, to the west, which includes the visit database or deny a second can never remember what they call

Anton Winters 44:21

various

Mike Macdermid 44:22

to Megadrive Japan version, saga, the Genesis version, the massive loads of different games from that particular collection from the Darrius collection, so you get the whole lot nothing to do with the guy that sang colorblind in 2002 Alistar so there are daddy's rocker who sang waggon wheel. None of those things definitely different game. I have either of you ever played any of these games? I have not

Anton Winters 44:49

played the original arcade version on May or something like that. It's a solid a good old classic top down chair.

Mike Macdermid 44:55

That's what I thought. Yeah, I thought I do vaguely remember. I don't think I've ever am really have I say that I don't think I have ever I think I probably happened not recently. Next up Pokemon centre London is returning for the Pokemon 2020 World Championship roster with all your practice will you be competing next year?

Al Struthers 45:12

Unlikely unless you I didn't realise it had gone away remember and they had a pop up store thing I thought that was still there by clue misty coming by. Yeah,

Mike Macdermid 45:21

well coming back. Will you will you be going down soon?

Anton Winters 45:26

Oh, I wish I could but nevertheless, it seems like they're making their money so fingers crossed we can finally get our Nintendo London store the dream one day.

Unknown Speaker 45:35

Yeah, absolutely.

Al Struthers 45:36

Absolutely. Next we can go and buy our very own Pokemon.

Anton Winters 45:39

Yes, Mike, you can own your own pick it up. I'll I'll be happy with that.

Al Struthers 45:42

Are you more of a

Mike Macdermid 45:45

Jigglypuff algos Jigglypuff Next up we've got I often get mistaken particularly next that we've got the Chinese Nintendo switches they're coming with New Super Mario Bros u Deluxe pre installed have seen the the the images of this and Yeah it's yeah it's the switch 10 cent I guess behind the distribution and sorry and that side of things I think from I wonder

Al Struthers 46:07

why like any game or fatally away with a pre installed that's really interesting move because they've not been in the West

Mike Macdermid 46:13

I think we did that with other consoles previously and later iterations of the console if you think back to you know way back to these the map Master System came pre installed with either current or Alex kid

Al Struthers 46:27

yeah the NASA NASA came with a bundle cartridge but this is actually physically

Mike Macdermid 46:32

installed on the Master System had Alex kid installed that yeah that was Alex kid was was a pre installed game didn't need like this didn't need a cartridge sorry didn't need anything. It was in the actual console

Al Struthers 46:43

to my knowledge Nintendo's never done that. But they've never had built in storage really before we know we kind of did but it didn't. It still had disappeared.

Anton Winters 46:50

Yeah. So this is really the only time we've done this as I think what's the free? Yes And today? Yes, yes, budget ones especially to do with games. Yeah, but yeah, it's interesting that it's almost like they're Nintendo's having to prove their worth and this new audience has. A lot of Chinese users probably have never played a Mario game. And yes, good point. I am so jealous that they get a free game and we don't.

Mike Macdermid 47:14

Yeah, also I wonder if it may be shows that they're pushing really for the handheld market, they'll give them the choice of game as well. Because whilst that is one that you can play two player, I guess, three or four player Yeah, but it's it's just thinking of the style of it. I'm just wondering if maybe that's the point. Maybe they're just hedging their bets a bit and they go well, this is something you can play handheld single player. Hey,

Al Struthers 47:34

we'll give you this game. now. Go buy some echo bassmaster controllers from us. Jam maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe it's a really clever marketing ploy.

Mike Macdermid 47:41

But we'll see. We'll find out how the sales are I'm sure. Next up. We have ikaruga is getting a fizzy get a physical release. I said that like it never read the word before. I've seen the game many times but I can't remember ever really seeing it. Physical releases this will you be buying it and done.

Anton Winters 47:57

All I'm tempted to say I've had echo on my wishlist for a while especially since it's one of the few games you complete vertically yes right it's combined with physical release of barriers great tend to be a final top down sure so old school all the way I did there is

Mike Macdermid 48:11

fun. I mean, he has a lot of the visuals are very good. I mean, they're very kind of there's a lot going on on the screen, but from what I know of it, it's fairly intuitive once you get going as well. So yeah, it's kind of fun doing the whole vertical thing as well. I have done it with the pinball game. The vertical thing did you

Anton Winters 48:33

Yeah, Did it work? Well, yeah.

Al Struthers 48:35

Yeah, it was cool. I'd love to play my switch on the side just just for novelty. Yeah, yeah,

Mike Macdermid 48:39

it's fine. It's cool. It's it's good fun. I wouldn't necessarily want to hold it that way forever. But

Al Struthers 48:44

it I how is it because obviously controls how do you do it on screen at that point, because

Mike Macdermid 48:50

I can't physically figure out how you try to remember them how I did it.

Anton Winters 48:55

I've promo I'm aware. There's a couple ways I've seen people do it. There's one Lee What you just lay it down on a table and do it count and what the joy cons detach. And there's the ikaruga method where you can have that where you just use that the joy cons and portray modes just one single joke on what the screen going up, man. So you've just got a very narrow control and then we as there as a company who makes a flip grip, where it's like a joy con grip holder you could to joy console and then it has a slot where you can place the switch vertically strong.

Mike Macdermid 49:31

It's quite cool, huh? Which I

Al Struthers 49:36

was gonna say says intenders you may be going a bit more thought and I'm not criticising Nintendo for this, but a bit of thought to people actually maybe utilising it that way. Going with, I don't know some say more control, better control system. If you're holding it from the joy con at the bottom and you're holding your screen above you. That's gonna be quite heavy and cumbersome wait for the Pro. table was no kickstand for it that were owned. It just feels uncomfortable. hasn't been designed to do it.

Mike Macdermid 50:01

No, it hasn't. I don't I don't actually think really Nintendo are going to be that kidding. I don't think the market is big enough. Well, I see that

Al Struthers 50:08

but they're developing a lot of mobile games at the moment. And they all work that way. Yeah. And there is a rumour that a lot of TVs you can start being built that way. Right. So instead of your TV living and being landscape, your TV might becoming portrait not too distant future. Oh, it's awful.

Mike Macdermid 50:21

I'm sure it's like every other technology. We think it's awful. And then it turns out to be what everyone gets used to, I guess. Yeah. And next up, Miyamoto says that many parents want to keep their children from playing video games, but the same parents have no problem with allowing them to watch Disney movies. We cannot see this the challenge Disney unless parents start feeling comfortable but the children play Nintendo I've become more interested in creating greater opportunities for a larger audience to enjoy. Okay, there's a lot to dissect here. We'll go into massive detail about it. What I will say is that yes, I do think there's a over stigmatism stigma. the right words stick

Unknown Speaker 50:59

stigmatised We'll go with that one. Oh, yeah. Right. So

Mike Macdermid 51:02

basically, I think there's a lot of parents that don't understand video games and don't understand how they work and why the right video game is absolutely fine for a kid and can be a good thing and positive. And that's been the same since the 80s. And it hasn't changed. And I know that from a few of my friends saying to me, what do I do? My kid wants to switch. I'm scared. What do I do

Al Struthers 51:23

wrong? Yeah, I mean, the, at the end of the day, you see parents to think of everything the same. Too much switch and too much Disney and too much anything is all bad. A little bit of them is fine. And if it's a question of Yes, you've got half an hour of digital entertainment today, what you want to do and they can pick whatever they will do. That's fine. There's no there is there is I mean, you know, micro probably quite good examples of kids, you probably grew up spending a lot of time staring at a screen and I'm guessing it's exactly the same. I spent a lot of ice I probably wouldn't spend too much time playing when

Mike Macdermid 51:52

I was outside pretty much every day. But then when I was in, I was playing my spectrum. I was playing the Megadrive spy was kick football. stayed on my own until someone came. I didn't play football. But then the world has changed again. since we were kids. I know there's so much me so much content.

Al Struthers 52:06

There's always accessible across Netflix and Amazon Disney portal. Yes. different channels. Yeah, exactly. And that was that was good very point. We didn't have that much to watch. Yeah, use your kids tv, it was over like two or three years.

Mike Macdermid 52:18

Shopping rented a video on a Friday night and that will be your movie? You know? I think there is an issue. I think the thing with Disney at the moment is there is a bit of a lot of discussion about whether Disney movies are problematic because of the old school nature of them. And I do have a slight issue with you know that I'm sure there are things in the current day in 2019. If you look at them in the cold light of the and judge them against everything else. Under Yes, there's lots of course there is but still, but that's about regulation and understand that and teaching your children to understand what the context is and why it's in that context and why it's a very story and not a real i think i think that's the same as video games. For me anyway, it's the same thing, understanding and discussion. So when

Al Struthers 52:55

you go to apply the same filters and that there's kids games, and Adult games there's kids movies as grown up movies are Kids TV shows without an

Mike Macdermid 53:03

adult please to get strip poker on the spectrum in the 80s. I mean, I remember having and not knowing how to play poker so it didn't matter so it was still coming for me as well but until what what's your thoughts on this comment?

Anton Winters 53:15

Yeah it's interesting little Nintendo are really want to expand on their characters. I'm looking at the character tersely have in the roster. Mario is not far off. Let's see the video game equivalent to Mickey Mouse area. At what's the new movie come along with the new theme parks. And Nintendo has a brands unlike anyone else, I feel like even compared to a destiny, I feel like they have a lot more of a consistency with then of their counter universe. So to see what Nintendo would be like with that expansion, especially the cinema expansion is really exciting. So yeah, it's great. It's, I'm hoping for the best because you know, if we Have these movies and theme parks and all that good stuff. It just brings people back into the games and the more games and more players with sweatshirts and more players, more games getting made.

Mike Macdermid 54:10

Yeah. And I think it's, again, it's the whole thing about about, you know, moderation and if there's theme parks it's exactly the same as a Disney theme park in the you know that are that are certain things in there that are suitable for young kids and other things that won't be not exactly the same when the Mario theme parks here the movies is all the same stuff and so he has an absolute point and I just think that there's two ways you can look at it one he could be making a comment that Disney films and things aren't as as kind of innocent as they might look under the second comment is really making is we want to be as big as Disney essentially pretty

Al Struthers 54:43

much ethically Yeah, it's a very valid point I don't think anybody would disagree

Mike Macdermid 54:47

No, I think he's he said it's just whenever these things come up I sort of go Oh, no, here we go. There's gonna be there's gonna be all sorts of comments coming off the back of that but no, I think we're probably all agree in this case. All right, then let's move on to this week's remember

Anton Winters 55:01

Normally, so really

Mike Macdermid 55:03

just pick one big rumour that we want to talk about this week and I'm quite excited about the prospect of this. I don't know how you will feel about this because as we know recently, we got the insane trilogy, the Crash Bandicoot games came to this which they're still as flippin hard as they were back in the day. Crash Team Racing love Crash Team Racing. But that difficulty curve on anything other than easy and easy is too easy. And it's a lot to do with the fact that we're playing games from 20 years ago. And I love the characters love Crash Bandicoot love the memories of the nostalgia 10 million copies and the insane trilogy has sold. Basically, there is a rumour that there's a brand new Crash Bandicoot game in the works, Activision. I will be so happy if this was the case. Alastair, what about you?

Al Struthers 55:47

I want to be happy but I've never played a crash bandicoot and just got really annoyed at them because I'm just not very good at them. But there's so much love for the franchise that I think is kind of cool that they might be developing a new and there will be so many very happy People in the back of it

Mike Macdermid 56:00

on surely longside Oh yeah,

Anton Winters 56:02

definitely cuz Yeah, I felt that the insane trilogy was a fantastic value for money and a great tale. There are aspects of those old games where it's just like man this is kind of broken the labelled say small great here are the physics or there's little we can tweaks it's like yeah, this was great in 1996 I believe it was Yeah. Which I would love to see effects and then the fact that they're able to reflect on the the franchise so broadly and bring it to the modern age would be fantastic. And you know, the the Crash Bandicoot franchise was for many years, Sarah was like, ah, Activision. They're never going to anything with Crash Bandicoot they make college free they make destiny at all the fact that they they've just doing that we port is proven that a new Crash Bandicoot game can can access and happen. It's very exciting because there were aspects from those PS two games, which were that's modernise the franchise a little late they had Feel free to cameras and Calif some new calc gameplay elements. So yeah, modernising the franchise would be fantastic. And even if they ported those ps3 games Yeah, they're not the classics of that.

Mike Macdermid 57:10

I think one year I definitely be interested in those I think. Yeah,

Anton Winters 57:14

you know, and we it's we've had such a, we've had a 10 year drill of like hardly any platform or shirt and the 10 So,

Mike Macdermid 57:20

yeah, speaking of that, actually, a hat and time has been getting really good reviews and have watched a fair bit of that know of people playing that and it looks like a really good modern platformer. From a, you know, a developer that isn't the size of Activision. So I just wonder what Activision could achieve if they really put their mind to doing Crash Bandicoot for 20 2020

Unknown Speaker 57:41

Well, here's what we're gonna do well, because if you do badly, there's gonna be a huge backlash.

Mike Macdermid 57:45

Well, the thing is, as well, that if you think about what happened, time is probably the only really new kind of platformer that I can think of. There's the other one ukulele That's that's kind of

Al Struthers 58:01

romantic. No, no, it was just it was disappointing. I got a

Mike Macdermid 58:04

new one. The first one was with the new one. The second one's been getting good reviews as well, but it's slightly different again, it's got a lot of sort of 2d esque kind of stuff going on there and doesn't feel quite the same I hadn't time looks like a proper platform game you know, and and ukulele, I guess is in a lot of ways, but the new one is slightly different, but it's getting good reviews as well, but I would say that those two I don't really, I can't really think of any other ones. So I think I don't I'm happy if it's Crash Bandicoot even though crush panic is a 20 year old franchise 25 year old franchise it's Did you say there's going to go to do well, I guess. Yeah.

Anton Winters 58:37

And definitely, you know, as I suppose Well, we're definitely getting a spiral sequel. So Oh, which, you know, it would be curious that lately that back in the day, the Gameboy Advance Sarah, the dead a crossover game, a couple crossover games, which were absolutely awful, but they were hyped up and have so much hate paint them and they were just like, let me be boring. Many games so, you know, I would love to see them do something with the two franchises or even if we add them in Smash like they've, they've stood the test of time. And I would love to. So I'm so thankful that these haven't been lost to time and essentially

Mike Macdermid 59:16

crash and Spyro in space. That's my sequel. Sure. Meet me meet the Jetsons along the way.

Unknown Speaker 59:25

Welcome to Jetsons game. Jetsons I would totally be amazings game.

Mike Macdermid 59:30

Yeah, yeah. Anyway, I think we're just starting to get a little bit lost off topic off topic. So I reckon we should move on to this week's quiz. So yes, Anton, your quiz host extraordinary. Once again.

Anton Winters 59:46

Such flattery, well won't get your points. I try

Mike Macdermid 59:49

to try. The thing is we're getting to the end of season one. We only got a few more weeks left and then obviously, things will change. So we've got to make the most of anti minute quiz hosts because I suspect he'll probably resign or resided at the end of the year. So

Unknown Speaker 1:00:01

I guess to me, we might come up

Mike Macdermid 1:00:04

with some crazy yeah, yeah. So anyway Anton, we'll just get going so people don't know the format then goes into an old episode.

Anton Winters 1:00:11

Yeah, all of them and now that you've reminded me that leaving remains might be much evil or my next couple episodes.

Mike Macdermid 1:00:16

Oh, my God, the 10 minute version of the quiz where we just sit in silence trying to figure out what the game is. All right,

Anton Winters 1:00:23

Okay, good at this game spawn Cutlass equals warioware five. Nope. 10 of them on five and then a reboot on the switch. Mario Party. And DJ, you've got the point. Alistair, thank you.

Al Struthers 1:00:51

Anton Winters 1:00:53

Mike Macdermid 1:00:56

Al Struthers 1:01:17

Anton Winters 1:01:23

already, this game is part of two franchises. The first of which is a movie franchise, and the second of which is a movie franchise and the first of which is a toy franchise. Oh, transformers. Lego Lego Lego lego star wars. You have Alistar? Yes. Well, okay.
