Hello, and thank you for downloading Episode Number 49 of the Nintendo Switch UK podcast I might

Anton Winters  0:19

climb out. I'm Anton.

Mike Macdermid  0:21

Yeah, and we are back for another episode, the second one in 2020, the second one of season two as well. And there's been a lot happening in terms of our Patreon we've had people getting in touch people supporting us. We've had some new reviews in and it's really just been quite a lovely week, Alistair,

Unknown Speaker  0:37

it's been a fantastic start to 2020

Al Struthers  0:39

thank you so much to everybody who's who's been supporting us in one way or another, whether it is telling your friends, whether it's giving us reviews on iTunes, or indeed become a supporter on Patreon. We've had a few new patrons this week, in fact,

Mike Macdermid  0:50

yeah, it's kept us busy, Anton.

Anton Winters  0:52

Yeah, it's exciting. You know, the first one obviously was tonnes of fun. We had all the news to catch on but now that we're just getting back into the rhythm of it. It's fun. It's nice.

Mike Macdermid  1:02

It feels like we're really back into it. Now this week is last year last week felt a bit like, Hey, here's the start of a new seasons and New Year. Lots to tell you about now we're really back into it. And what I'm going to do before we start with this week's news, I'm going to read some of the new reviews we've had. And so we had two reviews on our apple podcast reviews are now up to 40 to five star ratings on Apple podcast, which is fantastic. And I know a lot of people don't use Apple podcast as their pod catcher. So that's really good because I think a few people might even go on there and specifically leave us a review on there. I think it's the only one that really gives you reviews are others. There's

Al Struthers  1:36

only one iPhone. I think we could do it on Spotify. I don't think we ever she found a way of doing it.

Mike Macdermid  1:41

Yeah. But we had a couple of new ones. So first of all, thank you to Scotty m who said the best Nintendo Switch podcast in that and then unfortunately, there's not enough characters to show the rest of the title. But I'm gonna I'm gonna say I'm gonna say universe that's why I'm gonna say like the review says I'm only aware of a handful of intend to switch podcasts and I've only come across two that I follow and listen to on each episode release and this is the best out of the two. If you're not convinced well you should be perhaps give it a listen for yourself. What's stopping you? I think that's a fantastic review. So thank you so much to Scotty M. Alastair, who,

Al Struthers  2:15

by the way is one of our new patrons. Really? Oh, yeah. So thanks. Good. And if I actually can I run through our other two patrons while we're on the road? Can we also thank source like gamer Whoo, yeah, I'm Darren reads, who's become our third patrons week.

Mike Macdermid  2:28

Whoo. And actually, we got a message from Dan, which I'm going to come on to in a minute as well, will always give you a mention. And we had this discussion earlier on about whether we should run through every name every single week of the patrons, our patrons, but I thought I think that the idea being that hopefully, we will, you know, grow that and maybe they'll get to a point where people get fed up of us say, whoo hoo, every single week to every single person. So for the moment, we'll mention the new ones, but now and then I might sort of just randomly throwing a thank you to everybody individually. Are you happy with that? I

Anton Winters  2:57

of course, you know, it said it's incredible that we are getting was supports itself seems crazy to me yeah exactly sorry this is just have some fun and then people are actually listening well universe is

Mike Macdermid  3:08

this I know absolutely when I was fantastic and it's really helping us to make plans for this year and beyond so our other review we got this week is feels like chatting to your and I think from memory it's friends I think I unfortunately I can't on my phone do get cut off don't it? Yeah, it's really weird. No, there's no sort of option to sort of open now. Anyway, the review says this is from pretty dot odd one, which I love that name. I think that's fantastic. So reading the review says I must admit, I'm a bit of a recluse so I'm choosy about my podcast stumbled, stumbled across these guys about six months ago, and this has become my favourite podcast. I look forward to hearing their opinions each week. They give excellent breakdowns and it's a great way to keep in touch with what's coming out without spending hours scrolling through the search shop friendly, funny and charming bunch of guys, genuinely feels like hanging out with your best mates. Thank you so much for all the entertainment you give. And I'll definitely be joining your Patreon soon. Thank you so much to pretty odd One I think that's a really nice review on

Anton Winters  4:02

our definitely. And obviously no pressure to join the Patreon but it's the support is greatly appreciated them. Yeah, we've been doing a couple of stuff over there and people seem to be enjoying it, which is quite fun. We had the last call, which seemed to went over quite well.

Mike Macdermid  4:16

Yeah, so the last call episode is the one that patrons will get every Wednesday ish. So during the weekend, we record it right after this podcast and it's us talking about random stuff. We will try and sort of give you a flavour at some point, maybe post a clip up somewhere so people know what they can expect if they sign up. And then of course, this weekend on and I'll be recording an episode where we look at the releases and again, that's for the patrons on the snares tier as well. So we'll be looking at the the upcoming releases for the next couple of weeks or so. And they've sort of delving into them a little bit further on.

Anton Winters  4:50

are definitely it's so exciting time 2020 I think it's the year of switch and the second 2017 it is are you going to say something else You looked like you were

Al Struthers  5:00

Just think I'm looking forward to listen to that too, because I'm not gonna be a part of it.

Mike Macdermid  5:02

Yeah, of course. Yeah, that's right. Yeah, you won't be involved in that. Well, occasionally we might invite you if we're very lucky. Next up, we have a message which we got actually from Darren reads who signed up as a Patreon so thank you so much, Danny says hi guys. Right so I just discovered your podcast today and was instantly taken with it. I love the chat you guys also really nice and genuine and the sound quality is better than a lot of other podcasts out there. I have a switch on pre order is the red box version two, which will be my second switch that I had to sell my original about a month ago, but all is good again. And I cannot wait until January the 25th when it's due to arrive. This podcast is perfect for immersing myself into fantastic Nintendo topics. While I'm at work, thank you for giving me the opportunity to show my gratitude for all your efforts by way of a small donation here is to Super 2020 I have to say, we really appreciate that show of gratitude from Darren Alastair.

Al Struthers  5:51

We really do particularly as you've just phoned us Darren, that is a huge

Mike Macdermid  5:54

huge sign of confidence. Absolutely, but it's a it's a sign of confidence that we're going to keep actually, you know, producing the goods because, you know, if he's just discovered us, then, you know, there's a lot more to come this year. And there's also some previous episodes that he'll be able to check out, particularly if there's one of the titles that catches his eye

Al Struthers  6:16

indeed, worlds and making a first good impression. Can I can I cover a piece of listener mail?

Mike Macdermid  6:21

What have you got

Al Struthers  6:22

weary this week? Oh, yeah, we got queries got query this week. Yeah. And the query was relating to the DLC on Pokemon sword and shield last week, and the question came through asking if you have sold on your copy of Pokemon sword and shield, can you still play the DLC? Okay. We have scoured the internet. We scoured the internet deeply can't find the answer, but the three of us are all very much the pinion that the answer will be no

Mike Macdermid  6:46

yeah, that was my thoughts on that one. Yeah. What's your take on it? I think

Anton Winters  6:49

looking at Nintendo's previous track collect records, FX not marketed as standalone Catholics Super Luigi you. You will need the original game at play it which is a real shame because usually with a lot of games, they're like, we will be doing DLC eventually. At this one. Pokemon they don't traditionally do DLC, so it really sucks if your soda or it, but sadly, you need to try and hunt on a cheap copy before that DLC drops.

Mike Macdermid  7:18

Yeah, well, I would, I would have thought that it's unlikely that Nintendo are gonna sort of give you as an extra anyway. So yes, I think you'll have to go and get that copy. One thing I wanted to mention as well, before we get started, we mentioned last week that Helen Sheridan was our winner on the Tetris 99 giveaway, competition. And just as we suspected might happen, Helen. Helen is actually based in the United States. So fantastic that we have somebody in the US winning that competition, but we didn't see on Twitter, it was worldwide. We made that decision just because, well, somebody asked us and we said Yeah, why not? Let's do worldwide. So welcome to hell and we'll we might well do another competition at some point later in the year as well. I'm going to run through afterwards. All The places you can get us but we're not gonna do that now because I think it's time that we move on. And first of all, before we start with this week's news, let's talk about what we've been playing this week. Anton, what have you been playing? Or I fail

Anton Winters  8:11

I've been playing more roguelikes but I finally finished it this week of Camp blaze for the last final bosses I think else rank our level hundred and 83 so I've played a little bit too much of that game and gave the new game plus game I'm more at the new new game plus option ago, and it's been quite fun but also that haven't played too much. But what is quite funny and as I mentioned on the previous podcast, I fixed my joy con drift family. Yeah, amazing. Which is great because I got joy con drift later game and the week and then fix the game. So I've been slowly reading up on it and it's, it's fun to the Caliph. Obviously, it's like a big drama and everybody talks about it as I count, like for a term for a couple different issues there and it's helping interesting company, diagnose and then kind of come up with cheeky Western Aleutians to get round that who I feel some last call topics coming on here. Yeah, we chatted about this. Yeah,

Mike Macdermid  9:05

definitely. Yeah, that could be something that we could find out more about the inner workings of joy cons

Al Struthers  9:10

keep I'm interested in that.

Mike Macdermid  9:12

Yeah, I'm interested for it. If we do in the last quarter we keep it to two minutes. Because that's about my limit.

Al Struthers  9:18

Alistair, what have you been playing this? I'm gonna give I think the same answer I did last week. And I've been playing a bit more golf story getting towards the end. No, no pro pro Pro. And I spent a lot of time playing as we just mentioned three

Mike Macdermid  9:30

we need to get to sport story that's waiting to finish it says but one of the reasons

Al Struthers  9:33

why I remember to pick it back up again.

Mike Macdermid  9:35

When are you in Luigi mansion? Kind of haven't played since we last spoke.

Al Struthers  9:38

I'm on the I've just finished eighth floor. Got finally got the ninth button again.

Anton Winters  9:46

Yeah, okay. Okay.

Mike Macdermid  9:47

Yeah, he's he's got really sort of stumbly fingers Disney, Luigi. Definitely. Anyone that's played don't know what we're talking about. I'm on floater. 11. But I haven't played in a week so.

Al Struthers  9:58

So what have you been playing then Mike?

Mike Macdermid  10:00

Well, I've been playing a bit more Valhalla so I've been a cyberpunk bartender a little bit to be honest anybody that's on our one of our patrons who has me on the switch will know I haven't really been played an awful lot this week but I've been playing Rocket League I've kind of fallen into that kind of late night You know, I want to play something but I'm quite tired I'll have a couple of games of Rocket League and then ended up playing double them at Rocket League and would have had another game and I'm sure you're the same when you pick up their arms on

Anton Winters  10:26

Yeah, completely with roguelikes as soon as I finished it, I'm like that's me done fairy our SATs enough I've completed the main campaign. I don't need to do the new game plus, and then I've caught minutes where I'm like, you know, I could kill like eight minutes. I don't like play something new and have to get into it and then I pick it up. I'm like, why am I doing this to myself? So many games that he played.

Mike Macdermid  10:44

I tell you what I did pick up this week though, in the seal is super blood hockey, which was

Unknown Speaker  10:47

no yeah.

Mike Macdermid  10:49

four pounds or something. Yeah. Which that's all I paid for it. Yeah. You got it unsealed. Super blood hockey is great, really excited to play that and there was something else that picked up a really cheap as well and Shakedown Hawaii because I completed retro rampage which is like a top down GTA style game in a bit this is kind of imagine it was 16 bit Shakedown Hawaii much more advanced. A lot of people think it's it's a much more developed verta retro rampage retro rampage I think was one of the first games I completed on the switch. So Shakedown Hawaii is in the sale right now gets pretty well reviewed and pick that up and I have to say, if you are looking for a game I would recommend on the sale couple of games gone man Clive is down to about a pound 79 and it's a little platformer very well made I paid about the same for it definitely worth that money. And the other one to check out in the sales west of loathing, a Western RPG, but all stick figures there's some TLC Kumbaya not not play the DLC but I've completed completed the main game and it's one of my favourite RPGs that I've played on the on the switch by far actually is really really good and

Al Struthers  11:54

we've raved about this on the show many times and I still not bought

Mike Macdermid  11:57

four pounds, something at the moment on the sale. So been recommended.

Anton Winters  12:00

Talking about games we always rave about being on sale you can currently pick up Astro bear party for about 91 p do it which we go on about all the time. I think we gave it the better with friends award during our award ceremony thing. And it's 99 P is you could buy like three cups of coffee for like that's that's how cheap it is.

Mike Macdermid  12:21

Yeah and exactly where you could buy a third of a cup of coffee I think these days and Starbucks Absolutely. I think the the interesting thing about that game is that the upgrade a lot of people maybe missed it but Astro beers itself came out and that was a great little multiplayer game. That is fairly simple, just a few different modes. And then the upgraded it with Party, which is a much more fully fledged title with many more sort of courses and planets and things you can play and it's really cool. So yeah, for that price. There's three games under a tenner. And you're getting three really really good titles there. So recommend them all your top tips, right let's move on then. To this week's news. So first off, then Deep Silver have announced Metro Redux. It's coming out on the 28th of February. It includes both Metro 2033 and metro last light for 44 pounds. And on not a huge surprise that this has been announced. Fine. Yeah,

Anton Winters  13:20

I find it funny. We had actually a couple of no other pieces of rumours during the week being like, yep, it's coming out. I'm, like, even included, we know it's coming. And then we got the announcement, I think on Friday. And I know it's a lot to ask for some older games. But I personally think these games look absolutely stunning. Their critically acclaimed play at two pounds for a top notch first person shooter and switch. Yeah, I could see this being a clear purchase for a lot of people.

Mike Macdermid  13:47

Yeah. I mean, the very popular games as it is, it's great that we're getting this on the switch, I think and you know, for me, if we always talk about quality, if it's quality, and it comes across Well, it's ported well. It's a good addition

Al Struthers  14:00

Completely agree. It's a game that I think could look quite good on switch. I can imagine playing on the go Yeah, there's a lot of shooters out there that you think would work in small screen thing this one would

Anton Winters  14:09

Yeah, well that is coming out on the 28th of February either either of you going to be diving into that? Oh, it's that there's force force for months of the year are very busy, but I think this would be a title if I saw even for fairy pounds I would be on board with them being seventh generation titles and even though they push the limits of those consoles gives me the impression that they're fairly well optimised to begin with so I think seeing these on the switch should run fairly smoothly. And I'm excited to give it a go because I missed on these titles. I never picked them up when they came out. Sadly,

Mike Macdermid  14:42

yeah, yeah, me too. Actually. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on that. Next up turtle blaze have announced their new game tonight. It's coming out on the sixth of February. It's about k you and AI and it's a ninja boss rush game with an interesting art style. I would say the art style. I think it's quite gorgeous Alistar I really like the art style.

Al Struthers  15:00

Spiritual reminds me better game that was made on the original Nintendo Gameboy. Yes it does. colouring but with a hint of more

Mike Macdermid  15:07

it also reminds me there's a couple of titles on the switch already cheaper titles like awesome p i think it is which has a kind of vibe of it. Yeah

Anton Winters  15:16

Do you know what I'm talking about antigen like I recall that awesome game yeah this this game looks like when I saw like another boss rush super hard game I was like uh, but going in there looks fairly gorgeous and I think the gameplay for a boss rush sale game doesn't look too a Caliph pushing you outside your limit so recently accessible for the genre as

Mike Macdermid  15:40

it's one of the first of that kind of sort of ninja boss rush game that I've looked at on the switch and gone Yeah, I could probably get into that. It's it's a little bit more as you say, but a little bit more accessible looking. really kind of cool pixel lights are still there. I know we've got a lot of but I definitely think this is one to check out. If you are a fan of The genre then definitely check this out. And even if you're not, I would say just take a look at it have a look at the gameplay at next up another really interesting title that has got me interested because I love the premise of this. outright games have announced Giganotosaurus it's the game, which is coming out on the 27th or jugaad Saurus the game that actually called it, in case we didn't it was a game because it's literally a game.

Al Struthers  16:20

It's a game of a book, which tells many teams Oh,

Mike Macdermid  16:23

that's where the game

Unknown Speaker  16:24

element comes in. Many many times.

Mike Macdermid  16:28

Yes, of course here. It's just I'll give you the rest of the description. This makes complete sense as to what Alice there's the expert. So it's a 3d platformer about a preschooler dinosaur going on adventures features racing, and four player Co Op one for the kids Alistair but also one that might be quite good. If it's one that your son is aware of. It might be quite a good game for you and him. Wow, that's exactly

Al Struthers  16:50

what I thought when I saw the announcement. I thought this is one that I'm going to add to my to purchase list because actually, oh, I've been trying to get him playing games recently was called Lego Jurassic World but that thinking that might be a good way he likes to dance always likes Lego but he got really frustrated because he couldn't make the character go left, right forward and back. Okay, that was eluding him. So he's four and a half can blame him for that. But jack understands the game I'm thinking this might be a win we can yes yeah,

Mike Macdermid  17:14

and the thing is, is the kind of titles well he might be happy even if he is struggling a bit at the start to cardiac exactly so he'll be aware of it until What do you think of this is an interesting remains?

Anton Winters  17:25

Yeah, this reminds me of say remember when we had the Ice Age came on maybe about three months back? Yeah, just like when I saw a calf looked like a generic time game but the quality real time games these days at what are be this are the Jumanji game that came out. We're just got such saturation of surprisingly well done titles like even looking back to you but like, remember the Fast and Furious showdown game and you just look at it are like yeah, that's awful. I know. That's a time awful game. But this is like there's some fairly convincing stuff about it. Like if you pitched it with its own art sound as or universal more like gets benches Kazooie successor. Yeah, I would be like, okay, I could get behind that it's fairly impressed overall I would say

Mike Macdermid  18:09

yeah, no, I would agree. I think it certainly looks really strong Alastair.

Al Struthers  18:13

And can I just point out that I know it's not a Red Dead Redemption or anything but it's coming out simultaneous release on the switch on the ps4. Excellent.

Mike Macdermid  18:17

So thank you. Yes, that's great. That's fantastic. 27th of March is that deep by the way. Next up, excuse me, hype train digital have announced the black book. Now this is coming out in 2020. It's an ambitious and gorgeous new card based RPG. Now these do have quite a specialist kind of audience and others a big audience for card based games RPG elements in this as well. Anton, what's your thoughts on this?

Anton Winters  18:43

Yeah, I found that interesting. In the trailer, they show the more Kef cinematic and inspirational elements of I think they didn't show off the card base part of it. And so I can't really comment on that aspect of the gameplay. I think that's part of the combat system, but the actual exploration elements of it seem fairly beautiful and Calif and as a sector in that not ambitious almost

Mike Macdermid  19:07

yeah I mean looking at the trailer the the actual visuals you wouldn't know if it didn't have card element in there you would have absolutely no idea that that was part of it now that could be a great thing in terms of bringing in a new audience or it could be a big mistake if they've gone about this and people expect one thing and then it's something totally different. So I'm in two minds about whether that's the right approach depending on how much of the game is RPG and how much is card based. But it does look really really good and interestingly as well in the blurb they've said it's arriving on a Nintendo Switch and other platforms later this year so that's you know, Nintendo Switch is definitely their core what they're looking at I think, what's your thoughts? I'll started watching it.

Anton Winters  19:47

I'm

Al Struthers  19:48

curious did nicly word from Anton actually visually it looks a bit like Firewatch but scary and slightly Nordic I wish that he would come on sale

Mike Macdermid  19:59

Firewatch to come Forever want it? Yeah you the same Antonia you've been waiting yes

Anton Winters  20:05

yes one the older let's players are playing and then it came to switch and has just never popped up like I've had it favourite teams and just been waiting for that email coming in but

Mike Macdermid  20:15

it was on the US sale at one point but not

Al Struthers  20:17

come with us one day yeah this this this does look interesting

Mike Macdermid  20:21

does look interesting we'll keep an eye on that 120 20 we don't have a date yet. Next up kenshin impacts have announced that its previously ps4 exclusive. This is interesting is coming to switch in 2020 get kenshin Empire is this after

Anton Winters  20:37

cold assists. What's that game that was pitched us on? Everybody account went out and played tree? Yeah it was the breath the wild close. Yes. And they've shown off some more gameplay and that say even more Breath of the Wild day. Unlike that magician calc cuphead clone the or least a lot more self aware that is a clone and that it was a self aware But I think that crazy that it's managed to get to the scale of scale of production.

Mike Macdermid  21:05

Yeah, well, it's incredible. I mean, it looks fantastic. And I think the switch is perfect, but it's because we've, we've had the game already in the form of breath as well. And the interesting thing about this is what I was reading and I don't know if you can clarify this on but I thought this was going to be Japan only to start with.

Anton Winters  21:23

I'm not too sure off the top of my head. I know it was ps4 exclusive for the longest time. Yeah. Yeah, I'm not too sure about the Japanese aspect of Okay, we'll

Mike Macdermid  21:34

find out if it's going to just Japan or if it's coming to the west as well, I'm sure, you know, for count figured out at the moment will certainly know soon enough, but interesting, you know, looking at the visuals, and a so strikingly similar. I think this is going to really split Nintendo players though on tone because a lot of people are going to be slightly annoyed at the similarities and then other people are going to go well, what the heck, it's it's another great adventure that we can go on.

Anton Winters  22:00

Yeah I'm going to be curious to see which console this performance based on because it could either sell really well on ps4 for people who's missed missed out on breath the wild or sell really well on switch for people who love breath a while to write and want more

Al Struthers  22:14

you are looking out there also says says coming soon yeah yeah absolutely I think I'm in the latter camp I liked I liked both worlds so much that I want to go and get this game because it looks good played bit more Breath of the Wild before Breath of the Wild to appears and yeah

Mike Macdermid  22:28

no I think it looks looks really interesting but the reviews I guess will be on the switch will be interesting. I don't know how it was reviewed on ps4 but it looks pretty stunning. I have to say great job that even if they have stolen all the elements from Zelda but nevermind. Next up Konami have announced Solomon programme. It's a tile based monster fighting game. That's an old combination. unten

Anton Winters  22:51

Yeah, and that's very much similar to blackbook. You account you hear about and you're like, Okay, that sounds like a bit MDH and small now Looks like they've put the film money in the field guns behind that couch reminds me of your k watch and the setup of the just came out the gate and tried to make a new, a new pokeyman a new big franchise. This one looks like it's got a lot of faith behind it from Konami. Yeah, they haven't officially like well they have announced that because it got leaked a bunch but they haven't really shown it off too much so this is one that I think we're going to be hearing about another six months from now. We'll start hear more details about

Mike Macdermid  23:32

yeah it's not a bizarre one it is bizarre it's not one look at the visual the very bright very vibrant they're quite you know, I guess I guess Japanese to be honest but the looking at them they're not something that it's not a game I would instantly be drawn to it's a bit wacky for me looking you know, looking at it on first Luke but having said that, you know, we'll see where it is. See what it is when it gets released. What's your thoughts Alastair?

Al Struthers  23:57

bright and confusing mine

Mike Macdermid  24:02

Yeah, even the concept tile beast monster fighting gaming

Al Struthers  24:06

particularly new ideas

Mike Macdermid  24:07

no but it's it's still I don't know I'm not 100% sure

Al Struthers  24:11

go look at some pictures of an internet because pretty much all you can play solo or solo

Mike Macdermid  24:14

Solomon programme is what it's called Colin programme. Yeah that game company of a night sky children of light it's coming to the

Al Struthers  24:21

mic which game company

Anton Winters  24:23

that's game company

Unknown Speaker  24:24

What a weird amazing

Mike Macdermid  24:27

it's like that old thing old joke about whenever someone mentions the who'd who who are Doctor Who? Doctor Who? Yeah, that game company which game company anyway I journey ask expedience and sky children of light Anton.

Anton Winters  24:42

Yeah, that's how I'm always fascinated. Never do that. Anything more with the journey franchise was a real pioneer in the indie space. And this one looks a portal, very similar elements. And the developer I believe has mentioned it to have a clear social element and what I think's alluded to the account journey you meet up with random player and you have to kind of communicate with them and not via voice or text chat or anything like that complete objectives in this vast expansive landscape. Yeah it look I never played journey and I don't understand it to the the best to the best accent but i'd know there was a lot of people who really go and transpile that tail

Mike Macdermid  25:27

Yeah, I mean, the game company are the scene behind journey so we know that they're used to doing fairly good quality releases in terms of what they did with journey so you got quite high hopes that this will be a solid one for the switch. What's your take on it so far? Allister

Al Struthers  25:47

visually looks beautiful again, but it's no big surprise. A lot of games in Norway these days are visually beautiful. And what I'm trying to find out as well. There's gonna be released at the same time on all different platforms. And I think me already I think reading what Reading will have read. I think the switch is going to come last.

Mike Macdermid  26:04

is this so? We're just looking at this is a sequel to trial of light. Is that? Is that how this works? I'm just looking here. No, I think

Anton Winters  26:11

I think Child of Light. Yes, children of light. It's just a subtitle to this. All right, that's okay. That front title.

Mike Macdermid  26:17

Okay. Yeah, it's confusing because we don't know an awful lot about it. So we're kind of trying to scramble about it to try and find to piece together what we do have. But I have to say I agree with agree with Alster that it looks great. It's it's very atmospheric. It's got a bit of that. What's that game? Right. And what's it called again? The one right, yes, right. Right. That's the one. It's got a bit of an element of that in terms of the sort of art style and yeah, it looks. It looks interesting. We shall keep an eye on that and I'm sure we'll hear much more about it as we get close to the release. Next up, we got pics it on they've confirmed hay fever is coming out on the last quarter of 2020 I mean, hay fever is coming for us all in the first quarter of 2020.

Al Struthers  27:04

Yeah, so it was more than us. Yeah.

Mike Macdermid  27:05

I was talking about I know that I yeah, absolutely. I mean, you will both be suffering at some point but will we be will we be suffering from playing hay fever and turn our will we be rejoicing? That is the question.

Anton Winters  27:16

I'm not too sure. This one looks at a little bit generic and dsq from atop my head, there was a while I think it was announced at the beginning of the week, so it's a little bit loose in my memory, but it doesn't look like anything old to special sadly. It seemed wacky and fun. And but I don't think it's your go to Title I think this Sure. Maybe a couple poems and an Aesop silk sort of tale. You know what I mean?

Mike Macdermid  27:40

Yeah, it's a platformer. It's, I like the intro kind of animation that they have and they're kind of cutscene it looks it you know what, I think it does look fairly solid as a platformer. My thoughts on it are that, you know, obviously having not played it yet, but looking at the way the character moves. You know, it looks quite silly. Solid it looks like it's quite weighty. That's good with platforms. That's always the thing is how accurate can you get, you know, with with the movement, but I have to say it looks all right.

Al Struthers  28:09

I just like the premise of this. Yeah, post it goes out hay fever, sneezes, Masters knees and loses all 240 of his letters that you couldn't go and collect.

Mike Macdermid  28:17

That's a great idea. I have to say, well, we'll keep an eye on it. Certainly, I don't think it's going to be a rival for the big titles of the year. But

Al Struthers  28:25

a couple of little award awards. I don't really know what they are. But there's a game pitch winner and the big indie pitch winner so

Mike Macdermid  28:30

our game pitch winner, the only company based in the Arctic.

Unknown Speaker  28:35

To me

Mike Macdermid  28:37

that that's great. And to be honest, I actually quite like the art style of it. If a little basic as you said Anton it's a bit indie ish, but we will see next up Doom one and two have had massive updates and so much so a lot of people have been talking about this and saying you really really need to go and get playing these I have do one and two and three and the new one and it's including new lighting 60 frames per second. mods and tonnes of new features and on how big an update are we talking here?

Anton Winters  29:04

Yeah, that's it. This looks like a border lane reissue a redo of everything. And I love this stuff sounds simple like the 60 frames per second but the original game was hard coded to 35 frames per second so stuff like animations all that were tied to it, the lines all new and you can go in and customise and settings. But the big thing here is to add on maltz at Doom, as we all know being that it was at one point freeware has a huge selection of mods. And what's this new one, you're going to be getting their sexual, which is the unofficial sequel to dumped to Doom two by the original creator of doom, plus ultimate Jim. But what's cool about this as Professor made a promise that they're going to be collecting some of the world famous like some of the base mode set more these campaigns have ever been done, and then given them to users and future so there will be tonnes more content here. Yeah, brilliant. Even with those Two free months you're getting on day one. That's two new games called Sarah Phil size games. Yeah, size mods.

Mike Macdermid  30:08

It's amazing really an unfair play to Bethesda for doing this because those are two titles that are fairly cheap on the store you get a lot of bang for your buck, which I think Anton sometimes says and that is definitely something that these games give you out there. I think it's really great that we're seeing this

Al Struthers  30:24

it is it's just nice that they're coming back and being brought to a whole new audience and with a whole of extra content to them.

Mike Macdermid  30:29

Yeah, fantastic. Well, I'll be going and downloading the update probably Well, I haven't done it yet. So I'm assuming it's available now on time

Anton Winters  30:36

as indeed and that's got it's just got so many little things like you know, play and the rational four by three aspect ratio. And the list goes on and on.

Al Struthers  30:47

Former for the new ones are called the the vertical oriented Samsung TV that was announced at CES. I didn't see that Oh, man. Vertical TV, then you press a button that shows your your Android phone up your Android phone up the right Or here Samsung phone screen will turn terrible terrible idea. All right,

Unknown Speaker  31:03

okay, okay. Well

Mike Macdermid  31:06

if it does that then that would be a heck of an upgrade update from the from Bethesda probably not super smash brothers ultimate fighters pass at fifth fighter is bilat from Fire Emblem and people are a little bit annoyed by this I'd say you wouldn't be annoyed about this that would be James because he loves Fire Emblem but I think I'm a guessing people are annoyed because it's not a big deal compared to other characters until Yeah,

Anton Winters  31:28

I think Scott a couple key complaints one being that it's a very new character less than a year old. And two it's another sword character. Yet the kind of tried to work around that. And free at shus again kathlyn Nellore anime s character that's not with the most mainstream appeal. Okay, watching it live and seeing Twitter's reaction. A lot of people are very disappointed especially with it being the final characters that they have unveiled.

Al Struthers  32:01

Yeah, and I wonder if it's more of a big deal in Japan that would be my Fire Emblem i think is probably a bigger deal in Japan than it is elsewhere and it would explain why the characters probably in Smash and we're not as excited about it

Mike Macdermid  32:14

well they also I noticed a whole bunch of other stuff so you're also getting for astral chain characters and a lot of people have a lot of love for astral chain but again, not the newest then maybe not the most sort of classic of franchises are also me fighter Mega Man X Altai air from Assassin's Creed I'm in for that rather you see me scan these are all skins have any character in Have you seen me? No, no, you're getting get me showing those and I'll run through the rest. Then we'll talk about them. You also get a new cuphead music track available for 75 cents each, or Pat soon, pensively similar coming to the 28th of February and also the ultimate fighters passive Volume Two you'll be getting 60 characters and if you buy the pack, you get ancient soldier, me costume as well. So there's a whole bunch of stuff in there. Interest I've seen the cup head that's quite cool and so nice to be fair there's a few decent sort of items in there

Anton Winters  33:08

yeah definitely people are very happy about that new me costumes I find it funny people were more excited for cup heads than actual Bailiff coming and watch out that's that's the one to get because includes a free music track but definitely an era of disappointment sadly but at least we're getting the fair pass for you too. And I get the impression that sakra has been listening to the feedback close and the direct they're very explicit and Calif acknowledged and being like, yeah, this might not be for everyone, but please be happy anyway. The thing that woke me up a little was and the actual trailers are like the jewel couple at being another sword character, but they don't really address it at all. Yeah, you know, but nonetheless, I

Unknown Speaker  33:58

will I'll tie years ago sword as well.

Al Struthers  34:00

Yeah, I just want to dress myself up as saltire. That's that's my

Mike Macdermid  34:04

guess yeah contrast with yours. He is still my favourite of Assassin's Creed characters, but it's probably just because he's the classic

Al Struthers  34:12

Yeah, I also want to dress myself up as Megaman Mega Man be cool to cuphead unless interesting being a

Mike Macdermid  34:17

bit more difficult Alright, let's move on then to some more news because we still got to get through limited run games have announced the physical release of streets of reach for quite interested to see. I mean limited run are good and I have to see depending on the pricing the problem with limited run games is quite hard to get your hands on a copy unless you're very quick, Anton.

Anton Winters  34:38

Yeah, the thing that always makes me sad is that they're obviously st base so it's a little bit I guess a little bit pricey when you start important. Yeah, I'm always looking out for the super rare because they're, I believe they're Bristol base, so they're a little bit easier for posting. But nonetheless, this Catholic saying this case was usually when Wesley's physical releases there are notes a couple months After or even a year later when it's something out digitally and the people who love it have already bought it and then have to buy it again where in this case if it looks like all you're interested in you can just buy it physically you don't have to buy it twice

Mike Macdermid  35:12

yeah that's good that's great I'm because that's the thing I guess is that you know you see a game that you're really into and it's you've already bought it because you didn't think you're going to get physical and then brilliant when limited run or superior do these runs but this is an extra bonus Alistair if you want to Streets of Rage fun because you can buy it first right physically

Al Struthers  35:31

yeah I just saw I find it really weird about it was wasn't released as a physical in the first place socially the first three we're seeing you there produced by Sega Yeah, so your games and often a physical and this one being I think was dot m you rooftop Hollywood the ballpark might be in publishing for this one. Because the fact that it wasn't a physical game. It just confuses my brain.

Mike Macdermid  35:49

Yeah, I guess maybe just demand you know, and limited run can jump on that because there will be enough demand that they'll sell it, I'm sure very quickly, but yeah, it's coming anyway. So limited run games have announced officially Release of Streets of Rage for next up Doom a Terra Nova more Doom us gets a fantastic new trailer yet the switch release is delayed however they are offering Doom 64 as a pre order bonus, that's kind of cool. I just spotted that I was reading that solia went 64

Anton Winters  36:21

Yeah, like when it comes to pre order bonuses gang an entire new game and said the way to do it. Yeah, I think this is fantastic. And I feel like that as a preorder bonus would be enough to get me on board day one I don't know about yourself. sighs

Mike Macdermid  36:36

great. I mean, literally, if you want to if you're a Doom fan, the switch is where it's at. Now, who would have thought a few years ago, you would have said if you love Doom by a Nintendo. I mean that that's such a funny funny thing that you know, we live in 2020. And that's if that's the case. I'm going to know we had and I have it actually the Super Nintendo version of doom the original Doom so

Unknown Speaker  36:55

yeah, yeah, the red car and

Mike Macdermid  36:57

the red. Yeah, I've got that. I love it. It's, it's not the best port I've ever seen of that game. I have, but it runs just but, you know, this is a really big bonus and great way to sort of say, look, we're working on Doom, but get it out on the switch. Here's something you're going to love In the meantime,

Al Struthers  37:17

and I wonder what you're going to charge for as a standalone game for Doom? 64. I mean, see how much your bonus it actually is.

Mike Macdermid  37:23

749 like they did with Doom three. Personally,

Al Struthers  37:26

I'm already thinking other than to rock. We've not got any other end 64 ports on the switch.

Unknown Speaker  37:34

Yeah,

Anton Winters  37:35

I think your credits are starting I think it's literally just a short games. We really haven't changed wise for this one. I think they're going to put it right in the middle of two free into one and two. So maybe like a five or possibly, yeah,

Mike Macdermid  37:48

I would say so. I think between five and seven points. I don't think it'll be as cheap as wanting to.

Al Struthers  37:52

But you know, if you want to play a classic retro game going get the early dooms because so so cheap for you. Getting it so really to be fair it is a nice little bonus if you can know if we're gonna wait for Doom eternal Doom 64 and wasn't March thing is committed? Yeah

Mike Macdermid  38:08

yeah we can we can live with it I'll probably be buying it anyway well either way whatever happens you know. Next up Nintendo releases a music video and advert I saw this pie galantis featuring Charlie xx and show Super Nintendo World The video shows glimpse of some of the parts of the park as well as a new app where you can collect coins while you're going around the park and the connected power up band as well. So this is a bit like Disney have their Disney found their magic bands they're there that you have when you go to Disney World is a bit like that. I have to say this is combining on my two favourite things in the world Nintendo and theme parks I I'm totally sold on this.

Anton Winters  38:46

Yeah, you know, as somebody who didn't grow up on Disney, I've never had that like oh, I need go to a theme park. But this is the first thing that's got me like really hate to go Kev I cool. I remember they didn't show off in the trailer but I am What the patents issued I'll hold the poor up band could connect a switch for some formal clinics have a nice that they've got the coins and end the video I think the short all bets are like Super Mario Kart and cap a bet where your account running through a castle looks like tonnes of fun. Yeah, site.

Mike Macdermid  39:20

Well I didn't grow up in theme parks and then at the age of 27 and a half, I went to my first major theme park in Orlando. And I've become an absolute addict ever since I think I've been to Orlando three times now and I've been to Euro Disney a couple of times as well. And if I could afford to go every year, I just absolutely love it. So for me this plus the fact that it's Nintendo and all those characters and I'm just I'm just absolutely thrilled and the fact that I write music in Japan means I can try and combine writing trip and a trip to Super Nintendo World. I think you need a new pa and you might be a tall, thin bearded gentleman. Well I'll

Unknown Speaker  40:00

certainly yeah

Mike Macdermid  40:01

yeah I tell you what is just an incredible thing and yeah I haven't I haven't actually listen to the song but it's a very Charlie accent sex thing to do she definitely gets herself involved in a lot of these kind of kind of things. So yeah, great and really excited about that.

Al Struthers  40:16

A lot of us obligatory if you go to marry or Superman tend to worldly have to wear a Mario hat because everybody music video seems you're wearing a marionette

Mike Macdermid  40:23

All I want to do is go to the park and do the Luigi thing in but he doesn't lose much and he goes Maddie

Unknown Speaker  40:33

please never do that again.

Anton Winters  40:35

See, half the journey would just be spent and the merch merch store and like the seeing what they've got and all the limited edition stuff.

Mike Macdermid  40:44

Still need a half to win the lottery before your but anyway I'm very excited about that and number will save up to go and I think it's coming to Orlando in the future as well. So are certainly to America so we will get one a little closer to home is not really but it's you know more accessible Sega ages have confirmed The Sonic two ports will include at the Sonic and Knuckles lock on compatibility note Sega ages do a pretty good job of these Sega ports that the standalone ones rather than the collections that you know that you've got their collection that you can get the secret question but Sonic two ports yeah it's going to be interesting to find an audience for this I suspect Anton because obviously site to classic game one of the first games I ever completed the Sonic and Knuckles lock on compatibilities really cool they are quite good quality those Sega ages poor so I suspect if you are a fan I mean I know you are so will you be buying this you know what

Anton Winters  41:35

if it was just a straight up port maybe not left the Sonic and Knuckles lock on what switch if you're not familiar back in the for the release a game called Sonic and Knuckles which was its own standalone game but you could plug in at Sonic free to get the feel Sonic free complete experience which was like a double long campaign at bigger than any other Megadrive games. So when you poked in Sonic two you could play with knuckles and Sonic two yeah We haven't actually had an emulated version of this game or a non native Megadrive version of this game where it had that functionality. So that is cool. But I think the big thing here would be if they did a sonic three and Knuckles port Following this, yeah, yes, that's a game. We haven't had port eight since calc pre Michael Jackson stay, because up until that point, he didn't want anything to do with Sonic free. After his death account, whoever's managing their funds, cap decided, yeah, we're going to make sure that we're getting royalties from that game. Yeah, since then, we've never had a port of Sonic three and Knuckles or even even then it was separate. So if they're able to combine the two and maybe charge a little bit more, we could have a really fan favourite tale, getting its first port and yours. Yeah, being combined to something new as well.

Al Struthers  42:53

So forgive me here because I never played most Sonic games. I know he wants me to. Once I go to Michael Jackson. He does music and Sonic three seriously Yeah, I did not know that. Yeah.

Anton Winters  43:04

Yeah, he was quite fun a few

Mike Macdermid  43:08

Well, no, but you can hear the influence in the song when you hear the music I mean Sonic two and Sonic one for me. I know every song every level because I played them so much growing up, but Sonic three I never owned. But yes, the music in there you could definitely hear the influence Anton.

Anton Winters  43:23

Yeah, and there's even some Michael Jackson songs that have I think some Sonic samples in it so but yeah, that's that's the dream there because I know some people who sell swear by that Sonic three and Knuckles like the complete edition is better than Sonic Mania. So I think having it on a modern console were complete with my eight but door when Perry controller. I can give a true test but this is killing the meantime, I may actually pick this up.

Mike Macdermid  43:47

Yeah, absolutely. By the way, if you can hear sirens in the background, nothing to worry about. It's just that I live in the centre of a city and I've got the window open because isn't his kids have been here. So you may well here though

Al Struthers  43:56

we did here. We did look at each other when we mentioned that. Yeah,

Mike Macdermid  43:59

I'll just mention You probably can't but just in case it picks it up right next up the first episode of Pokemon Twilight wings is I've know for free on the Pokemon YouTube channel if you're Pokemon fan, then you can get this I have to say it looks fairly well put together as you would expect. I quite like the art style. I've got to see I actually quite like the art style this one but maybe that's because I've been playing some, you know, stains gate and some anime type stuff recently. I'll start What do you think?

Al Struthers  44:25

Yeah, it looks quite nice as short as well. It's only about six minutes. Oh, good to dip into it so far. I've flicked through a few bits and come across one Pokemon.

Mike Macdermid  44:33

All right. Well, it's maybe setting the scene Anton.

Anton Winters  44:37

Yeah, it looks a lot more human than a lot of the other Pokemon series. It looks a little bit more grounded. But yeah, of course I'm careful. I don't understand that the money behind that but they crammed a lot of out like it looks very good for just direct to YouTube series. So it's kind of remarkable.

Al Struthers  44:54

It's had a lot of views in a few days. I wonder what that says whether it says a lot about YouTube or a little bit Pokemon or both. See, I'd say definitely Pokemon, but definitely YouTube is just accessible, isn't it? We haven't got a YouTube app on the switch yet. Just the fact that YouTube won't let

Mike Macdermid  45:09

you do the YouTube app.

Al Struthers  45:11

Yeah, yeah. I use all the time I've never used I didn't know existed really no didn't know existed. But then To be fair, I don't watch much YouTube.

Mike Macdermid  45:18

Yes, Netflix made me really happy they got on Netflix. But I know you got Hulu and America on the switch. And we have the YouTube app which is useful for certain things. So yeah, you can blow my mind is free. It doesn't cost you anything. So God bless

Al Struthers  45:31

YouTube. I know.

Mike Macdermid  45:33

Just in case you weren't aware of it. Yes. You do have the YouTube app on the

Al Struthers  45:36

Holy Ghost. You can watch Pokemon cartoons on you should

Mike Macdermid  45:38

watch that on the switch on your laptop or your TV or whatever. Yeah, exactly. Right. Next up, we have the neon wall. We're getting a free level VR update. So if you are a level VR owner, then this is free. They did a few of these on.

Anton Winters  45:54

Yeah, I think let's just say one likes the SEC first game that's called an E level view. Update. And what's just quite fun. And again, I'm just hoping we get more and more playable VR stuff and maybe get a standalone VR headset at, because I don't give this stuff a goal but the cardboard is the thing is putting me off. So yeah, it's good to see people who have invested are getting more and more value.

Mike Macdermid  46:20

Yeah, it's cool. I mean, it's not a huge investment obviously it's not you're not expecting the same experience that you get with the likes of oculus or even PlayStation four but yeah, it's something that could be a bit of throwaway fun I guess. astir

Al Struthers  46:33

good way of describing it and throw a fun to be honest, I don't think I'll be buying it.

Mike Macdermid  46:36

No, I'm not in a rush because I have that obviously. As you know, our friend definitely we'd rather see often get lucky. Yeah, and I would definitely do you know if that if you get a knock because I know you do have an Oculus Anton and I know that there is you know, for some there's a lot of appeal in the beginning and then it sort of Wayne's a little bit but I yeah, I'd certainly be keen to find out if we can get some more labo vr because it's always good. And next up the Alienware UFO gets the Ces 2020 best ensure award what would the given the award for here on

Anton Winters  47:04

yes so this is basically the best product at the whole of CES CES if you're not familiar as basically the E free but for the entire electronics industry right excluding video games but carefully they unveiled this product as we make to if people are interested which I think after seeing that the industry Calif response to it at fan response I think we're definitely getting a solid switch compared to turn the horizon because I don't Alienware would let this anticipation golf course. It looks like a fairly well rounded and finished product. Yeah, I mean, it looks even as a concept.

Mike Macdermid  47:43

It looks quite similar to a switch, I have to say, but it's definitely I'm not. I'm surprised we haven't had a competitor that has been strong. Yeah, I know. We've had hints of some, but really we haven't had anything that's directly competed. Now see, this is interesting. I've listened to a few podcasts where they've been discussing the UFO this week. And there are a few points raised. And I think probably the most pertinent point is the fact that this is probably either a product, it's a bit late or a bit early. So what's the big difference here? Well, so the dude, I don't know much

Al Struthers  48:16

about, it does exactly what the switch does before PC games. And the problem is, that's exactly where the problem lies. So the switch does really well because it's a pick it up, turn it on, you pick up exactly where you left off. You stick in the car, did you change the game? it's straightforward and simple. PC gaming is not supposed to be that PC gaming is supposed to be everything optimised to the highest possible running rate, you buy it to three grand gaming rig. It's also supposed to be high end. Yeah. And it's a bit more complicated. People can tweak and nuance and do all the stuff they want to do. So that whole ecosystem is generally moving probably towards cloud based gaming. As a general rule, it's not I know, that might upset some people, but as a general is probably going to go to cloud servers and get streamed. The switch is deliberately not gone that route because of its gone for pickup and play doesn't need connectivity. This is likely to need connectivity all the time. Therefore, why would you buy this when you could run your game on tablet? Yeah, yeah, too early or too late, depending aciem.

Mike Macdermid  49:07

Yeah. I mean, given what you said there, it may not develop as a direct competitor, but interesting that it has won that award on time because it shows that a lot of people believe that it can do the things that you know, we're sceptical of

Anton Winters  49:22

Yeah, I think when it comes to account finding an audience for it, this is going to be very much going towards the same people who would go and spend money on a gaming laptop maybe Yeah, people who are maybe wanting to play like a round of colour, try car round a portal or something on the goal and maybe get some of those titles but it's gonna be very curious. I think if it was a couple years earlier, as you say, Alice, or when we had the steam OS with at Valve, that would make a lot more sense than having basically a machine running Windows and an eight inch format turret but yeah, I'm just delighted to see somebody else coming into space and Doing some new stuff. There's a lot of things on this device where I'm like, oh, that would be lovely and switch like a s methodology for the kickstand I think. Yeah.

Al Struthers  50:09

I'm just cooling looks it does but on the switch it looks like I'm cool a lot faster. I'm guessing it's probably running a lot hotter given the folks running high end PC games.

Anton Winters  50:16

Yeah, yeah, I remember See, I saw an interview and it was saying somebody being like, oh, why Why? Why haven't you put a dedicated GPU on the shelf? Alienware, guys, were basically just like, yeah, how hot Do you want this console to run? Yeah, well,

Al Struthers  50:30

the crazy thing is it's the same size as your average. Maybe I'm average top end graphics card. Yeah, it's cool. I don't know. I think it's a cool product. I just don't think I think I'm happy with my switch.

Mike Macdermid  50:39

Yeah, it's not one that you're going to go on. There have been the switch now and go for that instead.

Anton Winters  50:43

Not definitely not All

Mike Macdermid  50:45

right. Next up then engine software, the porting team behind ninokuni which I have no and I haven't had a chance to properly play although I did watch the opening and it is fantastic on switch. Believe the switch won't see any less third party ports due to the arrival of the next gen console. So obviously going to be getting next gen consoles very soon for Microsoft and Sony. But they don't think that that's going to make a huge difference. And I think we discussed this last week briefly, Alastair when we said that the switch sits in a different place in the gaming world to those consoles.

Al Struthers  51:15

Yeah, yeah. I mean, third party developers are really now going to get behind the switch. We're seeing a lot of their games I suspect will might see a few more switch specific games, potentially the market is clearly there. I just think they will probably not be able to run next gen games anywhere close to no host well on this one. Yes. That's fine phones keep bring us third party games. I don't mind.

Anton Winters  51:36

Yeah. Yeah, count reading between the lines of his interview, I kind of got the impression that what he's scalf getting on about is that they're the man's like that the increased audience of new switch users. And the increasing challenge of porting colourant Jane titles to the hardware will kind of bounce each other out and we won't see any less ports and we're getting the know it won't be Like a case of two years from now, all the pores so cup or try out we're just going to be getting the same amount. Yeah, even though it's harder.

Mike Macdermid  52:08

Well speaking of ports, we're going to move on now to this week's

Unknown Speaker  52:12

rumours.

Unknown Speaker  52:16

So

Mike Macdermid  52:16

port so did mention that we're going to go with the Taiwanese rating boards have found new switch game ratings for Bioshock remastered Bioshock two remastered Bioshock Infinite remastered and Bioshock the collection suggesting they're going to switch both individually and as a collection I am so so excited about this because I played the first Bioshock and didn't finish it but really enjoyed it I also played infinite later on actually on PS no is that the streaming one on App

Anton Winters  52:46

yeah PlayStation no yesterday mixer Yeah,

Mike Macdermid  52:48

so I play I had a trial that and I thought I'll try infinite never played that. And it's so wacky. I mean under the first two or walk he was walking a totally different way. And I really enjoyed it but didn't play exceptionally a trial. So I played a bit It I would 100% be behind some Bioshock goodness on the switch gentlemen, what about you? Oh yeah, definitely.

Anton Winters  53:08

I think a lot of people forget because this wasn't a franchise that got tonnes of sequels because the company behind their 48 deliberately they deliberately closed down which was interesting in a whole different conversation but these were 10 obtains Game of the Year titles year after year, I think Bioshock two had a little bit of low and performance because it kept that Bioshock one a game but nevertheless f there my whole I see this would be we get all of the games individually on the shop and then we get the physical collection, the collection as a physical release. And going back to what I said about Metro Redux once you even if it was a 44 pound title debate that down free games fairly high quality triple A games for 44 pounds great title hard to say no. And threes three titles as you said on that were reviewed saw well when they came out. I mean, there were really really big games. I know for you Alster Possible a little scary

Al Struthers  54:01

possibly a little scary when there's a lot of love for those games I've just I've seen little bits of them on Kobe and the coach so unlike playing these ones but they do look cool

Mike Macdermid  54:10

it's more atmospheric it's not like Doom scary it's very different it's it's a different kind of game but you know really really happy if they came to the switch we'll keep an eye on those next up French retailer coke to da have leaked a port of Saints Row. So for I cannot recollect it's coming out on the 27th of March.

Anton Winters  54:28

I

Mike Macdermid  54:30

have been playing scenes through the third a little bit I've started off that I've done a

Al Struthers  54:35

couple hours and you sent me a little video of you laughing a year old song playing in the background of

Mike Macdermid  54:42

the very first thing I had to do was put on the song where I sing just because you know narcissism.

Anton Winters  54:49

Yeah, and that the good thing to back up this rumour as a layer and the week before us official culture also leaked Metro Redux. So I not coming from the far they clearly have their social sources and also we've had central free so I think this one's i given or any of us familiar with the fourth game at all?

Mike Macdermid  55:08

Yes. And I believe is quite different from what I remember it they went there in a slightly different route. Am I right? Or was that it was that

Anton Winters  55:16

this was like health counselling calcentral free they start adding in some wacky elements. Yeah, central force one where they went full over to hell. I know for some people they went a little bit too far and alienated the central one and two all hands a lot. But I think that's just what became synonymous with the central franchise is very dickless I believe aliens are invading air. Jordan, the President, and it's an open world Grand Theft Auto game where you run a gang?

Al Struthers  55:45

Yeah, pretty much nothing. That's in a nutshell. Yeah. My understanding of it. I haven't played it. I played three. Yeah,

Mike Macdermid  55:50

well, I'm well, I'm happy for that to come out. Because again, another title that people have a lot of love for, as you see not everyone because people who maybe grew up with the one and two might not be so keen but Yeah, great if they bring those then fantastic. We are thinking it's probably quite a

Anton Winters  56:04

reputable leak as well. Next up the Pitman three websites been taken down people are suspicious. I would suggest they're suspicious Anton because they've taken the Pittman three website down because something is brewing. Definitely I think with this rumour well this news falling on the heels of us athletes Emily Rodgers, suggesting that we have two more we you porce and the Can I think we're definitely getting on our peckmon game and the future with ours being this peckmon for that's apparently been finished for over six years, or a pigment free HD remaster. And I think there's definitely something going on the tables.

Mike Macdermid  56:45

I mean, it's been it's been coming for a while, to be perfectly honest. I am shocked that we haven't had a pigman a new Pokemon game on the switch

Unknown Speaker  56:53

yet. Or, well, anything really.

Al Struthers  56:56

If it is a big game then I think you called that a funny feeling. Last year, you said I said port. Yeah. Can we pick one? Yeah,

Mike Macdermid  57:03

but I think we'll make a new one as well. But I think a port is likely as well. And you know, maybe that's where they're going. First. I don't know. We'll see. But it's not a huge surprise if something does happen. Ubisoft Milan, the team behind Mario and rabbids they're hiding many full time staff to work on a prestigious triple A title. The thing about modern robits was that it was one of these ones that everybody looked and went on know what are they doing that for? And then it came out and it's many people's favourite game on the switch Anton.

Anton Winters  57:32

Yeah, that was fun. I never really expect to get and then I think I bought it when I was brand new for for 20 pounds, which doesn't sound like the greatest deal. No, but surprisingly, really great game for somebody snuck into that spot. What What do you think? Do you think they're going to do a sequel tomorrow? rabbets. Do you think they're going to another collaboration? Or do you think it's just they're working on their own tail? And well, yeah,

Mike Macdermid  57:53

I my thoughts are if they're seeing triple A, I think there's already an existing name or franchise there that they're working on. So I suspect triple A maybe something related to an already existing character is very hard to call a game Tripoli.

Al Struthers  58:08

Yeah something new will live dip their toe in the water with a few IPS. He also did Mario rabbids kingdom battle we've done a bit with Donkey Kong in the past and they also or the studio responsible for quite long Assassin's Creed. Alright, us off malanda Didem so they did Black Flag they did. So once I wrote read rwg that did liberation, which you like, but unfortunately also do the Justin series.

Anton Winters  58:31

Just say Well,

Mike Macdermid  58:33

yeah, I mean, it could be just dance liberation.

Al Struthers  58:38

That would be interesting. Oh, you're just done.

Mike Macdermid  58:43

Okay, well, we'll keep an eye on it. I think that could be a big a big announcement. Yo, we're gonna have some big announcements soon because surely surely surely.

Unknown Speaker  58:52

Your new games come on. Surely we're getting a direct

Mike Macdermid  58:54

anytime soon. It's gonna happen on

Anton Winters  59:00

predicted this week? Yeah, I'm still not 100% like disputing it won't happen this week but I'm getting scared that we're going to be waiting till February. I'm trying to think. What's that January we had last year was February last year we had that

Mike Macdermid  59:13

trends. I think there was no January wasn't it?

Al Struthers  59:18

Either way, I was like a year ago.

Mike Macdermid  59:20

It was early in the year for by can remember last week. Very true, but I think we'll be getting more very soon. I would not be surprised. Next up on the rumours. This week. We have an uncle one. They've registered a trademark for Mr. driller drill and considering the recently remastered Katamari damacy then the wondering if it might be something similar I Mr. drillers and also I don't know I never played it on time so I don't really know much about Mr. driller but I know it's quite popular.

Anton Winters  59:47

Yes handle a bit more Richards camp, take Toki sell your account burn down you have to have the right kind of colours of terrain and a cap clears out almost like poo period sale. Oh yeah, and You can't just have to keep moving as quickly as possible gets harder the further you go down at drill land was the 2002 version off the top my head okay that came out and then tandel GameCube off say similar to cat married Massey same age. So West s Calif what concerning health for Calafat trains we've been seeing more stuff like that Super Monkey Ball yeah people are wondering if we're getting a remake close that was fairly well refutes that the troll land version of it. Yeah. And it came out

Mike Macdermid  1:00:31

yeah, it's it is funny how the switch is becoming such a great place for retro games you know, it's like and titles that we forget about I mean, we talked about strangers strangers wrath, is that the oddworld one? No, yes. Yeah, and and things like that, that you know, people would instantly go Oh, I really wish they'd pour that over. When we hear about the port coming people are like, Oh, yeah, of course, and Mr. drillers a name that I know but I've never played a title. I don't remember playing that on the GameCube. The drill one one box Again, I think bring on you know, this is kind of where the switch is sitting these days Alistar

Al Struthers  1:01:05

it is we're getting a huge library of very weird, wonky wonderful games in the past but we're just going to make my quiz game and end up so ring nificantly harder because people keep dredging up weird wacky games in the past

Anton Winters  1:01:15

Yes. Yeah. Hopefully be more forget. Yeah, absolutely. My my fury SSA. Obviously, this is a little bit safe set. There's obviously a lot these big ports. Let's take Super Monkey Ball are coming to the Xbox and the PlayStation four. Yeah. And with those two new consoles committed to saying with the next the same architecture for several generations, unlike how to start fresh and loosen the backwards compatibility. I theorised that days are seeing more value and pouring and all of their games to at least one of the x86 architecture console soul and cause it's not going to be tucked away in five years time. And we don't work out getting old that cycle. If you want a game you have to pour it every five years. Yeah, well If you pour, let's say, at Mr drill, Mr drill or drill and to one of the account new consoles, that game is going to be easily just texting and revenue for the next, like, say 15 years as we're Kalfa shifting towards a consistent architecture future generations. Yeah. And I think just as part of that was the switch or gang some of those titles as well, as well as a longer commitment to life camp life span

Mike Macdermid  1:02:25

is just so great as well. Because, you know, from the purely portable element of it, that these are titles that I get, I mean, I can still see me playing a switch even when the switch has long gone in terms of the you know, the cycle of gaming, because it's just such a clever way of playing, you know, because you can do the two of them. And it's, you know, you can do it on a Telly and you can do portably. So, I think it's just is really, really clever. And I think it's great that we're getting these these random titles,

Al Struthers  1:02:50

what I find interesting and if they're coming to all the consoles, I've not heard any word of it and going to Google stadia or to Apple games.

Mike Macdermid  1:02:57

Studio seems to have an issue with the pricing games and that seems to be the big problem for them. It's a cool concept it

Al Struthers  1:03:04

is a cool concept we came into the gate swinging and going wouldn't kill the console on so far. They don't seem to be making much headway in that. I mean, I don't know anyone that plays Google. See, I know a few people have tried the demo gunner doesn't work. No, give it up.

Mike Macdermid  1:03:15

Yeah, we've seen

Anton Winters  1:03:17

stadia definitely seems to be missing misunderstanding it because it's currently up you want it to play it at like 4k and all that counts selfie of the stadia elite thing which is the only way you can play it. That's 9 million in a month and you don't even get games in that that isn't like a game pass. You still have to purchase your titles. I think the battles we're not going to see any true moving forward until we get the x box x cloud coming along and PlayStation know how that evolves into that battle. But yeah, yeah, it's definitely so the console is alive and well.

Mike Macdermid  1:03:54

Very much. So next up savvy or save, save, say buy or buy or Sebby hood pronounced sabi I think, I think so I'll go with my original one they've leaked their liquor who previously leaked most of Nintendo's eetzi 29 teen lineup. They've come up with two new leaks so in 2020 according to them we will be getting a new back to form Paper Mario game. That would be cool. And a 2d Metroid game related to Metroid Prime fusion let's take them one at a time Paper Mario that again I wouldn't be hugely surprised that that maybe could you team up with would you be soft smell and team get involved in that in any way? I guess I mean, they got involved with Mario and rabbids So could it be that they team up on that? Could that be what they're referring to Anton?

Anton Winters  1:04:42

Yeah, you know, the kingdom battle debts Calvin corporate, a lot of them Mario RPG storytelling. And with Nintendo being far more open to open source and I could see that's a very true idea. Like I hadn't fault that. That's Yeah, that would make sense. Yeah,

Al Struthers  1:04:58

apparently the last one was done by Intelligent Systems I've known if they're still in the world,

Mike Macdermid  1:05:02

well a triple A title. It's Mario is one that is familiar with the character. So you know, you never know. I mean, I'm just making a rumour up here to be fair.

Al Struthers  1:05:11

Did you ever play the original paper money?

Mike Macdermid  1:05:13

I haven't by the games I really want to play it cuz I remember the switch is my first Nintendo as my main. For years.

Al Struthers  1:05:19

I think I've played them in the past, but I don't really remember playing just a bit. little voice in the back of my head. This guy you had one of them.

Mike Macdermid  1:05:26

It's a kind of game. I would definitely play though. I mean, I think 3d did wasn't one of the 3ds because I didn't have a 3d as there.

Anton Winters  1:05:32

There was one on the 3ds and it's among the two characters critically despise titles. Yeah,

Mike Macdermid  1:05:40

I think I vaguely remember that. Because I remember when I got my 3ds, which I had alongside a PlayStation four. I looked at it and looked at the reviews and thought, No, I'll wait. But yeah, I've never really delved in but it's one that I definitely would be keen on.

Anton Winters  1:05:56

Yeah. I'm going to throw an extra careful leaf on top the pale. I'm going to put Oh, I think this is going to be a remake of frozen gear door. Okay? Because I know ever since that first title, every time they release a new one they're like it's not as good as fill some holes into your door. And that game is one of the rarest GameCube games so it's not very accessible at Never mind being what many people consider to be the highlight of the franchise. So that's my fury. We're going to put that on our bingo cards during each.

Mike Macdermid  1:06:28

Yeah, absolutely what we should maybe do a 23 comes out if we can get time we'll do an E three prediction bingo card style round. I think that could be quite fun,

Al Struthers  1:06:37

good plan Intelligent Systems very much long ago. They were behind fire on them.

Mike Macdermid  1:06:41

Really? Well, maybe not so much the software although wiki could be to them who knows? Right. That is it for this week's news and rumours so much to go through. We've actually gone over the hour again, but that's all right, who cares? Let's move on to this week's quiz.

Anton Winters  1:07:00

How exciting. Oh, I'm feeling tense. We were one one Effy coat the test run.

Mike Macdermid  1:07:07

Oh, I see we're coming to the test run. No. It isn't there yet. No, I only mess and I'm happy with that. One Yeah, so good. And who is it to go first this week?

Al Struthers  1:07:20

Well, gentlemen, give you a summary of that in case anyone hasn't heard before. So if you listen last couple weeks ago, new quiz each week I challenge my fellow gamers to find the real game from a list of three games 200 fake one is real. There's been some been some very weird and wacky games made over the years. So let's see if you guys can figure out which game is the real one. Are you giving us titles? Are you giving and giving a very brief description description with the console was on right? And you got to figure out whether that's real, or real one real like the three that's right until went first last week. So Mike, you will be going first this week. Okay. Are you both ready? I am. All right. Game one, Playstation two. And this game you played a mosquito terrorising a family and sucking their blood or try they are trying to swat you dead. game number one. game number two, you might see a bit of a theme here, Playstation two. And this game you place a leech lurking in Poland trying to suck as much blood from passing animals as you can without being squashed or leaving the water. game number three, Playstation two, your vampire bat. And each mission you have to sneak into a variety of shelters to suck the blood of good targets while we sleep. Don't wake them up. Okay,

Mike Macdermid  1:08:27

now I think I know this one. And

Al Struthers  1:08:33

why why do you know this one? Because you need to be very careful what you say you don't

know the answer if he doesn't already know what

Mike Macdermid  1:08:44

I said. I think I know this one. I didn't say I didn't know this one.

Al Struthers  1:08:47

Give us your give us your thoughts.

Mike Macdermid  1:08:49

Well, I see if I give you my thoughts and it goes on a clue. I'm come to come back to my thoughts. I'm going to go with mosquito

Al Struthers  1:09:00

Mike has made a very definite decision here.

Anton Winters  1:09:03

I was going to go with mosquito as well because I feel like I've seen gameplay of a game where these are like tall anime women, and you like get SWAT leads with them. I feel like I've seen gameplay often like a weird Japanese. These are games that you missed that never go over to the UK.

Mike Macdermid  1:09:19

So are you gonna stick? Are you gonna stick with it and go the same as me? I am Yeah, sorry. No, that's fine. I think I actually don't even know if it was Japanese. I think this has been subsequently ported to something maybe the 360 and I am pretty sure that in this game, you fly around as a mosquito trying to trying to sort of do your damage to people who are doing things like eating ice cream and having picnics and things I think

Al Struthers  1:09:49

all right. Okay, well, you guys are both pretty confident. So we'll start at the end and work back

Unknown Speaker  1:09:53

because they were confident it might be a dream. We could both be wrong

Al Struthers  1:09:57

easily. You could both be wrong. You could will both Okay, so vampire bat. That's Batman, right? Yes, it is. No, that was entirely fictitious like, Oh, I mean that one up after the first two. I thought I'm gonna keep going with this blood. Yeah, like it. I should do one play a game where you play as a vampire bat sneaking to people's houses and sucking their blood

Mike Macdermid  1:10:15

bad Batman.

Al Struthers  1:10:16

Yeah, I know vampire bats don't suck blood. But that's the whole other small. So that one was a fake. Which brings us to just the leech or the mosquito. Which like a drumroll. Yeah, you're both totally right. Mr. Mosquito is a real game.

Anton Winters  1:10:33

Yeah, classic that we've all played them familiar. Oh.

Al Struthers  1:10:37

Both seen gameplay footage of it

Mike Macdermid  1:10:39

more recently, and I think it's because I support.

Unknown Speaker  1:10:41

No, no, no, not like you're playing like,

Mike Macdermid  1:10:43

why have I seen this recently?

Al Struthers  1:10:45

I have no idea like, no, not clue. It was Yeah. 2001. And I assumed it was played before Angeles time because he would have been for it or someone that you've come across it. Yeah, people are upset. But yeah, it's just terrifying and weirdly sexualized. Oh, really? Yeah, you blaze this mosquito train is basically terrorists, Japanese family. There's a mom, a dad on the young girl. Okay. And the bit I saw you're flying in the girl's bedroom trying to sucker blood. But in order to do it, you had to film music in the stereo, which is weird. The pornographic music. Okay, turn the lights out flying in certain bits of but it was weird. It was a weird game. So

Anton Winters  1:11:19

it's like a visual novel.

Mike Macdermid  1:11:22

With biting, biting.

Al Struthers  1:11:24

Yeah, I had the weirdest animations. So you had this really, really wooden walking style, the characters walk around like no, there's a stick random part of their anatomy, but then had animations for those who are claiming to bed which were amazingly well done. It literally was a model moving independent, it was very, very clever. But the walking was weird. And the feet were three times of average person's foot.

Mike Macdermid  1:11:42

I'll tell you the other reason that I thought it was that one and not the others was that I was thinking the ps3 era and I'm saying which one of those would be the easiest to actually create on us on a console. And I think the bad idea is great, but I think that'll be a later system because I think that's quite complex or if you're really eight bit system or I don't

Al Struthers  1:12:00

think that PhD on the ps1 to be honest.

Mike Macdermid  1:12:02

I'm not sure well the second the second one with the leech again I thought that's quite difficult because it's it's a different perspective.

Al Struthers  1:12:08

You have notice on some of these games I've got lined up that Leach makes perfect. Okay.

Mike Macdermid  1:12:16

For the mosquito i thought you know, you can really kind of you could go anywhere with that because they can fly so you know, you can Yeah, that was my theory on it. But yeah, a

Al Struthers  1:12:24

weird game Google and Mr. Mosquito is called weird.

Mike Macdermid  1:12:27

I have a feeling I'm thinking of another game. Possibly the bumblebee one. You know the mobile Bumblebee when he can play it. No, I think it's a bumblebee wanting to switch. Can you just check that for me Alastair? Because now I think I'm Bumblebee video game switch. I'm going to put that into Google Now. I think that's what I was thinking of when I said I don't think it's anime so it's maybe a miss memory but I don't character got it. Right. Anyway,

Al Struthers  1:12:49

there's there's Bumblebee the movie that came out recently. transformer one.

Unknown Speaker  1:12:53

Well, Bumblebee simulator. Yeah. When he saw

Al Struthers  1:12:56

the switch, ps4, Xbox switch and PC there's a bumblebee suddenly Oh wow,

Unknown Speaker  1:13:00

yeah, who thought I'm gonna watch this?

Mike Macdermid  1:13:03

So there Yeah, so the RNA is on the switch. So you got it. You got the music there. Oh, you do. Oh brilliant.

Anton Winters  1:13:11

I love it. I love it come

Al Struthers  1:13:15

that's that's a good looking game.

Mike Macdermid  1:13:16

Yeah, it looks reasonable. I think that's what I was thinking of when when I was talking about Mr. Mosquito. So yeah, either way and I don't care

Al Struthers  1:13:24
